Thank you for this Information! I am getting this surgery in January or February. I will be 34 years old , and now I’m regretting not getting this surgery years ago! I look forward to my new life. I weigh 281 pounds at 5’5, and my body is just tired at such a young age. Thank you 🙏🏼 doctor 👨⚕️🥰
I had a hard time waking up, can't remember to much about my first day. And my blood pressure went very low. So they kept me a second night. I went home on the third day. Felt great after that. No pain.
Dr. Weiner, I had my gastric bypass yesterday, small incisions were made but Surgeon decided to abort the operation due to thick visceral fats. I obeyed his instructions and lost 3 kilograms in 15 days. Initial weight was 136 kg Asian male and 5'4''
@@apoundofcure he mentioned about my small intestines with adhesion, fatty liver and thick abdominal wall that his 6 inches trocar cannot reach my tummy pouch. Anyway thank you Dr. Weiner

Everyone was talking to me then I was out. I woke up when my daughters and granddaughters came to see me and were arguing about who was there first, lol. I was on pain meds up to my day going home. I would like to thank you, Dr. Weiner for all the You Tube Sessions that you have created. I really did not have much to guide me after the Gastric Sleeve Surgery and your individual You Tube Sessions helped answer questions that I wanted answered. I am post op since November 5, 2015 and am at a plateau. I started out at 207 and now weigh 189 pounds. I seem to be holding this weight for almost three weeks. Is this normal? I do admit that I eat a sweet snack now and then at night time. I have been eating the prescribed foods and exercise. I am also a diabetic and 61 years old. Thank you, Judy Boris (Chicago).
+Judy Boris Judy, since you started out at a lower weight, you will lose weight more slowly then someone who starts out 100lbs more. You have lost 18 pounds in two months - this is within the range of normal weight loss after surgery for someone your size. Plateaus are common, be patient. Also, if you lost weight before surgery, often time this slows down weight loss after surgery.
+Dr. Matthew Weiner, thank you so much for your response. I am still holding at 187, but it appears that my waistline is getting smaller. I do have more energy and recently enrolled in an aquatics class and I am looking forward to seeing some weight loss results. I still have a positive attitude and receiving support from you is very complimentary. Thank you for being so considerate for all of the information that you provide to bariatric patients.
Curious about being given the Toradol. I was told by my Bariatric group that NSAID meds were to be stopped 2weeks prior to surgery and also never after surgery.
Wow I wish you was doing my surgery. You have explained everything perfectly thank you so much. I’m have my surgery in 6 weeks. I’m in Australia I’m paying cash for mine
I think the sleeve has come a long way even since this video. My surgery was on 8-26-19 and my surgeon doesn’t believe in catheters. By the end of the first day they just made sure I was able to urinate on my own, which I was. Also, I have rheumatoid arthritis and one of my medications is rather large and I take two pills twice a day. They told me I could start taking my regular medications the day after I got home which was my second day post op and I was fine.
Dr. Weiner I'm looking into the process of bariactric surgery, however I see that one can't have sugar drinks or limited to sips after surgery. How would this affect hypoglycemia? If you are a type 1 diabetic on a pump how do one go bout knowing how much base insulin is required after surgery? what are requirements for pre & post op care for Diabetics?
What surgery would be better for a type 1_diabetic? The sleeve seems to give type 1 diabetic high potassium due to less insulin intake for type 1 WLS patients...
I have been watchung ur videos all day. I will definatly recomend u. I and 5 days post op n have so much gas, not sure if its something im doin ir what, my dr office is closed till monday so im scared im takin in to much at once. They said a sip every five min. But what is a sip. 1Oz?
Do you have to use Dilaudid or is Morphine a possible replacement? I had a very bad reaction to dilaudid and may have some sensitivity or allergy to it.
Never thought of a med to help with the stress. I was very nervous and could have used that, lol. I did wake up very congested and it was hard to breath (at least in my confused state).
I live in Milwaukee, WI I am having my surgery in May 10th 2018 I'm not nervous and I just had a class with Froedtert Hospital last week about it's and I have to do this 2-week liquid diet and that's scary me part that I have to do cuz I'm so used to eating I went bought all the stuff today that I need to do with my liquid diet well I'm trying to say should I be worried on the surgery day.
I'm certain that you'll do great, the serious complication rate for most bariatric surgery patients is only 2-3%. The 2 week preop diet is tough, but often very important for safety.
Dr. Weiner, something to ask you. I am going to have VSG in 2 weeks, and just RECENTLY was told by my Doctor at my last visit that I would not be allowed to take NSAID's after my procedure is done. This was new news to me, and am quite afraid because there is a strong history of Arthritis in my family. It just concerns me thinking that IF I do accumulate Arthiritis later in life or in old age (currently I'm 30), how effective will my treatment be in terms of the inflammation and pain? And what other alternatives are there? I would appreciate your knowledge on this subject. Thank You!
I am considering gastric sleeve surgery. However, I have a condition called aclasia which means I have peristalsis of the throat muscles. I drink water to get the food down. How will that affect that surgery
Absolutely a critical point that must be discussed with your surgeon - I would encourage you to explore a gastric bypass, I fear a sleeve would worsen your achalasia symptoms
I appreciate your input. I do not have reflux like so many people. Mine is just the difficulty of swallowing. If I eat slowly with small sips of water I usually don 't have problems. That is why I am considering the sleeve.
