Geez this school has most definitely changed for the better since I went there, and I'm now a senior in high school. These kids are so lucky to be offered these special programs because when I went there we didn't have those opportunities. And back then the school never had a magnet organ. I hope kids are using these opportunities to there advantage because I would've honestly loved being apart of some of those things
In addition to my previous comment; if you are looking for advanced high school level courses, this is not the place. The school does not, to my knowledge, offer any high school level Biology or Geography/History course. They have Algebra, one Geometry teacher, Spanish, Microsoft Office, debate, and a Computer Science course. As you can see, most of those are electives. The promo says that they include Biology, however that course must have been terminated by 2022. If you go to this school I would recommend entering the Computer Science class as it is one of the few great classes offered here. Either they do not offer these courses or any other high school courses, or they never told me about them or gave me the option to enroll into such classes.
For anybody watching this is 2022, I don't recommend going to this school, especially if you won't be in Montessori. The Principal, Dr. Givens, makes the school hell for good students because of something one student did. For example, she had the bathrooms locked and we genuinely couldn't use the bathroom. That to me is considered cruel and unusual punishment. Another time, the administration nearly refused to serve lunch to students. The Principal also verbally harasses teachers for various reasons. If the principal is unhappy with a creative learning method that a teacher did that actually helps students learn, boom. Punished. If the teacher does something unconventional, boom. Punished. Overall, since Dr. Givens became the Principal, the school has sucked. The administration also clearly does not take time to understand students or hear them out for any reason. To add on to all this, most teachers outside of Montessori and even some within the Montessori program are not within the definition of "teacher" even by an Assistant Principal (Ms. Pluim), who is in my opinion a much better candidate for Principal than Dr. Givens. She is much more understanding and cares more about students futures, minds (referring to mental health and stress), and knowledge compared to Dr. Givens who only cares about order. Back to teachers, Ms. Bobis and Ms. Willis are two teachers that come to mind when talking about bad teachers. The two are constantly condescending to students, don't give proper directions/instruction, and punish them for nothing. Ms. Willis even made students make fun of another student. The lessons are not lessons, there is also no learning strategy. Montessori, however, has slightly better teachers. Although almost none follow the true Montessori method, they are at least better than the other teachers. If you get into the Montessori program, this school may be an option. The magnet coordinator also has clear favorites and yells at everyone else regardless. It is completely unfair to others who don't get to be heard. She acts all nice when parents are around, but in school she is constantly verbally harassing students. The food from the power up lunch program is also the worst food I have ever had. I have found rotten apples, undercooked/overcooked food, moldy string cheese, and stale bread. If you plan to go to Bair, I recommend packing your own lunch. If you want to go to a good middle school, this school shouldn't come to mind. Maybe in the future it will be better, but right now it is not a great school at all.
