According to my dictionary it seems like 'sonop' is used when an action takes place at that time. For example, "Ons vertrek sonop - We will leave when the sun rises"). Whereas 'sonsopkoms' is used to describe the actual event, referring to the sun that rises. And the same logic would then apply to 'sononder' and 'sonsondergang.'
