Between the long drought and summer and fast winter I haven't been finding many mushrooms in the Pacific Northwest. I have to say I am a little jealous of your bounty but love your channel. Thanks Luke!
I found the mushroom season seemed to come and go really early this year. Last couple years i have found porcini a couple weeks into November, this year I found one. The rain we are getting now though is setting up for a good hedgehog/black trumpet season in the winter
Hello Luke, I am really enjoying your collection of videos. One of reasons I enjoy gathering fungi, is the quiet of the forest. The statement you made,"I believe there are more mushrooms hiding under the leaves"....If you really wanted to gather in large quantities, I imagine a batter powered leaf blower would significantly increase the amount you could harvest....Just mentioning if you wanted to retire from your regular job and harvest commercially. That being said, it would take away the "quiet", and also alert others to your favorite spots.
Yes, you are right with the blower, but the point with the "quiet" is right too and that's one of reasons why I would not use it. Also I guess it's not a very lightweight device so I would be able to walk much shorter distance than usual :) Anyway, the idea is interesting :))
So few leaves, so much moss, I'm jealous of your finds. All i want to find is a good bunch of chenterelles, they are the best dewormers when eaten raw.
I'm searching for hours on end this year for just a few golden Chantrelles, here in the Pacific North West.. I'm jealous for sure. Enjoy those beautiful delicacies. Thank you for the great video
Those are some amazing finds, luke! Here in Ontario canada, black trumpets and regular chanterelles are done, and most of the winter chanterelles are done as well. Mostly finding wood blewits, Enoki, winter oysters. Great video! I'm jealous!
@@LukesMushrooms indeed they have a perfumed scent that smells like they should be tasty. I'll be interested to hear what you think when you find some. Thanks for the video 👍
@@HazzM they are absolutely delicious! They are much more popular in parts of Europe, where they can sell in markets and high-end restaurants, here in Canada they aren't as popular, but that is because we don't have the same foraging and wild food culture yet. They are fantastic sliced thinly and sauteed in butter until well done. That is how I like them anyways.
Im from the Philippines & new to your channel,so informative though we dont have those kind of mushrooms here..hope to see your face in your up coming vlogs..
Brilliant thank you, what's the weather been like as its rarely been below 7 deg here but lots of rain during the day it can be 15 I just don't think it's cool enough here in Ireland yet.
@@LukesMushrooms thanks I think we've a little more to go, it's like they're stalling, there's leaves coming off the trees now but not much everything isn't just as it normally is at this time of year.
if I'm there to look for mushrooms maybe all the mushrooms will be stepped on, because the leaves that fall are the same color as mushrooms. In Indonesia now is the rainy season and it's time for mushrooms to grow... Thank you for the video
That is amazing, a lot of mushrooms in November :) I am going myself in the woods tomorrow in look for some mushrooms because it was finally raining in Serbia this few days. Always ejoying your videos, keep it up! 🎉
So jealous of all the black trumpets you found!!! I really hope I can get a good bounty this year, went through my entire 10oz jar of powder by August this year, gonna need lots more to last me through next year
Hello Luke, thanks for the video, nice catch! In Italiano we call them "Trombette dei morti" (Trumpets of the deads) not "trombette della morte" (Trumpets of death), but close enough 🙂
I came back the other day from some spruce plantation with ~ 5 kg of funnel chanterelles, ate a lot, dried a lot and pickeled a lot, will go again on saturday if the weather will permit. I am in lowlands of Czech Republic, do you know where to search for black trumpets? I see you are in beech forest as well, I suppose on a bit higher elevation, or? I remember seeing them in Croatia in the mountains, but that was a long time ago.
This is just my 1st year of finding black trumpets, but I already managed to find them in 3 different forests in Slovakia and Czechia. It was in oak and beech forests and elevation varied from about 200 or 300 to 800 meters.
Thank you. I think I have not tips, I find them usually in colder weather in coniferous forests, but in this case it was a mixed forest with many beeches and oaks too.
Hi Luke i really enjoy your videos as a learning experience. I am relatively new to mushroom picking and quite risk averse. At 19:05 you chose not to pick some yellow colloured mushrooms because you weren't sure ---- what were the factors that influenced your decision?
Hi. I'm glad you enjoy the videos. It wasn't so well visible in the video but those mushrooms were actually bright orange, quite different from the regular color of golden chanterelles. So I wasn't sure what species exactly it was. And when you are not sure, you should not pick mushrooms for eating.

I'm glad you like the channel. About the bounty, last autumn was very dry with very few mushrooms. This year is compensating it a bit :)

Interesting, normally I would not recommend to eat any mushrooms raw. But perhaps you know what you are doing :)
Another cracking video. Thanks Luke
Thanks 👍
You are so lucky to find so many chanterelles
Yeah I had good luck
Awesome find in those trumpets! Already got snow where I am at.
My best find of trumpets so far :)
Yellowfoot is sooo good. Your woods look so peaceful to hunt in.
Yes it was very relaxing in this forest, not many people :)

Thank you. I hope I'll also catch some wood blewit, oysters and enoki wave :)
Do you eat the Wood Blewits? Many sources report them as a good edible but those I've found and tested really weren't worthwhile.
I haven't tried them yet but I would like to. They smell great.

I miss your vids, it’s been awhile, this is my simple entertainment while working online, doing dual tasking.
I'm glad it entertains during doing other stuff :)
Beautiful assortment of chanterelles, especially so late in the year!

Great finds!!!!👍

The Trumpets are called Horns Of Plenty in The Uk, so true in your woods. Dinner for Days.
Yes. There must have been much much more of them, just well hidden.
I really like your accent the way you spoken the English worlds
Thanks :)
Really wonderful
Glad you think so!
Wow! There are plenty mushrooms in your place. Are those black trumpets mushrooms edible, Sir?
Yes, black trumpets are edible.
Great video 😊
Thanks! 😊
may i ask, luke?
wondering wether d sauce of black trumpet cooking, would be also black like d color of d mushroom?
Good question. Maybe depends how many of them you would use in the sauce and what else you put there. I haven't tried to make a sauce from them yet :)

Fantastic displays
Glad you like them
What a haul. How do you preserve them?
I usually dehydrate them and store in a glass jar.
Kantarrel is my favourite when I visit my sister in Sweden we use to pick some soo yummy
Interesting round here chants are rarely found in clusters like that 🤔

Thanks for the correction :)
Great finds again Luke! How do you cook/serve/dry/preserve all those mushrooms?
Thank you. In 90% I dehydrate the mushrooms and store in a jar. Most of the jars end up between mushroom lovers in my family or friends :)
