A new form of "highway robbery". Theft is a crime, even when the police do it too. Changing the terms, does not justify it. They are guilty of robbery, just like anyone else would be.

She did get her money back... "The Drug Enforcement Administration (DEA) will return more than $43,000 it seized from a Tampa woman at an airport after she joined a class-action lawsuit challenging the agency's practice of using civil asset forfeiture to confiscate cash from travelers." I wonder what the outcome of that class action suit was...or, if it's still going on.

    Dear Jeff
DEA is a Taxing enforcement agency who's purpose is to provide revenue to the US government. They were armed with this law to combat Drug Runners who do not pay taxes. Any cash you carry they claim that it is the proceeds of a crime. Now you are required to prove that it's not. Remember lawyers and courts cost money and the government appeals for free. Cuz they pay their lawyers to be there anyway.

Same crap happen to me. $15,304.00. Then I was sued for my money. Ironically I had just left the casino. They told me I was lying. A night in jail. Eleven months of going back and forth. Finally I gave up. I was in the military at the time. Took my loss and kept on moving. Lesson learned. Now I do wire transfers. The make up these laws as we go. Fun fact: if I’m in a traffic stop the cops have rights to search me or my vehicle without cause just because of that incident from 2006. Back in 2006 I was told if I let them condemn the money they would dismiss my case and it wouldn’t affect me in no type of way. Wrong!!! I’ve been searched 6 times since 2006.

Yeah. Congress needs to change how the law is abused throughout the continental United States. This can also happen if you are driving your car and stopped by law enforcement. I saw this explained on Lehtos Law you tube video. You then have to prove your innocence to get your money back at your legal expense.

That because they are ScumBag,Power tripping,Thug,Bullies Disrespecting/Abusing their authority under the color of law. These citizens sold their vehicle,a Maserati I should note which clearly would justify the amount of cash for a vehicle about that year. Shame Shame and Shame once again for this corrupt legal system we. To add insult to injury they have to spend $5,000-$10,000 or more to get their own legally aquired money back. Many times people may not have the money to pursue getting it back or situation where they are arrested whether legally, unlawfully/unjustified and it's made difficult and or impossible to fight back.I am sure these poor folks look at law enforcement in a new and different light now.
