To Sonic 4's credit, that was a case of pretty great compositions held back by the instrumentation used. It's especially evident with the Tee Lopes X Jun Senoue medley of Splash Hill.

Jun should stick to his punk rock sound. Hell, his poppy tracks are amazing too, as long as faux-16-8 bit synths are not involved. It's almost like he never really worked on Mega Drive hardware and only provided his demo tapes for sound engineers to work with.
