If veil covered this now, it’d probably be pretty great. Their sound is more refined, less eclectic, and they have some beautiful sung sections now. I don’t think it’d be that bad to hear another shot at this
no
lol
lmao
new VoM is straight dogshit. new singer needs to leave. shitty ass pop trend most bands jumped to
I think this version of the song more accurately depicts what was going through everyone's minds on that fateful day...
Still don't know why people hate this cover, It's fucking Veil of Maya covering U2 which is pretty damn sick. It's a fucking cover so do expect it to be different from the original just a bit. Jesus don't be so close minded.
+DraculaXHunter101 ya, just a bit lol.. this is not Sunday Bloody Sunday.
I was expecting the their amazing guitarist to do more melody.
Saying screaming ruins this song is like saying, "This milk is ruining this cereal"
I quite like the nasty/raw sound. reminds me old Maya demo albums :D
@jschw460 Thats because they are a progressive/technical death metal band. thats the whole point. they dont stick to one time signature. They are an extremely talented band.
I love this cover! The idea that it's almost completely different from the original is amazing!
I almost cried this is so beautiful :') gotta love Marc Okubo \m/ that genius.
They really made it their own
How can you hate U2 AND Veil of Maya, both fucking rocked hardcore.
@jeanfulx In fact it's not religious, this song is about war & the position that the religion had. Because of conflicts between Northern Ireland & Ireland... & yeah this doesn't sounds like the original song, but that's the point of a cover :)
I don't like how people call death metal bands that use breakdowns deathcore bands. This band is an example.
did Veil of Maya record this underwater, jesus christ
+hi there It was recorded in the marianas trench.
+WeAreAllFake HEH !!!! ;)
a band called ignite did a sick cover of this song, i like both
you say that this type of band shouldnt be covering this song. well if you want to hear something that sounds like the original than listen to the original. its covers like this that branch out the songs into different genres making them great. like Within The Ruins cover of Carry On My Wayward son. or Johnny Cash's cover of hurt and Hundredths cover of that
Because their Veil of Maya, and they could. that's the only reason they needed
I don't know people don't like it, I like it, it's better then the u2 verison and the evergreen terrence
I love u2 and veil of maya. great cover.
Personally i would have liked to see the evergreen terrace cover of this song get the promotion for this game but ill go with it :P
The vocals don't need to be added, they could have a clean vocalist if they wanted. Just like the milk doesn't need to be added to the cereal, you could have just cereal. Do I really have to explain metaphors? And if you don't like the vocals, it's understandable, just listen to the instrumentals.
I like U2's older stuff and I fucking love this song. It's nice to hear someone go and pump the song full of testosterone.
whatever veil of maya does... even if it's a cover... is in such unique style. can't wait for their britney spears cover.
dude i fucking love U2 but this band gave the song some fucking life.
This is awesome! I never knew that awesome classic rock bands listened to metal!!!!!
oh my god
Veil of Maya actually made a shitty band sound good
Marc Okubo you fucking god you
Evergreen Terrace did an amazing job at covering this song, Veil Of Maya really eff'd up
This song is awsome and it turn into metal made it more awsome
...I think im gonna have nightmares from that fade-in growl at 0:17.
I gotta admit aside from just hating Bono for being pompous & sporting the mullet nobody seems to call out..I'm just nit a U2 fan but tried w/ this 1 & The Joshua Tree albums..U2 songs sound better when U2 isn't doing them. Thanks for posting, cheers !
I wont say its better than the original, i love the original version but the fact is that they are actually completly different... you cant really compare.....
Sunday Bloody Sunday is a good unique and this cover is a excellent metal song.... I think VoM really had fun doing this...
after hearing this a few more times i really like it.
@adenjoseee and how exactlly do you think people get ideas on certain genres and stuff? you gotta learn something in order to progress whats already out. why do you think there is so many subgenres and stuff?
@Liddlelegrande who said his voice is edited? lol thats simply not the case. you just don't like it, it's cool
It's funny how some people are getting mad because it doesn't sound exactly like the original. Well, that's kind of the point. They aren't trying to make a copy of the song, they're trying to put their own spin on the song. You can't really expect progressive metal/deathcore band to change their style completely so that they can cover a song. It's not supposed to sound like the original.
I LOVE U2!! XD The cover is EPIC!!! XD
They are a solid band.
The original was so dull and sappy. I really do like this cover. Usually I dislike most covers but here in my opinion (OPINION?!?! THE FUCK IS THAT BRAH??) it beats the first. VoM did an awesome job at making it their own, which is the point of a cover.
This is a million times better than the original, and I listen to music similar to U2 quite a bit.
@InsaneExoduster09 Unlike almost every other band on this 'album', VoM made the song they were covering their own. That's what you're supposed to do with a cover.
Thought I had this video playing backwards @ 2.25 speed, but its just the band.
VOM just metalized a good song and gave it a different feel, i dig it
this is the first time in my life ive ever like a U2 song...
This is basically a vom original with the sunday bloody sunday lyrics on top....
@BananaGeekLord Agreed.
either that or demons..
wow. But like, wow.
i like it for the originality. most bands metal bands today just do the same shit over and over again
I grew up listening to this song and this cover is fucking great!!!
veil of maya on homefront ? that's awesome
You know what is really fucking sad? When i first head about these songs being covered by kick ass metal bands i loved, i didn't immediately get excited to hear them. The first thing that came to my mind was how abundant the fucking petulant, childish 'musical' arguments that would flood these comments sections. Unfortunately i was right. Thanks for meeting those really low expectations people
@Liddlelegrande ... I can't have this argument or conversation if you think the only redeeming value to music is the meaning... Talk to any sensible artist of any trade. They most likely will want you to take things away from the art that only individuals can find for themselves. You know, emotions. Art cannot force feed emotion, one takes in the art and experiences it on their own, independent of the artists intentions.
Um...this isn't the in the homefront album on iTunes....are you lying? Where can I get this with decent quality?
lol the intro i always play that when im sparkin up some og kush ;)
Owned.
If you look in the video description...
clearly labeled "Genre".
Progressive Metal/Deathcore.
Not screamo. -__-
amazing ;D lovin' it.
I DON'T CARE IF IT WAS WRITTEN FOR DERRY OR WHATEVER, I mean that's chill and shit, but there are still levels for one to interpret aside from lyrical content.
Why is everybody on these videos calling these bands "technical death metal?" veil of maya isn't technical death metal, and they aren't even death metal. I listen to VOM alot, and they're just progressive metal. If you wan't to hear technical death metal listen to brain drill, viraemia, or cerebral bore.
To all the people who say the screams are edited LOL I feel sorry for you, you obviously havent seen them live
he sounded exactly the same when I saw them last year ;)
love it!
one more amazing song from VoM
@kingxnubbs lol dude..i declare war is not grindcore. Pig Destroyer, Insect Warfare, Agoraphobic Nosebleed..they are grind. IDW is maybe slam, but I'd argue more for Deathcore. Grind is one of the most incorrectly labeled genres out there. Dillinger Escape Plan is an incredible math band and have been doing things different for over a decade. Maybe it's not "brutal", but you have to recognize how they helped make mathcore what it is today
I'm quiet love the soundtracks of this game.
@adenjoseee i totally get it now bro. sorry for the confusion.
Before raging. Think to yourself, what makes a good cover? If you seriously think about that question... you should realize that just like any artists work, it's an internal interpretation. Therefore, if a band's cover is just a regurgitation of the original work, it means that they didn't put much work or creativity into it. Personally if I wanted to here a copy of the original, I would just listen to the original. Try "Imagine" by APC. IMO perfect example of what covers should be like.
@MrBlatz89 great comment
@TheAspectZ lol i have musical education. I go to school for music and am attending berklee this coming semester.
AWESOME BRO
@JayFFAFAlesanaES But man, Lil' Wayne is just SO GOOD at guitar!
That was more hardcore than the game
LAWYERED
2:39 is awesome.
spotify?
I've heard the original, and I find it rather boring compared to this. Veil took this song, and gave it energy and variety. And I think it's beautiful.
very all things set asidey.
@BananaGeekLord agreed
@haveehearttt yea it is lol its a cover.
Funeral diner was awesome too ^^
@Stealthmachin3 IDW with big chocolate was. now there not really. and not all the stuff i listen too it brutal, my favorite band is dead and divine, i also enjoy protest the hero, title fight, polar bear club, STYG, blood for blood, agnostic front, misfits, minor threat. But for mathcore ive give more credit to Rings of Saturn and The Contortionist.
@BananaGeekLord Saying that Veil of Maya is generic is the first sign of not knowing what you are talking about.
Probably figured out at the beginning that changing anything about the song to a veil of maya-ish sound would just sound so out of place with the rest of the song, that theyd have to change pretty much the whole thing.
its pretty much a different song, only thing thats similar are the lyrics and some of the chord progressions
@GeeBenny Yeah this is way to hard for the cover. If they sang the chorus it wouldve been amazing
well good but i don't hear the U2 song in it, cept in the chorus a little bit.... but it's still pretty cool
@MrCl1nt @DuhVize Probably should have been more specific. I meant this version is generic. Its nothing new. Its fast drumming, guitar wankery, complete with a break down thats filled with chugga chugga chugga chugga chugga
@Liddlelegrande Dude, these screams are natural, not edited in any way, its obvious you have no idea what you are talking about, and yes it requires skill
fuck, this is psycho heavy!!!! thumbs up! (or should I say horns up!!)
THIS IS SO FUCKIN FUCKIN! AWESOME D=
@rhcpjohn444 I think it was just a quick cover for this album. None of the mixes were really that great. VoM is my favorite band and I kinda hate this mix, but I can live with it. Try listening to The Acacia Strain's cover of War Pigs. Vincent's voice sounds like it's twenty miles away.
i fucking love VoM but i wasnt a fan of this cover. i just dont think this classic song in particular couldve been remade in this genre. but again, i love VoM and i respect them for trying :)
@danrobbo93 dude.... Marc Okubo is a musical genius. His is the opposite of fret wanking as you so eloquently put it. He is precise and rhythmical beyond any run of the mill musician... which I'm sure the U2 guitarrist is. Also in all of his own compositions has managed to create extreme complexity harmonically while remaining the only guitarist in the band. 1 guitarist in a metal band is already quite an achievement.. and especially within his genre... Preiphery has 3 lol.
@MrHaz15 yes i did lol.
how can you say those bands aren't metal when they are legendary metal bands?
Nothing can make Veil of Maya suck. Ever.
@Liddlelegrande again missing the point... they don't need to know why they wrote it. If music NEEDED explaining for self-interpretation, well, it wouldn't be self interpretation.
@foreveronkronic lol it is djent fool. welcome to the world of subgenres - sometimes new ones come up
Why does this sound exactly like they are covering 7 angels 7 plagues?
@alexismorche im pretty sure none of the bands i listed are deathcore. SBPU is slam metal, IDW is nearly grindcore, Micawber is straight up Deathmetal, and parosymal butchering is Brutal deathmetal. but i also listen to some deathcore, its all good. well most of it. but you need to learn what you talking about kid.
Best song ever
@sanntiimusic \
i know what cover is, im saying that it doesnt sound like a copy of the original song. its a good thing. haha
