I have one of these, came in the same box except the camera is slightly different: 1.5" monitor (correctly listed on the box), a mini HDMI port next to the Micro USB port, different style up/down buttons and no light/LED next to the lens. I bought it out of curiosity so I wasn't surprised at the video quality. Still useful for situations when I'd rather not use my GoPro. Enjoyed the review.
All of these under-$50 cameras and camcorders use a laptop webcam as the imaging device. The Onn and Jazz brands at Walmart, the cheaper Hubsan quadcopters, etc. all use the same (technically different but functionally 99.99% identical) laptop webcam as the imaging core. They have a very narrow field of view, show plenty of CCD sensor noise even in daylight, and have an IR hot mirror in front of the lens rather than mounted to the sensor. There's a couple of videos on my channel where I strapped a cheapo cell phone fisheye lens adapter to my Hubsan X4 H107C HD quadcopter and got a pretty decent wide angle view with massive lens flares; the footage from the straight camera is so narrow that it's useless. With this sort of thing, they'll do the same basic thing that I did: put a very wide angle adapter in front of the webcam element to correct the FOV. I can guarantee you that they're interpolating to 1080 because the resolution of the captured video is very obviously lower. The datasheet for a Genesys Logic USB 2.0 UVC-compliant webcam unit can do 15fps at SXGA (1280x1024) and 1280x720 is just SXGA with a 16:9 crop. These cameras usually pair an embedded ARM processor with a USB 2.0 webcam and a USB 2.0 SD card interface and there is a maximum to how much MJPEG-compressed data can be sent practically over USB 2.0 minus overhead and the competition from the SD card interface on the same bus. As an "action camera" (or any camera used for practical footage) these things are garbage, but as a toy camera they're acceptable. The time-lapse footage is the best out of all of them. I would want to be able to turn that timestamp off though.
I just got one of these today for $5 new! I know it's not a GoPro, but is definitely better than a kick in the a$$ when it comes to taking videos in extreme conditions where you really can't use your phone. Thank you for the review!
I enjoy your reviews. It seems that for a small sensor, the camera does surprisingly well in some situations. When mounted on the dashboard and in good light, the video looks rather decent. Edges are not over-sharpened and the colors look realistic. In many instances, road signs are readable. Hand-holding the camera to video tape your daughter came out good - it’s useable footage. The camera’s stabilization is weak. You can see this when the bicycle tires hit rough pavement. Photo stills are poor - there’s a lot of noise, but still the colors are great. The time lapse movie (why did you shoot this in the evening!) came out pretty good considering the poor lighting. Low light test indoors - no action cam does well under such dark conditions. Thanks for making this and all the other action cam videos!

Just happen to find your video on the cheap camera , I picked one up at a second hand store for$10 dollars , haven’t tried it yet got to get an SD card for it was wondering about the sound pick up on it but while you shot test video and spoke it seemed ok, I’m going to try and shoot some under water footage while going fishing , I guess the low light situation might be a problem the deeper the water but it will be fun to try it thanks for making the vid 👍🏼👊🏼
Hi, please do a water test.. please make a short video of it in water.. we do not swim 35 miles p/h, and as it says on the box water proof, all the videos is on land and very seldom in water.. so maybe the 1080p 15fps or the 720p 30fps is acceptable for underwater usage ~E.N

as a dashcam in good light it seemed ok, lowlight test proved to be horrible though, bike footage was so so, but the biggest thing I noticed was volume of audio was horrible. Timelapse was cool!

I just picked up one tonight for my son and I think from what I’m seeing that he will love it. Now. I don’t have a computer (I know. WHAT no computer lol) but I have xbox x ps4 iPads etc. Can I still use this go pro on one of these devices or do I absolutely need a laptop/computer. I’m hoping with the USB he can plug it into his ps4. If you know. Please let me know ASAP and if I cannot use it without then I will just return it. Cross my fingers.
i haven't tried it with anything else aside from a computer...can't say. If you have a phone that takes an SD card you can just plug in the sd card in the phone

Did you still have the camera in the case when you were indoors and when playing ball outside? The sound was very weak then. It is a 720P camera up-scaling, or inter-polating to 1920x1080P. That is why the frame rate is low on that setting, because it is eating up processor power.. A better idea might have been 720P @ 30fps VGA @ 60fps & VGA at 30 fps.
mine was crap quality but after i did this the quality got better; filming and then putting the sd in the computer watch video and put it in the cam and format again and reset cam again then film something again put it in computer and repead proces it worked for the 2 i bought (2 diffrent models old and new i think)
Before I had a go pro I really want a go pro and my dad got me this one, fair enough for the price is definitely worth it, however poor quality, but price could be more powerful in that argument

I recently got two of these or at least a variation of it. I've had them on charge from a PS4 via the included USB cable and when I turn them on and hit record the battery goes from full to 2 bars to 1 in less then a minute . is there something I'm not doing right with these ? do they need to be on while charging ?

15 fps are good enough for the car, but for real action 30 fps footage is way better.
30 fps is ideal for most filming...but i don't know... the footage even though it shows as 1080p...doesn't look that clear...

5MP Camera. No extra battery. Better use only 720p30 for video, 1080p15 is just not watchable.
