There aren't any "special" shotgun shells in this game. You can't permanently hurt the T-103 but any weapon is capable of putting him in a time out. Its just a matter of how much you have to dump into him to buy about 30 seconds of freedom. Obviously the handgun requires more ammo than the magnum. Beyond that he's invincible until the battle on the lift in his mutated form. . . Well technically he's still invincible then too if the game doesn't drop the rocket launcher for some reason but I digress.
the one moment that absolutely caught me off guard when i played this was when i entered the western office where the spade key door is and mr x spawned there. keep in mind that i was walking around to not attract his attention when this happened.
