How To Install A Whirlybird Turbine Vent On Your Shed Roof

- Please visit my shed building forum at buildashedgara... or my website at www.cheapsheds... for more shed building information. A whirlybird turbine vent will really cool your shed down if you live in a hot area, and vent toxic fumes out if you store a motorcycle, or paints or other nasty things inside. It only takes 10 to 15 minutes to install and really cools your shed.

Hillman is right, the only nails you should have exposed are two on the bottom of the flashing, all the other nails should be under a shingle flap. Smear caulking on the two exposed nails as well.
He nailed to close to the edge of turbine it will leak he is not a roofer you can tell by the way he handled the shngles . He broke the shingle instead of pulling up the nails.
Great job!
So if i use any kind of air filter over my intake vent should help keep the dust down , Thank you for mentioning the dust , to get me to think of filter .
Thanks! Appreciate the information. I am going to attempt this install this weekend.
Last step disregard instuctions and twist it to what ever you think is best...level first
Before the top goes in caulk inside turbine to flashing and flashing to roof
So... I put the turban on the ruff?
Could rain water come in through the holes in the vent
seems like you would put a level on it
THey look awesome when they're crooked.
Trying to figure out the easiest and most cost effective way to vent my 16'x24' (384 sq ft) workshop shed. It has a low pitch slant roof. I haven't done soffits yet so was thinking vented hardie soffit but then I would need an exhaust. Will the whirlybird work with the soffit intake or can it be a stand alone system with no soffit/intake venting?
How do you keep rain and bugs out?
😄that bird ain't going nowhere!
nice informative video I was planning on adding a whirlybird vent to my old shed because it's so hot in south Texas. How do I determine roof pitch? Thanks for the video!
+Brandon68plus1 Very often there is a pitch gauge on the cardboard box of the turbine that you buy. You will hold the edge of the cardboard gauge on the roof and measure the pitch with a level held horizontal. Check on the cardboard box of the turbine you are thinking about buying and you will probably notice it, along with the instructions on how to use it.
What do you use for air intake? Thanks.
Great video thank you
I heard 50% of the people say rain comes these and the other 50% says it does not. Anyone have input on this? David
I have had surprisingly few complaints about rain getting in. But if you live in a dusty area (like the Arizona desert) they will bring in huge amounts of dust and dirt. It increases the airflow by a factor of 100 times? The dirty air comes in, slows down and drops the dirt and dust before it leaves. So in a dusty environment it's a trade off. A hot clean shed or a cool dirty shed.
If this was done right there would be no nails exposed.
+Hillman Wents - Lol, another armchair DIY wannabe... this is for a shed, what he did was perfectly fine....
+*fg@ffgf5885sd55s not fine, if youre going through the trouble to put in a whirlybird or any ventilation for that matter, you should do it properly.
Weggman Hillard you are right there would be no nails .i dont care if its a shed or a house i dont want water to get in.
why no nails?
@@unsealedabsurdfiles It's not your shed is it?
My neighbor has one of these and when there is a breeze, it squeaks at a sharp pitch and drives me absolutely nuts! She's not very friendly and won't do a thing about it. Can you suggest anything I can do about it (without getting onto her shed)?
+Lesley Potts Sounds like it needs a shot of oil. But you can't do that without getting into her shed.
Throw rocks at it

I 2nd this idea
Buy that neighbor a new one they are cheap because that would be better than doing what these bozos are telling you to do. They will call cops and you'll face arrest. Then you'll hear other louder squeaks and moanings in jail. 😆
Mine don’t spin how do I fix this?
Get up on the roof and spin it by hand. If the bearing is frozen then you might need to replace it. If it just turns hard you might be able to lube it up and get it spinning again.
Get free replacement.
Can water get through that?
+qhongnguyen
Not if it's properly installed. Most of the time rain is accompanied by wind. As long as the wind keeps it spinning there is no way of water getting through. I have installed hundreds of these turbines and never had an issue with water getting in.
The only reason I ask is because when I am in the attic and looking a the whirlybird, I can see the sky outside. It just made me concerned.
Its all wrong.
