For everyone wondering what this song is about, the most common opinion is this. The song is actually Aru, who is the female character. The male with the white hair is Ai. While this is called A Mistaken Belief of Love, Ai Aru no Kanchigai can also translate to Ai and Aru's Misunderstanding. Aru is believed to be a youkai, who is haunting Ai in his dreams. In all actuality, Aru was originally his cat that he had mistreated, which made the youkai appear. Aru was only fulfilling relationship that Ai thought he had. Though, he ends up getting drunk and killing the cat, whose body can be seen near the end. In the guilt, he also attempts to end his own life.
is Aru a girl? at first i thought Aru was a girl but then it looked more like he was a boy with a cat ear hood, like at 1:20 1:30 1:51 3:18 etc etc. Not saying that a girl can't have short hair lol just curious really

I like how some of the lyrics strayed a bit from the actual lyrics. 2:39 "Tonight, there's part of me that sneers, "They're gone," a laugh ringing in my ears." made me tear up since it's an early and much more direct implication about the person (cat?) dying. the 2:54 "I'm gone. Times up." made me really sad too. but surprisingly, i got hit the most when he sang 3:00 "I'm not the one." it just really caught me off guard, especially with the way he sang it being so sad (to me at least). the original lyrics are kinda "There's no mistake-you're no exception." which make me ache on it's own because of its implications, but "I'm not the one. Can't run now." has its own implications that also break my heart. the part that probably impacted me as much as that is probably the switch from "A lie's alright so let it be." to "A lie's alright so _let it go."_ at 3:13 amazing job!
I feel like your voice might go well with Sayoko, Bitter Choco Decoration, and/or Sarishinohara! I’m referring to the woman as Ai and the man as Aru as a different theorizer has done. Ai and Aru were in a relationship for a long time, and it was not the healthiest of relationships on either side. Aru didn’t treat Ai very well at all, but Ai was certainly not a saint. Despite this, they “loved” each other in their own ways. One day, Aru learns that Ai is dead. It could have been from suicide, which is what I choose to believe. This instantly sends Aru into a spiral of guilt, looking back on how he had treated her and realizing that his behavior may have been what sent her over the edge. This is evidenced by the lines “Tonight, there’s a part of me that sneers “they’re gone” laughing in my ears” maybe a pre-learning feeling of dread that Ai was dead, and “I’m gone, time’s up, I know it’s true I’m the one who’s coughing blood” being the realization, which then sends him into that spiral of pain and self-hatred (the final chorus. everything before this in the song is about their actual relationship, or could possibly be him reminiscing more calmly about everything he did after she died, which is more likely.) Aru tries to convince himself that she loved him and that none of it was his fault in any way, but he knows it’s not true. “A lie’s alright so let it be, I needed to think that you had loved me.” He’s sent into a terrible mental state that haunts him, as he frequently dreams about the event and about Ai. (the music video!) thats my two cents, i hope u guys like ahahah
