- Lori McKenna explains how 'Girl Crush' was written before singing the award winning track with Ashley Monroe at CMA Songwriters, London. The Little Big Town recorded song was penned by McKenna, Hillary Lindsey and Liz Rose. The song won Song of the Year & Single of the Year at the 2015 CMA Awards and also Best Country Duo/Group Performance & Best Country Song at the 2015 Grammys, having also been nominated for Song of the Year.
The songwriters event took place at Indigo within the O2 Arena, London on 10th March 2016 as a prelude to the Country to Country Music Festival.

Another reminder to solidify Lori as my favorite singer/songwriter. Others may take in the sales with her songs, but she understands her creations best. Her versions are always the best renditions.
The more I hear from Lori, the more I like her. She's just like most of us and captures that normality, or maybe humanity is a better word for describing how Lori writes. Love her a lot in any case.
I was at the Songwriters that night she as very moved by us singing with her.

So much better than the Little Big Town version. Songwriter’s seem to always convey emotion that a singer simply cannot. She should have recorded that song.
I prefer Little Big Town's version, it has more layers. But this is still brilliant.
I think they are equally great! But we tend to prefer the version we heard first…. Sia wrote and sings Rihanna’s Diamonds and Sia’s version is incredibly good!!!

One of the most moving experiences I’ve had was at a Brandi Carlile concert in Seattle…. She played with the Seattle Symphony Orchestra and they had us sing all together… they divided the venue into three parts and we all sang … it was an incredibly awesome 5 minutes!!
