  • A question I get from time to time doing songwriting is "how do I get my song on CCLI?" It's not super hard to contact them and see if you can sign up to register your songs. Just go to ccli.com and fill out the contact form and they're really good at getting back to you.
But, there are a couple of misconceptions with CCLI that might be helpful to clear up. Also a couple of questions that may be good to answer for yourself to see if CCLI would even be beneficial for you or more of an admin headache that's unnecessary.

What if we named a tune: “Jesus is Best, Listen-Worship to this One…you Jerk Ass!”…would that stick out with the Bingo ladies?

Honestly, I think that might be the only tune with that name. You’re well on your way to SEO champion

You are giving some good and some very bad advice. Of course CCLI does not market your songs. They are just a vehicle for exposure just like placing your songs on Spotify or Pandora. I was a worship leader for 11 years and I found so many unknown artists and songs BECAUSE they were on CCLI. Terrible advice.

This is actually part of the advice that CCLI themselves give to those looking to register their songs. I’m sorry it feels like bad advice to you.

@@jessedeanrivero I don't know who told you that. I called CCLI myself and they did not agree. Overall we are in agreement about how limited the marketing aspect of CCLI, but you should never tell an unknown songwriter to pass on any opportunity to get exposure.

@@manilowmaniak This is a direct quote from the e-mail when you look into registering with CCLI: "If you are not actively publishing or marketing your songs, we recommend waiting (to register your song). Affiliating too soon can be disappointing."
I've worked with multiple record labels for the last 8.5 years, (Black River Christian, Integrity Music and now Hill City Recording) and this has been the advice for as long as I can remember.
I think we agree that getting exposure for unknown writers is great. I have a FB group to connect worship writers with one another and to other churches in hopes that there would be more space for worship leaders and writers to find ways to create songs that are sung in local churches. A lot of my work here in Nashville is trying to connect independent artists and writers to the industry so they can be able to thrive in their callings.
Part of making this video was because I am asked about registering with CCLI so often and this is the response writers get when they contact CCLI. Again, I'm sorry it feels like bad advice to you. I'm actually trying to help writers and I feel like you and I might have similar thoughts in that. Maybe just a difference in opinion of how to go about it.

@@jessedeanrivero That quote is from an organization that are not necessarily made up of songwriters though. I can only speak from my own experience as a worship leader, songwriter and from speaking to CCLI directly. Each week when I looked for music I searched by theme, not by artist. Finding music from someone other than Redman, Jobe, Story, etc...is what I purposely looked for when selecting music. CCLI or PraiseCharts will not make any songwriter wealthy. It is just exposure and that is what any songwriter needs. The quote you began with is only a suggestion by them, but believe me, they want as much content as possible.

@@manilowmaniak I can agree that CCLI would like more songs to be registered and that it’s nice to be able to find more songs on there. Maybe that is the thing we can agree about. I hope you can continue to write and discover new songs. Thanks for commenting :)
