- SISSEL performed this song "Bred Dina Vida Vingar (spread your large wings)", also known as "The Holy Wings", at the occasion of a TV CONCERT which was filmed in the FAROE Islands during spring and summer 1990 and was released on TV in 1991. Sissel was in her early twenties at that time but was already a well-known singer, especially in Norway and in Bergen, her hometown. The orchestra is directed by Per Egil HOVLAND.
The TV program (produced by Stageway) lasted about 70 minutes and was made of two parts. The first one, called "Med Sissel til Kirkjubø*", was filmed partially outdoors in various places of interest of the Faroe Islands, and also indoors, in the concert hall of the Nordic House in Tórshavn. * Kirkjubø is the old cultural and spiritual centre of the Faroes, with the St. Olav's church (12th century) , the oldest church in the Faroes still in use, and the ruins of St. Magnus Cathedral (about 1300). The second part of the program was called "Sissel i Christianskirkjuni". It is a church concert filmed in "Christianschurch", in Klaksvik.
Sissel performance was never released in any album or DVD later on, and to my knowledge, only very few recordings of the concert still exist today.
I already posted in 2007 several videos of this Sissel's TV concert, including one of this song (see: Sissel Kyrkjebo, 1991, Bred Dina Vida Vingar). This new version is of a much better quality and includes now the Lyrics.
I hope you will ENJOY IT !

Lyrics were written in 1860 by Karolina Wilhelmina Sandell-Berg (1832-1903), a famous Swedish writter of religious Hymns, and published in 1865. The origin of the melody is still uncertain. The most known translation of the song in English is from Ernest E. Ryden.
Lyrics:
Bred dina vida vingar,
o Jesus, över mig,
och låt mig stilla vila
i ve och väl hos dig.
Bliv du min ro, min starkhet,
min visdom och mitt råd,
och låt mig alla dagar
få leva av din nåd.
Förlåt mig alla synder
och två mig i ditt blod.
Giv mig ett heligt sinne,
en vilja ny och god.
Tag i din vård och hägnad
oss alla, stora, små,
och låt i frid oss åter
till nattens vila gå.
Lyrics (translation):
The holy wings, dear Savior, spread gently over me;
And thru the long night watches, I'll rest secure in Thee.
Whatever may betide me, be Thou my hiding place,
And let me live and labor, each Day, Lord, by Thy grace.
Thy pardon, Savior, grant me, and cleanse me in Thy blood!
Give me a willing spirit, a heart both clean and good.
O take into Thy keeping, Thy children, great and small,
And while we sweetly slumber, enfold us, one and all!
HISTORY / TECHNICAL Information:
In addition to the songs, the TV program was showing some very nice views of the Faroes Islands landscape. The concert was recorded in 1991 by a friend of mine from Bergen. The "old " VHS tape was digitized this time using the "Terratec G3" device. The .avi file was then filtered with "Virtualdub" (the NeatVideo filter performed very well) and colors adjusted. Finally, the video was edited and produced using the PowerDirector10 movie software.
So young. So beautiful. So talented and with an incredible future ahead of her. Thanks for sharing such a rare Sissel moment.
The high registers are just stunning and leave one wondering what is not possible

Merci beaucoup from Finland! You have done a splendid effort in remastering this TV-program from Sissel´s youth for us to enjoy. Sissel is always a treat :-)
Incredible.
Thank you very much for this song. It's superb.
Thank you for presenting this!
extremely beautiful
many female singers are discribed as having the voice of an angle, well, Sissel is the Angle!
Angel!
Sublime. Why haven't I heard this before?
I know. In 1991 I was raising a family and caught up in all the mendacity of life unaware that this beauty was happening. I owe so much to her introducing this wonderful music to me.
Ett av Norges bästa bidrg till mänskligheten!
ABSOLUTELY BEAUTIFUL.
These moments make living worth call living...in the other few years of mere existence.
I wish i could talk to the thumbs down people to find out just what they don't like about this.
they are probably jealous of her
There are thumbs-down people everywhere.
That C6 is the bomb diggity
The most beautiful version of this hymn ever. Wish somebody could improve the sound a bit. (Enchanted)

Luthien Tenuviel. Elvish for nightingale. Sissel is the real nightingale.
davidkasquare mer nordisk går det knapt an å få! :-)
folkmelodi?
Fint😇

manuel serrano I think she voiced the little mermaid in Norway but I could be wrong- I know she did do the vocals for the titanic movie
She was the singing voice of Ariel from Disney's the little mermaid, in both Norwegian, Swedish and Danish.
