J.D. Sumner's recitation of the Savannah preacher is by far much more moving than Hank William's original. Done by J.D., the message is powerful beyond words.

Hank Williams wrote this poem after walking into a rundown old black church in Montgomery Ala. He wrote the words down the preacher spoke to the family and he later recorded it calling it "The Funeral" I don't believe he wrote it trying to be racist, I think he was trying to show white people that black people loved and needed God too. J.D.'s version was a shortened version of it, but it was still a good song.
