So do we think Eritrea should be forced to come back to Ethiopia? Of course not, Its an independent country, and we respect that.
If Somaliland wants to be independent from Somalia, and I see it has been functioning independently for many years now, what is the issue with recognizing their peoples wish?

      More importantly:
      1. Somaliland territorial borders were made in 1889
      2. Somalia's borders were made 1925
The only viable unity of all Somalis is if: Ethiopia abdicated Haud+Ogadeen regions, Kenya abdicates NFD regions, Djibouti accepts unity and then Somaliland and Somalia can discuss a NEW unity of all Somalis.
It is pure hypocrisy to reject Somaliland sovereign right, while Ethiopia and kenya colonise somali territory.
Now if Somalia wishes to promote somali unity it needs to work towards liberating territories still colonized by Ethiopia and Kenya and Yemen (Socotra island).
AU countries sovereignty is based on colonial territory... pure and simple... either respect all colonial borders or remove them all??? And if that is the case, Somalia should begin claiming the Haud+Ogadeen territory of ethiopia?

Somaliland was a British protectorate from 1884 to 1960 it's no different than Eritrea whether East Africa likes it or not. The people of Somaliland rejected the constitution of 1961 just one year after the unification. Italian Somalia did not took over Somaliland by force rather it was a voluntary Union. Very touchy issue. We are saying no more divisions in the Horn and here we go. Why can't Ethiopia negotiate with Somalia and create opportunities for everyone rather than creating animosity? There are some Somalis who believed the movement that was started by Hermela which was to respect the sovereignty of each country. Now Somalia will be forced to look for friends like Egypt and at the same time support rebel groups against Ethiopia. When is the Horn gonna breathe? When are we gonna open borders and integrate and carry single passport? Farmajo really believed in Abiy but he is now under heavy criticism back home and most likely will not return. We want to hear what our Somaliland brothers have to say on this subject. Ethiopia shares a large border with Somaliland and there is no initiative from Somalia on how to handle the situation, no proposals, negotiations and tangible solution in sight concerning Somaliland. in the mean time Somalia couldn't even agree on a unifying constitution and mode of election and is still run by former warlords and hooligans while other countries are establishing military bases in Somaliland. Looking at the mess in Somalia and with no initiative or dialogue around the table on both sides; Somaliland will never agree to join up with its former host country. Hermela, there are a lot of mistakes in this video.
    1) The Somaliland, Somalia population ratio is 1:2. Not 1:6 as stated in this video. Hargeisa is the 2nd largest Somali city in the Horn at about ~1.5 million people, with the rest of Somaliland being in the range of about 5 million. Somalia's population minus Somaliland is about 10 million.
    2) Somaliland's existence respects the principle of Uti possidetis in international law. This alone makes it a unique situation in the world. Recognition wouldn't lead to a domino effect of secessionist states across Africa. Other unrecognized states don't have these conditions met.
    3) Somaliland is NOT a secessionist entity, it is a founding state in the 1960 Union to create Somalia. It was a disillusion of union that was corrected in 1991.
    4) Somaliland held a referendum in 2001 with a 97.1% voted in affirming Somaliland's independence.
This fact is further cemented by the African Union's fact-finding mission in 2005.

You are incorrect and spreading false information.
      1) There is no official consensus conducted in Somalia that reflectds offical populations. You are cooking up numbers because your second point already alludes to the Montevideo convention for statehood which one of the main criteria is a fixed number of settled population. The lie is so convinienet for you to state IsaaqLand is 5 million because you think it would satisified one of the requirements.
      2) somaliland aka IsaaqLand does not respectd any international law or logic. Armed milita who go by the name of SNM who everyone knows who were created by and for Isaaq declared this is called country. The question to the world and any sane people is "since when do tribe get recognised as a country?" The immoral argument for the likes of you and others who support this is that they claim lands that belong to other tribes in the region and forcing them, by force, to comply. Also, we all know the quagmire that is African borders due to colonial borders. This would and SHOULD create a domino effect if the any member of the internal communiate dares to recognise illegal region as a country.
      3) Another big lie, and you are not even ashamed of it which is very telling. British somaliland was a region which the British gave back the control to local administration. It did NOT get recognised as a country, no country including the British recognised it as a country and we certainly NOT a member of the UN. So where does your fantasy come from that it was a founding state? Do logic and truth not mean anything to you people? Lastly, calling it an 'disillusion' of the union won't change the fact Somalis were and are anti imperialism. The ancestors fought and died for these lands. Somalis from all walks of life come together to create a nation on 1st July 1960. The Republic of Somalia. You and other tribalist will never break this.
      4) This is absolute a joke, gone are the days were you spewed your falsehood unchallenged. Somalis are awake to your bullshit. For anyone else reading this, this is called referendrum did not have any international observers, ballots were not sent to all the regions they claim to control, armed SNM militia were sent to certain regions like Awdal where they intimidated people who went in to vote. Laslty, and this is the most important of all, is that they lied and switched the question of the so called referendum in 2001. Initially it was NOT meant to be a question of secession but due to misinformation spread over the radio and forcing many who could not read or write to vote led to this. There were voluenteers from a university in South Africa who went there on their own money for research purposes and they've expressed their concern there were prevented from visiting Sool and Sanaag region were other tribes live. They have also observed people who were allowed to express their opinion.
Your bullshit won't fly anymore man, this information is easily available, please google their so called referendum in 2001 and you can read up on those volunteers who were there.
AU so called fact finding mission was the most idiotic of it all. I wish they'd fully recommended IsaaqLand recognition because every stupid dictator in Africa would have suffered the consequences of their action. A TPLF funded mission is not something any sane person should qoute.

It's certainly not the appropriate timing for Abiy Ahmed to open another front against Ethiopia. There are already several issues to deal with in local regions, not forgetting the tension with Eritrea. In my opinion PM Abiy didn't take the right decision in this case.

For the past 30 years the only thing Somaliland gained from Ethiopia is training of high-ranking soldiers and scholarships for students other than that I don't recall any help from Ethiopia. We buy products worth more than 500 million dollars from Ethiopia and in return we asked Ethiopia to purchase our fish and Ethiopia said no. Ethiopia is a close market and we should close Ethiopia from our markets especially Khat. Mr. Abiye Ahmed turn his back on Somaliland right after he was elected and right now Somaliland is getting new friend like the United States and Taiwan.

That a one-clan breakaway enclave calling itself Somaliland is part and parcel of Somalia in the eyes of Somalia, the rest of Africa, and indeed the international community of Somalia.
That the one-clan secessionist enclave uses force to compel its secession on the other four unionist clans in northern Somalia (former British Somaliland) who occupy nearly 70% of the territory.

The move of Abiy is to get a Coast using Somaliland.
It would be better to establish Islamic dominance among all ethnic groups. Mosques run by Muslims spreading Islam in all Ethiopia to unite folks. We need to provide jobs, health clinics, development, and education opportunities to suffering Ethiopians. Islam can spread through trade/commerce like before. I mean the Christain missionaries where very successful in Ethiopia and the same can be applied for Muslims. I can see it people in Gambella become Muslim, Benishangul is muslim, 100% of Oromos muslim, southern peoples become muslim, etc.
There will still be plenty of Christian's in Ethiopia but they will be minority.

We Somalis have had so many wars with Ethiopia for a centuries and Ethiopia is aware Somali fighting spirit. However, Ethiopian aggressive towards Somalia go whole the way 1414 and beyond, every time they tried, they have been defeated, retaliated and completely annihilated. The whole of Ethiopia was about to fall under somali hiro Ahmed Gurey1530, but saved by a Portuguese Pedro da Gama, son of navigator Vasco da Gama.
Ogaden War of 1977-78 between Somalia and Ethiopia, Somalia defeated Ethiopia and came as close as a few kilometers from the capital of Itiopia Addis Ababa but saved as usual and previous conflicts by Soviet Union and Cuba, which were seeking a cross-continent socialist alliance. If they think we have internal conflicts to be exploited and invade our country, we are willing to give them one more round. Somali Patriotism is what all Somalis have in common one for all, all for one, do not underestimate when it comes defending our motherland from north to south. Soomaliya ha noolaato.

Somalia cut diplomatic ties with Kenya and Guinea-Conakry for exactly the same reason: State invitation and rolling out a presidential style welcome.
Ethiopian trade with Somaliland = $1bill annually--- what if Somaliland stops this?
Ethiopian trade with Somalia = $unknown and less then $1000 annually i guess
The question is why is Somalia discriminating between 3 African countries?
Somalia should cut all diplomatic ties with Ethiopia immediately..
