You are great at explaining techniques, you should do more videos on your expertise. Your communication and explanation skills are very easy to understand which is vital to teach.
Thank you so much for these tutorials. I'm going to start teaching the 4-year-old girl I babysit. I want her to work on her hand eye coordination. You're really good at explaining and demonstrating skills and exercises. I just started getting back into tennis myself after many years of not playing and your videos are really helpful.
Great videos man, I know your channel isn't huge now but I hope you know you can get keep getting better and better at tennis and teaching tennis if you just keep going. I know you're strong and have gained discipline through lifting so you are probably less succeptible to complacency but don't stop and don't get lazy man. Don't stop getting better, analyze your game and your teaching and really see what you can do to get better. There are so many other RUclips channels and resources online (we're extremely lucky right now and people don't take advantage of the online resources that they have and I think it's kind of this untapped treasure tbh. Most intermediate to high-average players don't need privates they just need to watch videos and analyze what they do/don't do) I think people will eventually catch on to this wealth of knowledge online and we're going to see many more good players. I don't think that anything is possible but I do truly think that very very very amazing things can happen with enough time and concentrated smart effort. I hope you get everything you want out of your channel and don't forget that your success and improvement might be an example of hope to other people. Good luck
I'm a 4.0 tennis player with 4 year old daughter. I mostly learned to play myself and looking for the best ways to teach my 4 year old daughter. I came across your videos and your 3 drills seem awesome! I hope you can put a part 2 and 3. Thanks Coach Dom!
I'm myself in this situation (4.0 player with 4 yo daughter). i have a little bit more experience because we have started training since she was 2.5 yo. initially I was training myself with ball catching exercises and some racket drills from youtube. Also tried some recreation level group lessons and private lessons from recreactional focused coaches - absolute waste of time and money - they focus to teach a kid how to rally and don't care/know about proper biomechanics. At 4 yo - the best you can do is to hire a pro coach (pro - means ex-pro ATP level player who know how to coach little kids) for short 30 min sessions. Believe me, 4.0 or even 4.5 player can't teach a proper shot mechanics. After a couple of lessons, you can start to teach your daughter same exercises yourself (keeping private lessons with a coach at least once a week). 90% of the time should be focused on a proper shot mechanics; body rotation, left and right arm positions, wrist movement etc. Don't try to play rallies, except very short time to add fun. Just repeat and repeat static forehand and backhand correcting the slightest imperfection in the movements and posture. For foot movement and general fitness - add soccer lessons, dance classes, gymnastics etc. Don't rush with tennis drills before she would be able to perform perfect shots during the rally (it will take long time). Now I've added weekly 2hr tennis group lesson to her with 6yo kids - but it's because already practicing shots for 1.5 years and because she can handle it.
@@Ryan-ix2zx Take into account that changing a stroke may be more difficult to do than learning from a scratch. All private coaches teach different strokes - big or compact take back, different racket path etc. But the key foundation is all power should be from a body rotation, zero arm use. It''s not an easy concept for beginners (kids and adults) and in groups kids almost always use arm instead of body.
@@Ryan-ix2zx My daughter is 6 now and about 2.5 months ago we completely changed her strokes (compact take back, use non dominant arm, focus on body rotation, eye tracking, basically everything) . It's very challenging - she is doing 90% fine during drills, but going back to old technique during free rallies.
Thank you SO MUCH for this!!! My 6yo is about to start lessons this summer and this was great info!! We used it this morning and it was all so helpful. Thank you again!!!
First step... teach them how to shuffle their feet from side to side... if theyre not coordinated, they are never gonna be able to hit a tennis ball... same thing with hitting... teach them where their legs need to go first... then work on the hands
In terms of coaching not equipment. I could not afford a coach to teach my child tennis if I'm not doing it myself, and there's no good town team/league type things like they have for basketball and soccer.
@@OOKIEDOKIE The coaching might be relatively expensive, but that doesn’t make tennis one of the most expensive sports to learn. I imagine golf, skiing, scuba diving, etc are more expensive when you factor in equipment etc.
Hey, I think a lot of people would love a part 2 and 3 - you're doing a great job, why don't you record more videos? Thanks!
I made part 2 and I will make more! Thanks!
Great video

You are clearly a natural at explaining things in a way that is easy to understand. Can't wait to see part two!
Great points! For little kids, you may want to show the backhand being two-handed. It would be easier for them.
Thank you coach! Will try today.
Great tutorial. My kids are totally with it after this! Thank you man.
I will do this with my daughter after virtual class today! thanks I will continue to watch ur series! best regards from Ecuador South America
