The fact that Lance is still there after his constant mediocre performances says everything about the team right now. If they were serious they would have found a new driver that can perform consistently and pull as much performance as possible out of the car, like Fernando. I worry that they are favouring Lance over Fernando and aren’t even using any of Fernando’s feedback. I feel like Lance would not give the same quality of feedback to the engineers which is why the car seems to be moving backwards in terms of upgrades. If Stroll Sr. really wants a championship winning team, he needs to identify roadblocks without bias.

      @Thuddster 12 дней назад +2

From the outside, it does appear that possibly, Krack (with Papa Stroll's backing) is now really going to base car development on Lance's feedback and preferences. If it doesn't pan out with positive results, that might help Papa justify (to himself and Lance, mostly) finally moving Lance out of the race seat. This would make room for Yuki, thus appeasing Honda, investors, sponsors, and Fernando. Something of a "prove it, Lance" situation.

Alonso was trying different setups on the race because the wind tunnel data was not matching behavior on track (Mercedes wind tunnel). He pitted several times gathering data with different ride heights and floor geometry opposite to Lance's. Aston Martin's issues right now is that they lose a ton of downforce on bumpy circuits like Imola, same will happen in Monaco.

*(Rant about AM's current performance in 2024, from a casual F1 fan's perspective.)*
Aston Martin, you as a team (from Lawerence Stroll to the management team to the engineers hard at work improving the car) need to step up your A-Game. [after the summer break and 2025 pre-season and F1 Season]. I had high hopes for you as another British team *since 2021 (when you bought Racing Point)* to regularly compete for podiums, top 5 finishes and occasional wins by strategy or pure luck [though I doubt it cus, *Max Verstappen.* ]. You had a competitive midfield car last year (8 podiums in 22 race entries)! One-third of the season, and imo right now this is *beyond woeful.* (Sidenote: Haas, Alpine, Williams and Sauber, you guys aren't scot-free)
Honestly guys, *please get your act together.* I'm always hoping for another season like 2012 (6 different drivers from 5 different F1 teams winning a race in that single season, *in a row).*
I *love competition, teams fighting it out for the coveted WDC trophy come Abu Dhabi or Brazil (that's how I got into F1),* and this is *just not it.* If you don't step it up come Monaco or British GP or after the summer break (at least top 5 finish in one of the next few races before summer break after the completion of Spa), *I don't know if I can support you anymore.*
I sincerely hope that this performance from AM (and other teams like Alpine, Sauber [2026-Audi], Haas, Williams and VCARB tanking to develop their car early for next year) isn't part of their current and long-term roadmap because *HOT TAKES for AM (maybe/maybe not, we'll see):*
    - Drive to Survive *will eventually* get cancelled by Netflix (because viewership will tank yr-on-yr if the narrative stays the same *[Max Verstappen dominating, occasional podiums from other teams, and Max Verstappen taking the title, rinse and repeat]* and it's boring imo for US audience fans who used to see *different teams win in American Sports* like NFL, NBA, MLB, NHL, etc).
    - AM might not be able to compete for F1 WDC come 2026/2027, and *AM gets sold to another investor/manufacturer come 2030/2035.*

Many years ago it was occasionally suggested that one of the issues with Fernando Alonso was that he wasn't a good development driver and honestly I'm feeling more and more inclined to believe that as AM slide backwards from wherever they started the year and have upgrades fail again and again. To be clear this isn't all his fault; most of it has to be traced to the team's structure and workflow and, let's be real, having a more competent, less apathetic driver in the second seat would absolutely help but you've got to wonder at this stage.

They should make updates for Alonso and not try to please Stroll jr. Every time they bring a update Alonso gets slower.

Hoping it goes well at aston.I really dont wanna see alonso suffer again in the mid field. He is a top driver deserving of the best cars not for his sake but for the sake of the sport as well. some of the best times/seasons in the last 20 years of F1 were the ones where Alonso had championship contending cars.after ferrari it has been all downhill sadly.
I wish AMR gets better. but the way its looking the best they can do for monaco is bring back AMR23 from monaco. Maybe theyll get points easily with it

Okay, tin-hat on the Vettel thing, but I couldn't help but notice he skipped the rounds where the Aramco investors would have been in 2022 and I think his 'sickness' was more likely him being briefly sidelined for refusing to toe the party line and pretend he was okay working with one of the more infamous petrochemical companies and human-rights violators in the Saud family on their home soil. I don't think he was very happy there anyway and I think this might have been the final straw.

This aged well. Suprisingly or Unsuprisingly Aston Martin was the only team to be slower than their 2023 Qualifying runs, not helped by the fact that alonso didn't manage to get a clean lap in Q1, but also the fact that even in his fastest Q1 lap, his sector 1 was 0.2s slower than the fastest time set at the time (I think it was piastri).
One idea from a reddit comment I saw was that, the engineers that AM poached from Red Bull esp Dan Fallows bring in whatever concept that made the Red Bull great into the AMR23, but as soon as they bring upgrades which moved away from the concept, thats where the consistency and balance of the car start to fall disappear. I really hope that their new wind tunnel will help mitigate their corelation issues

This is affirming the confession that the team made that the operation built entirely around the Strolls. Room for reasonable doubt is shrinking and it looks increasingly plausible that the upgrade package is being catered towards Lance instead of optimising for pace & consistency.

AM was fast because they had a flexy front wing. The FIA clamped down on it and they have been scrambling ever since. They have recovered some of the performance, but not all. Alonso has been driving the car above its potential, so he's going to have some bad weeks. They blew the opportunity to win Monaco when they were fast. It's not coming back.

I’m surprised you haven’t posted about Andretti F1 new member of staff. Pat Symonds has resigned from his post with F1 and joined Andretti. Now he wouldn’t do that if they weren’t getting in would he and, he should know working inside the F1 “club” as they seem to want to run it.
Every excuse F1 has raised has been shot down including put lanes aren’t big enough to hold more than 10 F1 cars especially as Spa managed well over 30 cars at the six hour WEC race. Oh, and the coverage was free for all the sessions too.

If it’s all about the bosses son then I’m sure their building the car around lance if anything more so Alonso and what he prefers. Sure this thought is a bit out there, but it could be something they’ve been doing to make lance not look as bad. If they made the car awesome and Alonso is constantly at the top and lance is at the bottom. It could add even more pressure on papa stroll with the investors , but Them being equally as “bad” can buy them a little bit more time and could give them more wiggle room to say we’re still figuring it out .because now it’s just them struggling as a team vs just the bosses son.

I don't see a quick mclaren recovery considering that is mclaren we are talking about. Aston Martin is a relatively new reality that grew too fast and a thing that doesn't work is Lance Stroll that is maybe on par with Sargeant but nothing more. You can rule a team with the iron fist, but you cannot cover the deficiency of your son, Lawrence is wasting money.
