    The horror of this SCP, the endless conveyor belt of gruesome individual deaths, is so totally different from most of the threats offered by the archive. It's a lot of different types of horror all at once; body horror, psychological horror, but most of all, bureaucratic horror.
    Imagine just living your life and then suddenly you're descended upon by a militarized task force that refuses to identify itself, you're immediately plucked from whatever drama and relationships you had, your life dead stopped to nothing, all your concerns now amounting to zero as you are shoved into a BIOHAZARD containment cell.
    No one will tell you what's happening, and then, the sores. Those first rashes. The slow total loss of sanity as scientists watch the person you were amount to nothing, thanks to what appears to be random chance.
    It's just so ugly. Powerful stuff.

      it comes from the era just after 9/11 when the government made the patriot act. that simple act may well have inspired huge numbers of early SCPs as well as the Foundation's general character. People were afraid that it would lead to innocent people spouting off their mouths going to jail, clear violation of their first amendment rights. I remember I was in highschool when 9/11 happened, my journalism teacher the following year explained to us just why the patriot act was so dangerous to our rights. It also violates 2 of our most sacred amendments, the first and fourth. Free speech and protection from unlawful search and seizure by the government. Amusingly, it's also something that in a broken masquerade scenario, would likely lead to massive numbers of lawsuits and FOIA requests, demanding to know what was done by the government and what was done by the foundation.

    Kinda weird how this is not a Keter SCP, I guess the foundation is confident enough of their speed to get to the next instance before another major event happens. But nonetheless, this is an interesting SCP 👍

    • @nibblrrr7124
      @nibblrrr7124 3 года назад +60

      I was wondering the same. In addition to what you said, I guess the scary spontaneous infection at a distance (i.e. not through the bacteria) doesn't increase the number of infected - it's always just one new SCP-1068-1 instance, after the previous has died. It doesn't spread exponentially through that vector.

      @Command908 3 года назад +27

      @@aaroniscool7521 Actually I guess putting it that way, makes a bit more sense, it cannot be properly contained from going to a new victim but the instances can be properly contained in order to prevent massive outbreaks from happening. • @aaroniscool7521

      @@Command908 fair but it's more accurate to say it's a Euclid. Since it infects one instance of a person instead of many like The Flesh that hates does and you could use The Flesh that hates as a prime example of a proper Keter class. I also remember this now funny enough but Scps that also can't be properly explained and contained are given the keter class such as like the Scarlet King as well as very dangerous Scps along those lines. Personally speaking however I like the X class event causing Scps. Those fuckers have the power to end the world

    Fun fact: The blob incident still isn't exactly solved, but as a zoologist with a microbiology background, I CAN tell you some interesting and unreported stuff about this case. It's a long one, so strap in:
    The bacteria found within the blobs are very particular types often used in combatting agricultural pests, particularly of the plant variety: enterobacter cloacae, and pseudomonas fluorescens. No, it's not e. Coli like many sources claim. Enterobacter is a genus, not a species, people claiming it to be e. Coli probably just assume all enterobacter mean the same thing. All enterobacter species do occur in mammalian guts including humans however, hence the "enterobacter" part of the name - literally, intestinal bacteria, but they are not exclusively found there. They can also occur in freshwater environments and in some soils. The second bacteria species, pseudomonas fluorescens, tells you about it in its name as well; it does indeed fluoresce, so its inclusion may simply be to easily track the spots where the bacteria were spread. The "goo" could very much be the agar substrate used to culture the two bacterial strains. Without any other evidence, it's hard to say.
    "But that still doesn't explain why it was dumped on the town multiple times over a period of days, or why there was also human leucocytes found within the sample!" Yes. However, I will say that the leucocytes found could have been contaminate by the woman who collected it, which do occur in our epithelial cells. Other samples collected by actual professionals who are versed in proper specimen collection protocol did not contain any such material. Again, the majority of "news" sources covering the incident fail to mention that, because we live in an unfortunate age where sensationalism is a higher priority than factual reporting.
    My best guess is that the US Department of Agriculture may have been conducting experiments to test the effectiveness of some new dusting/dispersal methods to control agricultural diseases, but either made a big oopsie and dusted the wrong area, or perhaps more darkly, chose the town deliberately to see what effect the bacteria would have on an average human population. I think the latter is a bit tin foil hatty, but sadly, the former sounds like exactly the type of thing a government body would do. And of course, upon discovering their mistake, would never ever admit to what they were doing or risk embarrassing themselves.
    So, there you have it, that's one scientist's take, given the data available.

The best that could be done is to maintain numbers, continue a single stream of infected individuals and don't let them infect anyone else before they're culled and deal with the new instance that spawns- a linear process on the condition it is handled well.

What if the name of the persone is someone from an indigenous tribe somewhere in one of the many jungle on earth someone who have never been in any census. What if the name given is the birth name of someone who changed name. Remember the disease act in a matter of hours. How do you expect the foundation to do the whole detective work to find someone who can be literaly anywhere on the planet at any given time in mere hours when it generaly take month if not years for the police. Then you need to find the victim which might be away from home in vacation or jogging through the woods or maybe even at the park having a picknick and by the time the foundation make their investigation, find who's targeted, find where that persone live, find where that persone is presently by asking friends and what not, and then move the entire response team with the hazmate suite and shit... This is just not containable in any way.

      @@mandrac2 Actually, I assumed the infected gives you the current location of the victim instead of where they live permanently.
      Also even if they are in some isolated area, it is not mentioned it the infection is immediately after the prediction is made so they may have some time before containment is even necessary.
      Also remember that the foundation routinely deals with eldrich entities, has the literal god (343) in containment and if push comes to shove can just use the universe ending dog SCP (don't remember the number) to gamble the chance to destroy the SCP and that's assuming the thirteen can't do it.
      I'm not saying it is universally easy, but relatively it is. Also, we know they already can destroy the bacteria if they want, they already did it with the village otherwise there would be multiple new instances as every person could infect a random person throughout the planet but the entry says only one SCP instance exists at once, so they already can destroy it, they are choosing to keep it around for testing.

      it def should be keter since every infected entity will spontaneously infect one other and the more there are the harder it will be to contain, for example if there are 5 cases, they will create 5 more while also being infectious themselves(then the new 5 infected will create 5 more and so on forever) any and all spread of this bacteria is permanent and according to population growth statistics, if it gets over around 385k cases a day, xk class scenario is imminent. this is very plausible since there is clearly a limit to foundation resources on locating and containing subjects within 6 hours. if there are given 10k infected patients in the world then that means that the scp foundation has to contain 10 thousand people every so 29 hours (the length of the infection if i am correct) and that is virtually impossible in my eyes.

      @salicaguillotines Год назад

      @@mandrac2 the foundation has dealt with entities that make this one look like a cakewalk. It's all relative, they're just all good at their jobs as long as there's no containment breaches. This one could go either way but so many entities are labelled keter and are said to be nigh impossible to contain but could easily be Euclid and contained with better writing. This one was well done and keeps a person on their toes and ultimately feel like while it can be contained, really shows the very real concerns, allows for a diverse ranges of tests that could determine these properties. I'm sure the author had their reasons other than that as well for classifying the object the way they did.

    If given enough time, an infected 1086-1 will utter the coordinates of someone else infected, but the infection takes 6 hours to occur. Can't the foundation simply terminate the designated person who's not yet infected to prevent the spread?
    Also, the infection is "lost". I bet it is looking for someone

    • @salicaguillotines
      @salicaguillotines Год назад

      Can't the foundation simply unlock a spacial anomaly where everyone except for the infected are able to comprehend the new navigation system?
      Alternatively, what if the infected instance is searching for coordinates that don't exist? We know if the infected instance walks into SCP-3930, it will simply cease to exist but would it still create a new instance elsewhere? This would be interesting to see as it goes against everything we know about the place that doesn't exist. What happens if they were running this alongside a 3930 test where an infected instance utter the coordinates to the building that doesn't exist, would the D-class that doesn't exist anymore (that's communicating to a different person via radio) be affected by this infection?
      As long as the D-class is being perceived by someone who exists, they won't vanish into the nothingness. Culling an infected case would be easy enough to do if the foundation somehow able to lure the infected instance into 3939 and simply make them vanish by ensuring all researchers no longer perceive the instance anymore and the case will become one with the surrounding nothingness.
      Would a D-class for example able to get infected based on perception alone or would nothing happen because those coordinates don't exist? As long as someone is continuously perceiving the D-class, they'll be fine (they just don't exist anymore). Does this infection work based on perception and would it simply cease to exist altogether if we able to simply wipe it from existence using this trick?

      I think keter is defined as scps that actively attempt to break containment or can not be contained. This scp gives the location of the next infection, it is actively working towards it’s own containment, not against it. But you could certainly make a case for Keter or Euclid.

    • @JerichoDeath
      @JerichoDeath 3 года назад +11

      I think that's probably more a severity or danger level thing. The containment itself isn't crazy hard, and infected individuals don't actively attempt to infect others or escape containment. You just have to be really careful with hazmat to avoid unnecessary infection. I think the biggest aspect that puts this on the edge of Euclid is the spontaneous infection after stage 3.
