I too taught in Public Schools. I loved those kids, both High School, and Middle School SPED students. Without ever disclosing my faith as a Christian, the kids all knew. I just loved on them, sagging pants, long hair, pierced, tattooed, bare bellied, full of energy and creative ideas. I was asked questions and I simply answered honestly, without piety, judgement, or disapproval. It was a rich experience.
Thank you for these wonderful insights, how timely our world is just about once again to rip itself apart, I live in Northern Ireland over the past few days violence has once again poured out onto our streets , Bonhoeffer is supposed to have said when he watched very similar events occurring in his native Germany ,' Misguided people are more dangerous than malicious people'. Wouldn't it be an unforgivable crime if this wonderful beautiful man died in vain. Please keep up the good work, God Bless
I absolutely love this concept. I read secular literature, listen to secular music, like to meet people from other cultures and find my heart expand with the rich beauty of different human experiences. I have come under much criticism for this view point, but it is exactly what Jesus did. He meets us where we are. I also came to the conclusion decades ago that heaven was a temporary resting place until we received our new bodies. We were made to inhabit the earth in physical bodies, not live as spirits like angels. I came to this understanding by simply reading the scriptures. Paul taught the same thing. Individual faith? Yes. Why? To live the love of God to those around me. Why again? Because that is how people truely come to know Christ, through the loving actions of His community of believers to the people outside of the family circle. When Christ appears, He is not snatching us up to live forever in heaven, but to return with Him to heal the earth and it's many peoples. It's what the scriptures teach. Thank you for sharing Bonhoeffer's thoughts on this. They mirror my own.
