It was so good to see how humble Ken and Royce were and to see the Gracie family all together. The fame/money caused some things to change quite a bit.
Humble Royce? Royce is an asshole because he doesn't just NOT let go when the opponent taps, but the ref actually has to PULL Royce off of him. He's a piece of shit.
@@heyshipwreck5445 I'd suggest you read my post again to get what I said. If you don't want to, then I'll simplify it: Guy taps out, Gracie wins, Ref steps in to stop the fight, Gracie CONTINUES holding on, Ref has to PULL Gracie off of him and Gracie still holds on to his opponent until the Ref has pulled on him enough. Gracie's a black belt and holding your opponent in a submission while the ref is trying to pull you off isn't even something a white belt would do. _That_ is what I'm talking about and that's what makes him a piece of garbage.

I shouldn't comment because I'm a lover not a fighter... LOL. BUT, he was a boxer. I have no idea his career record, but seems quite possible to me that a BOXER, not prepared for a downright no holds bar street brawl and loses in seconds. @@brentbarnhart5827 Your point about the poor chances of boxers winning a prize fight against wrestlers and mixed martial artists is valid. But the 250 and 0 remains suspicious even for the boxing world. First off, the nice round number of 250 is almost too beautiful to be true in what is likely his first high profile televised fight. I would have to see a tally from an official body to even begin to take it seriously. Secondly, he doesn't strike me as a boxer who could win 250 fights in a row unless he's competing in the women's division or against kids. If any man could win 250 consecutive boxing matches against legit boxers without 1 of his adversaries getting even 1 lucky knock out, he would be well known. I think his record was fabricated by the UFC to highlight the superiority of MMA against boxers. It was an obvious promotion.

Thank you for the upload. Brings back some great memories.
I remember this first UFC. I was in my early twenties. Back in the day a lot of us used to argue about which marital arts was the best. For example: I used to believe it was kickboxing or Tai Kwon Do. Then, along came this FECKIN AWESOME UFC that basically shut everyone up. No more arguments.
Jujitsu is number # 1 and Royce Gracie went thru everyone to prove it,
Thank you for putting this up👍 I was a sophomore in high school when this first came out there was nothing better then enjoying something new in the fighting world with some good friends😀👍
Amazing. To watch the fight game evolve from this, to what it is today in 25 years is incredible.
It actually was better then bird dog
It's crazy it almost feels like there have been 28 years of evolution in that short time period.

It's amazing that no mouth guards were required for the fighters in UFC 1. Everybody knew that mouth protectors were a "necessity" in boxing and kickboxing, long before the UFC ever existed.

It was so good to see how humble Ken and Royce were and to see the Gracie family all together. The fame/money caused some things to change quite a bit.
You could say that Ken was pioneer in footlocks
Humble Royce? Royce is an asshole because he doesn't just NOT let go when the opponent taps, but the ref actually has to PULL Royce off of him. He's a piece of shit.
@@berner ITs not over until the ref calls it. Youd do well in a fight i can tell SMH
@@heyshipwreck5445 I'd suggest you read my post again to get what I said. If you don't want to, then I'll simplify it:
Guy taps out, Gracie wins, Ref steps in to stop the fight, Gracie CONTINUES holding on, Ref has to PULL Gracie off of him and Gracie still holds on to his opponent until the Ref has pulled on him enough.
Gracie's a black belt and holding your opponent in a submission while the ref is trying to pull you off isn't even something a white belt would do.
_That_ is what I'm talking about and that's what makes him a piece of garbage. If he were doing the same thing to you, I'd still be saying the same thing.
As far as I'm concerned, he's an empty gi.

Ken was/is a real good fighter, just love how he take the loss and you can see in his eyes that he gonna take this experience to the shop and work wirh it!😊😊❤️
He almost murdered Gracie in a later UFC that somehow had 2 OTs on a 20min TV time limit & was called a draw with no judges because Gracie was beat to shit & couldn't continue. Shamrock called for more time, but the Gracie family saved Royce. first 4 UFCs were run by the Gracie's.
Ken learned a lot from this loss
Great upload! So Happy to have seen this! The way Ken Shamrock speaks after his SF loss is incredible.
I was bout 19 when this first came out, watched it as it happened. My neighbor was a 5th degree black belt from Dominican Republic (& a neurosurgeon, no joke - & I understand what some say bout "belts", but this guy was legit to me)...he used to get all these shows when they were not quite so easily accessible (also why I was privileged to see earlier Tyson fights when harder to find). Thanks Dr.Vasquez!!!
As I have gotten older, now 50...I dont know whether to call these early UFCs genius, alarming, or both - certainly more dangerous. Yet, funny what one learns bout the Gracie control over these early events yrs after the fact (including the one boxing glove-seriously? Jimerson's choice or not, someone should gave said SOMETHING!) Then there are the theatrics hear & there of Royce "exhausted" the ring attire advantage, etc., not cool Gracie family. W/that said, I respect & acknowledge Gracie Jiu-Jitsu, its all a mixed bag for me. The next few years introduced us to greats like Severn, Tank, Paul the Bear, Oleg Tarktarov, etc...list goes on. Not sure whether to be appalled or impressed, forgive my being vague...but damn!!!

@@ed_2285 essa historia nunca me convenceu

so much crying from the black boy. 😂😂😂
I shouldn't comment because I'm a lover not a fighter... LOL. BUT, he was a boxer. I have no idea his career record, but seems quite possible to me that a BOXER, not prepared for a downright no holds bar street brawl and loses in seconds. He simply planned to win on his feet with his hands, and we all know by now, that is not how these goes down.
Used to be different types of martial arts challenging one another. Now it's mixed. Also they fight continuously on the same day whether they are injured or not
I'll never forget the day I first saw this, it was 1993 and I was 12 years old. The girl at the video store in Portage MI didn't mind renting it to me. I rented this and Rambo: First Blood.
