- The craft of fine leatherbag maker - also called Portefeuiller - is originally from Mediterranean region and from England. In Germany, the region around Offenbach became the center of the leather goods manufacturing industry in the 19th Century.
It is part of the PICARD company mission to further and perpetuate the craft of leatherbag maker - presently a rare skill - through apprenticeships.
Each of our products passes through many hands - from the choice of leather to its completion. An average of 80 individual parts and 110 production steps go into a leather bag.
Bought a Picard briefcase on my way thru Frankfurt Airport. I dont think i've ever possessed something of such manifestly excellent quality for such a modest price. I was thinking of a Longchamps - but this was one third of the price for a very similar quality of craftsmanship and hide. think Mercedes for the price of a Golf. Great to support european manufactured hand made items such as these.
yeah right?? I'm in love too! They have such a good quality, and are so well made, and the price you pay is really good. One of the best! And def. the price you pay and what you get is 100 times better than MK, LV, Guess, and similar, they are really overpriced and don't have such a good quality

What is the black material used on the leather that gives it it's structure?

The black material you mean is a special carton "Texon 2" that we use to make the bag stable.
