Thanks for the info. I was having problems with Trader Workstation locking up on my 32GB Memory system. It was set to 768MB by default. I upped it to 2048, no muss no fuss about the number, windows will handle it. Also, highlighting the high and low on the chart in green and red is fantastic! Thanks for the hints. There are so many options in TWS, it is difficult to navigate them all. Good info.
I completely agree that there should be a separate colour for after hours on the charts. If there isn't a way to show it I hope IB addresses this in the future.
Thanks for this well made and informative video! I am struggling to get familiar with this platform and most the other tutorials I’ve seen were more useless than the excessive amount of settings that are customizable. This software seriously needs a makeover to match this century... you are Very helpful!
Most helpful 19:35sec... So many great features/functions now added to my trading screens that I probably would never have bothered looking into unless I came across this vid! So many thanks... (Still having issues adding green and red backgrounds to my ticker lists though....even after following a TWS Color Change vid - Aaarrgghh!) :-)
Thanks for this! I downloaded TWS over a month ago but could never configure it to my satisfaction. Consequently I'm still trading on a bank-based platform charging huge commissions for frequent, small-value trades.
Truly helpful settings very well articulated with a very efficient delivery pace. The memory allocation setting info tops all of the others in my view. So much pain saved, and the annoying refreshing update status bar of the book trader is a reliever too. Great tutorial. Thank you so much! I appreciate it.
The function is increase or decrease size, it's available to program to a hot key. It will increase by the size increment you select in the order presets. You can also make presets for individual tickers.
@@VerrilloTrading Hi Verrillo, thumbs up for your feedback. I have another question, for the time and sales, in the settings, upticks is green, down tick is red. But only the first data has colour on it, the rest date stays in white font in my TWS. What about the rest data, how can they have colours on them ?
One of the best video for setting the TWS !! I don't if someone can help me on one particular setting: one month ago i check the box " don't show this window again" on the windows preview order when you place an order. Well now I would like to restore that window BUT I can not find on configuration the setting. Any suggestions ?
Thank you for the kind words. The setting you are looking for is here in TWS: File > Global Configuration > Messages > Confirm order submission. You will need to check the box on the right side to re enable it.
Yes that is a fair statement but it depends on what kind of forex analytics you are looking for. I think TWS has more analytics for stock options in particular.
So good very helpful info. One thing I have been hunting for and can't find anywhere is how do you get your stop and take profit orders to show up on the chart?

Great video, thanks! Does anyone know if IB has a halt indicator, some kind of highlight on the Level 2 that tells you if the stock is close to being halted due to volatility?
I kinda stumbled over a way to separate premarket and/or days etc without to much trouble. In any Charts Window go to ‘Edit’ and select ‘Vertical Line’ and drag it to wherever you want a division. From there you can drag it forward every new session. You can have more than one also. .

Hey, thanks for the videos on TWS. When laying down horizontal trend lines, is there a way type in the level that you want the horizontal line displayed at? It seems like the only way to adjust is it via mouse drag.
amazing video. A couple of questions regarding setting up TWS. Is there a way to display only the put side of the option chain? And hopefully only/mostly the out of money part?
I don't believe that's possible. You can choose some display settings in the top right. Say if you only wanna display up to 1 standard deviation or all strikes, you can choose that.
just discovered your channel - awesome stuff. Clearly I don't know what I don't know.... will have to binge watch your vids. (Subscribed). I am new to tws and relatively new to options trading. But I am a bit confused about setting a stop loss when selling a credit spread. If I wanted to set a stop loss to exit a position when the option price rises to 3x the net credit received, how would i go about this if (i) the position is already on, or (ii) i place the stop loss at the time of the placing the trade order? TWS shows the credit spread as a "buy" order with a negative price (credit). If the net credit is reflected as -2.00, would I set the stop loss (market) at -6 or +4.00??....would i set the stop loss as a sell order on the position?...I called IB today and they spun my head around. Thanks!!
I have seen all your videos, and are very helpful, I am not trading in a real account yet, but a I have a question, do you recommend start with CFD's in IB? I don have so much money but I would like to start with USD $2K and I know that I cant do day trading with options with that amount. Any recommendation?
Israel Barba I highly recommend paper trading until you start to build some consistency in your executions. Send me an email and I would be happy to answer any questions.
@Alessio Maliziola There is no minimum to open up a margin account in Canada. The thing is if you want any form of live data you need $2000 USD equivalent or more in order to subscribe to market data. (even if the market data only costs a couple dollars per month). Once the market data is active you only need to maintain $500 USD to keep the market data active month to month. You don't need any minimum balance to open up an account I believe.
Thanks for the video. You mentioned you found TWS slow. I was finding it really really laggy and slow, then I noticed an advanced option that lets you use the last stable version. It is now much much smoother. At the login screen to TWS click more options and then you have options for stable, latest (default) and beta
Hi Chris, do you still use the 2048 MB allocation memory? I find the TWS works really nice and fast for some minutes using 2048. However, after some time using it and the more i switch between few stocks, it becomes slower and slower to the point it can´t be used, like when a videogame starts stuttering really bad with lets say 10-15 fps..So i have to reopen TWS and then it starts working good again if i don´t switch between stocks that much.. I only have 2 charts, 2 level 2, 2 times and sales and 2 small watchlists in total counting all my TWS tabs, which is not that much. Has this happened to you? IBKR can´t address the issue as always....I have a new high end PC with fresh Windows install so pretty sure its not my hardware at fault. Any help would be highly appreciated man. Cheers!!

Wow! Thanks for all these useful hints on TWS, You saved my life :) Could You please advise about paid data subscription from IB, what data I need for stock day and swing trading. Thanks in advance and keep up the good work!
Kind words! I'll be honest a lot of traders seek other data feeds but mostly for very short term trading. If you are holding positions long like many hours or days then the IB data should be fine I guess. Example you are a very quick scalper, you use IBKR as a broker but use a 3rd party platform to send orders. The reason is that in the 3rd party platform they normally provide a much higher quality datafeed and some advanced order management. Some examples would be Sierra chart or Das trader.
Been using IB for like 9 months and pretty happy with them. One issue I have is that the time&sales will sometimes switch to decimals under the Last column instead of the current whole number price of the stock and I have to click on and off the name on my watchlist to get it back to normal, do you have the same issue at all?
Great video! Does IB have a "Fill or Kill" order execution for stocks? So if I want to buy 10000 shares of a stock, either it will fill entirely or not at all? I think it has this for option contracts but I'm not sure if it has it for stocks. Thanks.
Thank you for the tutorial. Much appreciated. Also can you please show more about setting up hot key and 1 click BUY/SELL for Scalpers (in and out quickly)?
Hi thanks for all your video.I am interested on IBK but the thing is that I do not understand how to set a 1% risk ratio and mainly how to get out of that trade....If only I could know this,I immediately use IBK...Sorry for this stupid question...
Hi, very detailed and useful video !!! I have a big setup with many screens, including 60 inch screen, when I extend the layout to fill my screen the main grid becomes too big, around 2 inches, so when my windows snaps to it, them changes in 2 inches intervals which is too big, any idea of how to reduce the grid space or to avoid windows snapping to it ?
Very informative series - I would prefer that you reduced your camera box down to about 1.5" though. This is a huge distraction. Your camera box is almost always in the way. Another tip. Pointing at your monitor is not helpful. We can only see your mouse not what you are pointing at.
It could be a setting you programmed in your hotkey menu by accident. Be sure to use the correct hotkey menu (if your on the chart program them in charttrader hotkeys).
Love this setting vid, Question: when adding a trend line i want it to set it to the tick/candle hi/low/open /close, for example. try setting a horizontal trend line MES to 3862.50....good luck, it will go to .51 or .48... Thanks
Thanks for the video, and thanks for sharing the options which you find useful and the ones which do not matter so much to you. Made it a powerful 19min35sec! I did have two questions (i) do you know if there is a setting for a countdown timer for when a candle is about to start / end? (ii) is there a way to 'alt tab' between the different tabs you can set-up in TWS?
Pleasure to help. Timer, I don't believe so. Tradingview has that feature but TWS doesn't I think. I don't think you can alt tab either but try messing around. Sorry, couldn't help much there.
Great guide man! Thanks very much! Question: How do you get your windows to have virtually no boarder? Mine have pronounced grey title bars and great boarders where as your screen looks very seamless.
Great video man! I was super confused about some stuff in IB and this clears it up. Another question! What market data do you need to show all level 2 data?
Thanks very much. For the level 2 there are different subscriptions for the different networks. NASDAQ total view will show you the complete order book on NASDAQ traded securities. There's one for the NYSE and for the ARCA, they're separate. Not so useful in my opinion unless you trade massive size or small caps.
Good question. With a margin account you are permitted to use your currency or assets as collateral to purchase securities without necessarily having the underlying currency of that security as collateral in your account. What it would result in is a negative USD balance when you buy a USD stock. Say you buy USD $5000 worth of a stock, your USD balance will still decrease by $5000 when you buy it. The cash and other securities in your account are acting as the collateral to make the trade. You will incur interest on negative balances, refer to their website for how much that is.
That may be too high, you don't need to allocate that much memory if the program is only using around 1 to 2 thousand MB. It can also depend on how many charts and widgets you have open.
Appreciate this awesome video! I literally spent an hour following through with settings on my computer. One problem I’m having though is ChartTrader BuyStopOrder Button. Isn’t the whole point of this to set an order at where you click the mouse? Wherever I click, it just jumps to the last price. Is this normal?

This is a very nice and informative video. Please make a video on the Advance Chart of TWS-Trading View Chart.
Thank you. This is in our notes for video ideas, will have a look in the new year.
Very informative series - I would prefer that you reduced your camera box down to about 1.5" though. This is a huge distraction. Your camera box is almost always in the way. Another tip. Pointing at your monitor is not helpful. We can only see your mouse not what you are pointing at.
Thank you, this was one of our very first videos. We really had no idea this video would get this much attention.
I would have probably given up on traderworkstation! if it wasn't for your videos.
Glad they help! 😁
Thanks for th evideo. Helped me a lot... Why are all my LMT orders executed + - .010 from the target price? Is there a setting I've missed?
Thanks.
It could be a setting you programmed in your hotkey menu by accident. Be sure to use the correct hotkey menu (if your on the chart program them in charttrader hotkeys).
Thank you for putting this together - extremely useful content! Sorted out a few things that were really bugging me. Much appreciated.
You're very welcome!
Thank you very much for the video! Great and very helpful for a new user to the TWS. Greetings from germany!
You are welcome!
Love this setting vid, Question: when adding a trend line i want it to set it to the tick/candle hi/low/open /close, for example. try setting a horizontal trend line MES to 3862.50....good luck, it will go to .51 or .48... Thanks
Newby here. Thanks for all the info.
Welcome!
At the 18 minute mark of the video, what key were you hitting to increase the order size? Was it just the Enter key?
No, this is a function that is assigned to a keyboard shortcut in the hotkey menu.
very helpfull thanks! and hola from Mexico! 😃
Happy to help!
Thanku so much for this video it is really helpful God bless you
Kind words !
Awesome, just switched to IB and this really helped.
Glad it helped!
Thanks alot for the valuable insight!
No worries!
Great guide man! Thanks very much! Question: How do you get your windows to have virtually no boarder? Mine have pronounced grey title bars and great boarders where as your screen looks very seamless.
I'm not sure what you mean but it could be the TWS color scheme you choose. Mine is set to dark, there is also light and classic.
@@VerrilloTrading No worries. Thank for the fast reply! :)
Oh man THANK YOU....would have had no idea I needed to actually manually increase memory allocation....sheesh.
I pinned a recent comment by somebody who seems to understand that even better. Cheers!
@@VerrilloTrading Okay sweet! I'm actually starting out with small caps! Thanks man, the vids are helping out a ton.
@@jasonm8755 Pleasure to help.
do you need to purchase USD to start trading US stocks? Or could you just use CAD to start trading US stocks?
Good question. With a margin account you are permitted to use your currency or assets as collateral to purchase securities without necessarily having the underlying currency of that security as collateral in your account. What it would result in is a negative USD balance when you buy a USD stock. Say you buy USD $5000 worth of a stock, your USD balance will still decrease by $5000 when you buy it. The cash and other securities in your account are acting as the collateral to make the trade. You will incur interest on negative balances, refer to their website for how much that is.
Many Thanks, it was very helpful 🙂
You're welcome!
Thanks for the tips. May i ask how to change the colors to show green for up and red for down on the watchlists.
It should be in the general settings.
I put my mem alloc to 12000 MB ;) Runs pretty good with that
That may be too high, you don't need to allocate that much memory if the program is only using around 1 to 2 thousand MB. It can also depend on how many charts and widgets you have open.
Hi-It's an amazing Video. Thanks for this!! Question-Is there anyway we can change the background of TWS from black to white?
I believe it's in the display settings and it's also there before you log in. (in a drop down menu)
I ran into that problem as well. Decided to just use bid or ask instead and then move the order with either the mouse or a hotkey.
Thank you, very helpful video!!
Glad it could help.
The best video so IB setup, Thanks Verrillo. Shoutout from Tdot.
Nice, going to apply this to my CedarFX account
BEST IFN VIDEO FOR IBKR they should buy the video off you and put it as their main demo man 🤦🏻♂️🤦🏻♂️😂😂
