In truth, the armor of the Sherman was slightly thicker than the T34-76, the difference was in the sloping of the armor. Not even the Tiger could take a hit from the Panzerfaust, or the M9 Bazooka, even in the front hull (the front mantlet was practically impenetrable), from the sides even the short-barreled 75mm could penetrate at 500 meters. The 17 pounder, and the longer-barreled 76mm, could penetrate both sides from 1000 meters. Oddly, you hardly ever have someone showing that!

And people say Shermans performed better than the other German tanks which 'can barely move freely without breaking down' German tanks improved their horrendous unreliability problems after Kursk
it's easy to point and claim superiority of a nation's armor when the entire video is a compilation of their exact purpose, put all into perspective and germans did not do well with tanks any time during the war.
Well Kursk was basically a battle test for the new german cats, that’s why it often breaks down because it hasn’t been throughly field tested and improved upon
Actually, by Kursk the MK's III & IV were very reliable tanks as to their drivetrain and overall systems, as was the Tiger, although slightly less so. It was the Panther that had teething issues, literally. The StuG, based on the MK III, was VERY reliable.
WW2 tanks were basically just big metal coffins. A metal box stuffed full of ammunition, meat, and in some tank designs: fuel tanks. I feel bad for modern tankers, especially the ones in Ukraine that are facing threats WW2 tankers didn't face like drones, ATGMs, and top-attack munitions. @@Filmpilot apparently all German soldiers were Nazis. Its funny how people automatically resort to calling someone a Nazi when they just recognize skillfull work by a German soldier.
it was a logistically viable option that was strategically superior for the situation. While they got roasted half the time, the germans lost due to the fact that they couldnt field or equip thier units to the capacity that the allies did. Hense the sherman being the most viable choice.
there's a thing called upgrade packages. The last shermans where completely differant, and where even then pretty antiquated. Hense why the abrams is over 30 years old and still going strong.
25:13, it's hard to tell how it was destroy, but the blast was causing the tank to roll over, not the damaged turret that show the tank made more than one roll, it need a good blast for making a tank roll, unlike the improvise explosive who usually just break the track, probably a mine or a bomb from a dive bomber. the missing wheel and track may just had been salvaged.
10:42 It's obviously a 37 mm PAK that shoot with mine...because of a huge explosion when hitting a T34. The 37 mm anti tank guns with standard cartridge were helpless against T 34. That's why the germans started using a mines at the front of the barrel activated with a blank cartridge. Latter using the 88 FLAK solved all problems with T 34 and KV.
I grew up on John Wayne movies where we Americans always win and seldom killed making me want to get my chance to fight. I wish they’d have showed films like this instead so we’d have known how bad conflict really is. War film is fascinating and I have to admit I still enjoy watching them but I really hope we never have another major war.
It was literally the safest tank of WW2. Sherman crews had an extremely low mortality rate. In the entire war only around a thousand tankers died, most of the time outside of their tanks.
Great video. I get the feeling most people still don't realize just how many losses the allies suffered in WW2, maybe in the future some realistic movies will be made showing exactly the monstrous proportion in battles such as Kursk or the Ardennes.
At 15:39 that's a Panther hit by Yanks in Cologne. I give you A+ for trying to put together a very difficult subject. I know many people gave you a hard time about the description of tanks I am grateful for seeing a footage lost long ago. Where did you get the footage, may I ask? If it is confidential I don't want to pry. You are very resourceful thinking that WWII ended in 1945, well done in that respect.

ualuuanie Typically, whether it burned or not, the transmission, running gear, gear box, and engine blocks made it out fine. Assuming they weren't hit directly. Some M4s were simply cut in half, and the part that wasn't damaged replaced the other section of a tank that was damaged.

Genius! Don't believe me, look it up!
At 7:18 the tank labelled as Sherman is actually a Grant. Note the riveted construction. at 15.33 the "M10 Wolverine" appears to be a T34. At 15:51 the "T34?" is an M10 Wolverine tank destroyer.

12:41, the tank hited had a 85mm, it's either the T-34-85 or the IS-1, both have the 85mm D5T or Zis-53 but not the KV-1
and it's called Sturmgeschütz - or with an "Umlaut" Sturmgeschuetz, not Sturmgeschmutz
+Sven Frey I know but I have no umlaut in my keyboard
And that's why you have to write it with "ue" in Germany it's the same as "ü" :)
+Sven Frey thank you, I'll use next time
+zvallid you're welcome! :)
+Sven Frey Sturmgeshütz or without an umlaut Sturmgeshuetz :-)
Beautiful video.
And people say Shermans performed better than the other German tanks which 'can barely move freely without breaking down'
German tanks improved their horrendous unreliability problems after Kursk
it's easy to point and claim superiority of a nation's armor when the entire video is a compilation of their exact purpose, put all into perspective and germans did not do well with tanks any time during the war.
You aren't even safe behind friendly lines anymore.
8:01, it's a Vicker 6ton Mark E (british built but exported in a lot of place)

sorry it's an old video, I've cancelled all files related to this video. I think it come from youtube music library
The German named the Sherman „ Feuerzeug „ because most of the time they went up in flames. When they hit the Sherman.
It was actually the tank with the lowest chance to be set alight
Then the question why does the germans nicknamed him "Ronson".
Many sherman were running on gasoline and we know gasoline has a low flamm point when it ignites. No tank is safe from even Tiger tanks or other could be set on fire.
It nice to see that most tanks in this video are still in 1 piece, not all.
@@solthegamer3769

The tommy cooker or ronson burner😢
“Tommy cooker” was a nickname given to all tanks in North Africa, just because the sun would heat the tanks up and burn you if you touched the outside of them, and “Robson burner” was a nickname given after the war based on the misconception it would randomly catch on fire (it didn’t)

Sherman was no Tank, it was an joke :-D
it was a logistically viable option that was strategically superior for the situation. While they got roasted half the time, the germans lost due to the fact that they couldnt field or equip thier units to the capacity that the allies did. Hense the sherman being the most viable choice.
Yea such a joke that they were still using it in the 1973 Yom Kippur war.... what a pile of crap, clearly.
just because they still hade 10000000 rosty cans
there's a thing called upgrade packages. The last shermans where completely differant, and where even then pretty antiquated. Hense why the abrams is over 30 years old and still going strong.
hence....germany won....oh wait....

Just for the main title i can Tell the vid is gonna be satisfatory af
10:42 It's obviously a 37 mm PAK that shoot with mine...because of a huge explosion when hitting a T34.
The 37 mm anti tank guns with standard cartridge were helpless against T 34. That's why the germans started using a mines at the front of the barrel activated with a blank cartridge.
Latter using the 88 FLAK solved all problems with T 34 and KV.
I grew up on John Wayne movies where we Americans always win and seldom killed making me want to get my chance to fight. I wish they’d have showed films like this instead so we’d have known how bad conflict really is. Thank God for the Sherman crews that survived WW2. How could the American Army field such an unsafe piece of equipment.
It was literally the safest tank of WW2. Sherman crews had an extremely low mortality rate. In the entire war only around a thousand tankers died, most of the time outside of their tanks.
@@nikolakaravida9670Second safest, but your point still stands.

Yes, it sadly is
Great video. I get the feeling most people still don't realize just how many losses the allies suffered in WW2, maybe in the future some realistic movies will be made showing exactly the monstrous proportion in battles such as Kursk or the Ardennes.
Yeah , in movies they just show Germans and Japanese fighting like some immature kids .
At 15:39 that's a Panther hit by Yanks in Cologne. I give you A+ for trying to put together a very difficult subject. When 1 of these shermans get hit do they scrap the whole tank or patch it up. Some of them show the whole tank explode inside I would think all of the equipment inside would be damage do they repair or scrap them?
+ualuuanie Most of the ones that didn't burn from the ammunition were typically repaired and put back into service.
Nathan Peterson That would take a long time. They would need to remove all the damage equipment, install new ones and not forgetting the body works and paint job.
ualuuanie Typically, whether it burned or not, the transmission, running gear, gear box, and engine blocks made it out fine. Assuming they weren't hit directly.
Some M4s were simply cut in half, and the part that wasn't damaged replaced the other section of a tank that was damaged.
