It can be a race, but those trying to inch out the 2nd or 3rd objective in era 3 which are hard to do, might get passed by those that battle into other cities toward the end , not finish their era 3 objective and still win.
7:08 in fact, the blue player has the ability to move other units with its Monarch, so the Guaycuru card is redundant in this case, but for other colors, it is a very advantageous Painting to have! ;-)
8:01 although the City is taken by other player, the defense of a conquered tile is ONLY the strengh of the units over it. The 5 points does not count when defending a city that was not built by the player, and if they leave the tile empty, it becomes property of the original owner back again.
Yes that is how we played it! I had the rule book next to us and looked at it often when playing each time but I read, learned and taught over 20 other Gencon games this past Weekend after my most recent play of this at my Weekend After Gencon (WAG) convention that I hosted do my brain forgot that little rule when shooting the overview today.
Thanks for this video. This is a game that I'm considering. However, a cursory preview of this and Revive struck me as two similar games and I don't need both. Would you agree?
I’d say Mosaic does have less conflict but they are both very different. Brazil feels more like a 4x game where Mosaic is more of a Civ game. Brazil has more mechanisms where Mosaic is more streamlined but still feels like a big game. I guess it depends on your taste and play style.
The history is actually a turn off for me...a game with conquering and settling and expanding, well, I can't really enjoy that in a historical context like this. I'd rather have it fictional and not have to act out something that is so historically unpleasant, personally.
Well the hope is when you study history, you can prevent it from happening again. The experts say that’s a good way to try and stop history from repeating itself is to learn from it. When I was in Israel at the Holocaust museum leaning more about the things that didn’t often get learned about was astonishing and moving to a point that it’s something that will stick with me for the rest of my life and in turn definitely shapes you.
LOL... can't enjoy a game because "history is a turn off". This proves that people will always find something to complain about LOL. Thanks for the review GBG!
Great video! Brazil Imperial is a great game, very strategic (most strategic game in my collection). I would love to have dual layer boards too and about "wood + science = rubber" maybe reading this help you understand why this happen in the game: en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Natural_rubber (to me is very thematic)
Nice! I'm Brazilian and on our local BGG one of the game developers kinda implied that there will be expansions. I liked it a lot!
Hey, Rubber is actually from a tree sap (wood) called seringueira. Thats why tou need Tree and science tô make it.
Good to know Lucas!
We have played about 5 games of this, and have done combat maybe twice. When I teach this now, I describe it as a race.

Great feedback. The game, just today, became available to purchase for me. So I’m really excited to play this one.
Awesome George let me know what you think!
I've been very interested in this from just how pretty everything look
Cool An!

Sorry but I have not played Revive.
@@TheGameBoyGeeks Did you see it at the con?
Hey Dan how would you compare this to mosaic or the newer civ games? The others ones even have less conflict correct?

It just doesn’t seem as excited as scythe . Not sure why I like unlocking things better in scythe more .
I can't for the life of me understand why companies are not doing dual layered boards for games like these in 2022
Beginning of the second day it sold out and they had about 75 copies.
That’s incorrect. They had 140 copies and 90 were pre ordered.

@@morpheus587 Lots of things can be turn offs in games. I'm sure some of what I'd like is a turn off to you...
My farts smell even less than yours.
