    Wow 25 years of teaching and a graduate of music school and no one ever explained this to me with such precision and simplicity. I was always able to feel it but now a way clearer explanation you've given me to pass along to my students! Thanks Jim!!!!

    Thanks for this. Is there a difference between 3/4 time and quarter note triplets?

    • @JimClarkSaxophonist
      @JimClarkSaxophonist  2 года назад +1

      Yes there's a difference. 3/4 time has 3 beats every measure. Quarter note triplet are 3 notes of equal value played over 2 beats. So you could play three quarter note triplets in 3/4 time and have 1 beat left over!

  • @richardjones2811

    That's a more complex way to do it, as a guitarist I like things as simple as possible!
    A quarter note is 2 eighth notes so you basically play the first eighth note, miss the second and that's your first quarter note of the triplet done.
    Do this 3 times and that's the triplet done in perfect timing 😁

      incase ur talking about time signature
      3 notes grouped = 2 beats
      in the practice ur learning to group together triplet quarters without it being directly on beat
      so you'll play 6 notes (2 triplet groups) 2+2=4
