- During the times of Holi, the rural villages of Goa turn into playgrounds for ancestral energies and Village deities. This phase of a few days is called the SHIGMO festival. the purpose of this festival is to worship the spirit gods and our ancestors. One of the festivals celebrated in the Shigmo period is KARVALYO.
A very unique festival dedicated to womanhood and women's sacrifice for society. We sat with knowledgeable people from villages like Nanoda, Keri, and Shiroli and tried to know their perspectives on their own festivals. Rama Vazrekar is a retired forest department employee and is currently a farmer. He has been following all the folk culture since his childhood and teaching folk art to enthusiastic artists from different villages. Gopinath Gawas is been studying and preserving various folk songs, culture, and festivals and has collected hundreds of folk items in the process of its preservation. He is also a respected principal of Vivekanand High School Sattari.
This Documentary speaks about the Karvalyo festival and Human's intention of playing Shigmo.

This documentary happened out of the passion for creating something valuable and the urge to know deeply about our beloved Goa. Though we are just filmmakers trying to spread awareness about culture, the majority of the credit for keeping our culture alive goes to such villages and their villagers. Their devotion to their culture is immense and we hope it stays the same. Hence, practicing, and being part of such rituals is more important than just capturing them to showcase them on social media. We appreciate and respect the people here in the documentary for celebrating Shigmo in such an energetic manner and letting us shoot it wholeheartedly.
