- Beekeeping trends you should AVOID at all cost!! Following the herd mentality in beekeeping may cost you your bees. Some trends are sketchy. I'm glad I didn't follow some trends.

Whoa, you made it all the way down here! Thank you ♥️ Love you Хобби
There is ALWAYS a gem of information one does not know, even as a more experienced keeper in these videos! Thank you David. See you in the NC/SC meeting in March!
I like the club comment, I would say the same with gardening and many gardening certifications. I have done gardening all my life and my grandmother had as well, as an actual farmer. The master gardening certifications given by my state is just a basic understanding anyone should be able to match in a single year of study, doesn't require actual gardening. Also the WVU extension service has offered talks that I attended first at 12 yrs. old and was shocked at the lack of practical experience or training for a so called expert. I asked questions on a few alternate methods for tight areas and natural alternatives for pest control and they heard about them but never tried or followed any of them. The limit of information they offered was just the standard stuff on the back of every seed pack and geared to the total beginner, not people that was already doing it looking to improve skills or deal with local issues of the time. I find people who either never farmed or never ran a commercial nursery tend to make up such groups. I won't say they have no merit but I do find far too many put faith in those weekend novices than people who earned a living on such fields that never bothered with some worthless piece of paper and government red tape. I also seen people spend huge amounts to have such "experts" to set things up in town but when it came to maintain that set up were overwhelmed because no thought was given to the ongoing labor.
Sorry I had a conflict and missed the live 😢 Just watched the saved one and it was again very helpful information. Thank you David, Sherry & Robbie for all you do, please know you are truly appreciated!
We are glad you enjoyed it. Thanks for watching!
Great video. Thank you!
Good evening David
lol your right you can’t worry in the winter i go into my winters and expect to lose colonies it’s just the way it is I just always hope I have enough make it so I can bounce back without having to spend a big amount of cash
Lol, yep no more shorts for me on a 90 degree day. Didn't get stung but 30 bees trying to make my tree and bush their new home was enough to end that.
Capped honey is not always dry enough even if it is capped. I know some have tested it and found 20%.
Other times the bees are pounding so hard and no time to cap 16%.
I don’t like excluders ether I seen a worker bee struggle to get threw it that was it they all came off
Over 50 degrees with bees flying load up fondant on the top frames only
What's the best way to attract wild honey bees to a new hive box.
Buy a package or nuc and shake them in. Otherwise, it's tough to hope they will be attracted to a hive box. I've never had it happen.
I don’t like pollen traps nether I use hive alive fondant and there nutrients but that’s it
Also with regard to opening hives frequently - its not just about squashing bees. I mean if your squashing 500 bees your doing something very wrong. Its understanding that every time you open a hive and inspect your inducing a 'stressor' stress can sometimes contribute to poor bee health - particularly if the colony is on the smaller side. I think its creating a balance, knowing when you need too and not, and how often. The bees know what their doing, and often just a little oversight is all that's needed. But definitely not too much. Honestly I've seen beekeepers going in twice a week!!! Personally i wouldn't go in at least two weeks apart.
At 11.are You really want to put queen excluders in winter just stay with 1 box or before winter, or put new deep box above the main box like 1 or 2 months if you want to split it with no queen excluder.
guys, will this work ?
After two years of beekeeping formic pro has killed two of my queens. 1 out of 4 my first year, 1 of 3 my second year. That ratio is just way too high. Why am I paying money to kill my beehives? Throwing my formic pro away.
Nice
people want bees earlier thinking they can build up and make honey year one
So true. But an early package, too early, may be weakened and have a harder time building up and actually make less honey.
playing now ;)
The early bird doesn't get worms, but a whole bunch of dead bees. Why rush? Wait till the first dandelions bloom for best Spring success and repopulation/bee ordering. New bees will need to feed on outside blooms/flowers, otherwise you're working MORE to provide them with food and warmth. Wait, patience is a learnable skill. On bee time, not human time.
I like cold install of packages. It keeps the bees in the hive for a while. Never had a problem.
