Heard this when I was 21, 60 years ago. This fellow breathes life into the music, brings it closer to me, a lowly commoner living on a reserve in Saskatchewan, Canada.
Nigel Kennedy is a musical genius. He brings so much passion, joie de vivre and individuality to this beautiful music - and plays it all from memory - truly fantastic.
Many years ago, in Australia, I had the great pleasure to meet him. Charming, sweet, gracious. Thankful that I have lived to enjoy his beautiful 'fiddle' playing.
Yes, he’s good , but Janine Jansen just knocks him right out of the ring. I have a feeling that Mr. Kennedy’s done a bit of fiddling about with the score. (Intentional bad pun. Couldn’t resist it)
@@dunnedigby4957 What does it mean "Jansen just knocks him right out of the ring" in the context of music (art)? Music is not a competition. Music is mutual inspiration. I saw a lot such comments when people, for example, discussed if Bach was "better" than Beethoven or Jimmi Hendrix was "better" than Stevie Rai Vaughan? What does it mean: better? Technically Stevie was better than Hendrix but technique is one aspect only of music. One day I listen to Chopin but another I prefer Mozart, Komeda, Miles Davies or David Bowie - it depends on mood. And I do appreciate all of them.
@@ryszardfortuna2063 I’m comparing a PERFORMANCE with a PERFORMANCE of the SAME item. You’re comparing a PERSON expert in one musical genre with A DIFFERENT PERSON in a different genre. As this could develop into a crazy argument where everyone’s lost the plot, that’s all I’m saying.
Nigle's Vivaldi keeps all souls at peace I feel like surrounded by nice cool breeze near a very quiet place but listening to his relics and bird sound at the river bank.
Very rarely the soloist and orchestra do a symbiosis on the most highest musical and technical level. This recording is a unique testimony of such a case.Thank you for uploading it.
Yes wonderfull music and nigel plays it wonderfullly I used to have him on cd and listened to it now and again. In my mind this is how ots supposed to be played
Despite what our learned music snobs say, Vivaldi would have approved of Nigel Kennedy's interpretation. You can just feel it. Somehow there is a connection that spans the centuries.
he's playing it as written and as the piece clearly dictates. why wouldn't vivaldi approve? and how many "learned music snobs" are really saying vivaldi wouldn't have approved?
The Music snobs when Vivaldi was alive didn't even know who he was, he was a random school music teacher, so funny how the snobbery class take ownership of things
I was given a cassette tape of this when i turned 13 as the present from my family. Treasured it and stretched that cassette tape from listening. Then bought the CD. Nothing like it. Still love it at 50.
I am overwhelmed by emotions while listing to those tracks. It remains me the time when I was a child, I was sitting down with my grandma in the kitchen next to the Hi-Fi system she had listening to this masterpiece! Unfortunately my grandma went up to the sky more than a decade ago and I miss her. Love you Grandma! Thanks a milion for sharing Warner Classics!
Vivaldi was an impressionist. This is the only performance that suggests the performers knew it, everyone else always tries to play Vivaldi like he's Bach when he's not.
I know exactly what you mean. It is so bittersweet. Just the 80s feel of it (the unison dark glasses!), is enough to bring a tear to the eye - overjoyed to have witnessed it at the time but so sad that it is also now long gone.
Have loved Nigel's playing since he first released it. It is my go to version & Vilvaldi 4s lifts one's spirits, no matter your mood. Masterpiece played by a passionate soul who has progressed beyond technical competency.
NK Rocks. While most all symphonic performances are basically tribute cover bands, NK justifies contemporary performance of classical repertoire. Completely original. Fall cadenza/intro sublime
I had the cassette as a teen. I already loved classical, but that tape/this music is burnt into my memory. I went to a quartet on the weekend who played this and it was amazing.
I haven't come across this video recording before. 1989! he looks like a baby:D Now that I've read the info from Warner (above) I see that this recording changed the classical music 'stuffy' world, the change brought about by Nigel Kennedy's energy, vitality, and his charisma that always brings the musicians with him. Enchanting, demanding and fulfilling.
Einfach wunderbar. Mach bitte weiter so . Hochachtungsvoll, ein Fan aus Deutschland.
Back in the day I went to Blenheim Palace to watch a concert of the four seasons staged by the Daily Mail, performed in full period costume, it was absolutely fantastic, beautiful music, beautiful costumes and a stunningly beautiful setting, also beautiful company who will go unnamed.
I took my violinist daughter to Sheffield City Hall, to witness Nigel's performance of Walton's Violin Concerto, which he performed exquisitely with closed eyes throughout. It must have been around 1989-90. A brilliant performance. Played on the Guaniri del Jesu 'Lord Wilton', once owned (and leant to Nigel) by his mentor, Yehudi Menuhin, which he now owns, having purchased it from Sir Yehudi's estate.
This video keeps getting taken down. It's a shame because it's the best version. It really starts with him being interviewed by marriella fostrup. Idk where the original beginning is
Depuis 20 ans je l'écoute et il met la barre très haute, je ne trouve pas les mots tellement il est bon. On ne peut même plus dire bon, ni talentueux. Il excelle...
I photographed him for a magazine years ago in the car park of the recording studio in Box. Great friendly character. He had hand painted his BMW in the Aston Villa Football Club colours and stood on top of it for the picture.
He looks like a young Tom Hardy. I remember still how his look was considered shocking at the time, and I loved it and was amazed at his seemingly nonchalant way of playing but is in fact absolute brilliance!
I used the have his cd's and listened to them often on my realy expensive home stereo now I only have a youtube and basic headphones but it brings me back to those days
Many years ago, when his local pub in Malvern burnt down, NK did a fundraiser at the church. After beginning with a couple of contemporary pieces, he said, "Right, that's enough of those modern composers, now it's time for a dead one" 😂😂

Whilst I've been listening to this I have been criticising Niegel's playing and shaking my head in disbelief. I thought he was just playing far too slowly. I then realized I'd been playing the video at 0.75 speed. I'd forgotten to turn the speed back to normal after previously watching another video at a slower speed because the person in the video was talking far too fast. At the normal speed Nigel plays beautifully. Hopefully I won't make that mistake again. Just wish some people wouldn't speak so fast.
