    One tips I will do on my project. (Transporter T6 Not yet arived) When I do the panneling I will have 3 Plastic tubes from back and towards the front for later upgrades. I will use plastic tubes to run electric cabels true and I will ad three more for later. Then I don't need to tear up the walls. I will also bring a connection box. That I will run relays if i want more lights to turn on bye the doors and one that is controled bye the ignition key. So if there is thing in the back that will only go on when the engine is running..
    Sad I dont have a camera. But I think I need also to explain and show my build on RUclips.
    Love your videos. You give so much ideas on what to do and some what i don't want :-)

    Mine came with the hook up under the rear bumper which is OK until (as you said) it's raining and you have to kneel down to locate the socket... Looking forward to your updates with interest as I'd like to be able to charge my vehicle & leisure batteries while hooked up as all my internal lights run from the batteries etc. I may have to replace my electrical panel.
    Keep it up mate

      Fab, thanks for the feedback. The next few videos I'll be doing are all about fitting the Sargent EC-160 - Hopefully they should help you. The principle is exactly the same regardless of the power control unit you fit.

    You're videos are really helpful - we're going to follow some of them for our first campervan build. Could you please let me know where you got all of your campervan products from, from electrics to furniture etc? Thanks!

    Can you have a mains hook up to feed the van battery if all lights etc are wired to vehicle fuse board?

  • @chrisc6504

    the van i have has one of these socket near rear wheel and it work fine even in rain

    • @GDUBTV
      @GDUBTV  7 лет назад

      It's not the problem of it working, more not wanting to kneel down in the rain and get muddy knees! :)

    Hi the 240v fitting you have is the wrong one yours is a socket you should have a plug. As it is the lead you need to plug in to the site lookup would have live pins exposed until you plug it in serious shock risk beware

    • @GDUBTV
      @GDUBTV  6 лет назад

      Hey dude, not sure if you've seen the whole video but I initially started fitting the wrong connector but finish up with the right one installed - Very astute of you to notice my glaring mistake though - Top marks! :)

  • @CampervanAdventures
    @CampervanAdventures 7 лет назад +1

    240v hookup is good for having a battery charger fitted so while your using 12v I.e lights etc it's charging the leisure battery as you go save you having to start the van now and then,plug go to run stuff like a heater(stop condensation in the van or awning)or anything else that runs 240

      Great answer @Wolfburg T5 :)

    • @christoffer1973
      @christoffer1973 7 лет назад

      Great if you have a controler that can take 240V, sun and alternator (when car running) Then the controller charge main battery and the batteries in the back. Those are expensive but they ceep an eye on the batteries and make all bateries in good condition... I ordered my T6 now.. 203PS - DSG.. Looking forward to build.
      Sorry for my BAD English writing here..

      @GDubcampers Do you have a name of a good charge controler? AC to DC and DC to DC controller.. I don't know the right name in English.

    Nice work.and video .. I prefer to have it outside though not bothered about the hook up plate being visible

  • @kristiancdf
    @kristiancdf 7 лет назад +1

    Random question. Why do u need 240v if
    u have 12v dc leisure battery fitted? If I'm away for the weekend, the most I'll need is to charge phones, maybe convert into a laptop.

    • @GDUBTV
      @GDUBTV  7 лет назад +3

      The mains electric is so I can plug in things should I need to, even though I'm unlikely to (like perhaps a games console, a tv, an oil radiator in winter) - I did wonder about whether to bother as I'm much the same as you, minimal usage over weekends, probably just charging phones/tablets. In previous campers I've had a minas electric fridge which I need the 240v for but the current one is 12v only.

    G D very helpful video running power cable via open window work, how did you stop rain coming in??

    • @GDUBTV
      @GDUBTV  5 лет назад +1

      I've got Heko wind deflectors fitted so the cable goes under there into the van without any water ingress quite comfortably

      Thanks for the comments! Been checking out your instagram, coming on nicely (and quickly!). I had it booked in for a pop-top with Skylie but then had a few unexpected bills so decided to cancel. Shame as was looking forward to it for the summer! Prob won't do one on this van now... likely sell it in September once finished!

    Can’t see why you’d run 240v entire length of van unprotected? Your input needs to be close to your consumer/RCD as possible. Fit inside at rear if you don’t want outside and suss out how to plug in without trapping wire...

      @GDUBTV  3 года назад +1

      Hey mate, this was a few years ago now. My first conversion too. Wouldn’t do it the same again.

      lol, indeed I did - You must have been 1 of the lucky 100 people to have seen the original. It got flagged up quick by a helpful viewer that I'd fitted the wrong type of connector. I immediately pulled the original video. Ordered the right part, fitted it, added the extra clips into the original video and just re-uploaded. Sorry you had to suffer it twice!!! :)

    Mate your hook up is too far from your consumer unit, you have an entire van length of unprotected 240v cable, stuffed around sharp edges, none of it in conduit, if that developed a fault/break you risk your whole van becoming live! The consumer unit only protects down stream!

    • @GDUBTV
      @GDUBTV  3 года назад

      Thanks for the heads up mate, I’ve long since sold the van, but will get it back to put some conduit around it 👊🏼
