K-pop is a music industry, not a genre. I know what they claim, but they’re Korean-based so that’s K-pop. There are all kinds of alternative music in K-pop, not just them. I love their music, but come on, X-pop? As you can see, that’s just confusing.

The only reason XG is based in Korea is that XG used the Korean training system for 5 years before their debut and that Simon was accustomed to, It doesn't change the fact that they are a Japanese Global Group that performs Hip Hop and R&B. If you have to call them something, then call them what they are, a global girl group or Jpop. You'll save yourself a lot of complaints from Alphaz's. Just saying

So while I think they're all fucking fantastic and just shows how versatile XG's talent is, just giving a heads-up about the genre switch up. That said, I'd recommend going through XG MVs from oldest to new. Well, I'd start with Shooting Star (where they picked up a more approachable melody than their earliest works) which skyrocketed their popularity (with the views to prove it) and go from there!
XPop was conceptualized 30 yrs ago. We first called this genre Apop for AsiaPop but it didn't feel right. All of us settled on XPop. We thought Perry would start it off when he released Storm. The beats tho... I've heard them before and I think Perry is working with Simon. Anyways...Winter Without You is something else. I suggest the First Take video. Enjoy the rabbit hole.
If I remember correctly, I believe Solar from Mammamoo went the full bald at one point. (Edit: I just researched. She did do a fake bald thing for one of her solo photoshoots or whatever, but I'm pretty sure I saw something about her actually doing it for real sometime after that, for women empowerment I think)

Their songs don’t even sound like K-Pop, that’s one reason why they’re not K-Pop. They’re Japanese and K is Korean. K-Pop took the idol ideas from the west, but made improvements. They saw how BSB, *NSYNC and other boy and girl bands was created and that’s how K and J pop pretty much started. They’re just added the rap elements to the dance and singing. X-pop took that and made more improvements by having all members that can rap, sing and dance.
Originally, K-pop was inspired by J-pop idols. Actually, the concept of idols originated in Japan. The entire 'K-pop system' is based on a blueprint from the Japanese idol industry, such as Johnny's Jr., which introduced the idea of trainees and similar practices. But XG is definitely not K-pop; it’s X-pop because their songs have more Western influences and some J-pop elements rather than typical K-pop styles, as you mentioned.

But if a person were to hear XG for the first time without the visuals, I highly doubt K-pop would even be mentioned. Obviously, their main influences musically are western (black) artusts, not Korean. And although, XGALX is based in South Korea. They are a subsidiary of AVEX, a Japanese company. I'm guessing Korea was chosen because mamger/producer Simon is a former K-pop idol, so he's more familiar and probably has more connects there.
