i wonder if spotlights will become a bigger part of night time combat, could make the soviet faction king of night-time fighting if they improve spotlights, they could even make other spotlights controllable (UAZ, MI-8)
Iirc they said at some point they’d like for players to be able to shut down the power grid. Perhaps this a lead up to the possibility of complete darkness. Though I still wouldn’t use it, flashlights sign away your death (although I think they want to add red ones, though those are still almost just as visible)
Reforgers approach to vehicles is fantastic, where other games it feels like you BECOME the tank, this game truly feels like you are a crew INSIDE a tin can, especially when you play first person only. I hope we get this quality in A4, with a full content package at release
I really don't like that the prisms in the BTR and BRDM are still not functional (same for rear view mirrors btw) and that you HAVE to open that hatch to look out - only straight to the front. You can't even put your face closer to that windshield, which I would assume you would do if the view was limited like that. It's one reason many just use third person when in a vehicle, because the way it's implemented you can't see crap.
Yea it bothers me too. But judging from what we have seen until now, they probably are working on a cool new framework for periscopes and optics, for vehicles, that's why they don't waste time adding placeholder functions. But this is only my assumption.
@@JakeWilliams-c4j Not sure which Reforger you are playing, but they are not, not even in experimental. In the BTR not even the Commander's optics are working
In RL you can drive them into a water and swim accross. Jus open the prop hatch at the back and egage it. Can be done without leaving the vehicle. Same for BTR and BMPs
@caracal3892 they only require maintenance, that includes all thechnical hatches to be shut tight and right things oiled and stuff like that. There is a good channel полигон98 that has BRDM-2, BTR and now BMP-2 in their possesion and they take them out for a spin on the water once in a while, check it out. It's in Russian though
This game really is spectacular. It has improved so very much since I bought it day 1 and found myself quite disappointed. BI are putting a lot of thought & time into Reforger and I suspect that doing so is gaining them a great deal of valuable experience with building an Arma game on Enfusion (ahead of Arma 4). I wonder how many Reforger devs will end up working on A4
@@iAWP- well BI has stated that they rotate teams to work on projects. When dealing with an issue or a update. They got a big company, I just always refer back to the release of Arma 3. I honestly cant wait for them to add more armored vehicles like tanks and IFVs, though it wouldnt really make all that much sense considering Arland is kind of like an Island.
I think it would either come with the LAV and BRDM at Christmas as like a half update, like 1.2.2 or they would release the full version being 1.3 in maybe late January or February. If not that then never 😂
My guess is they released experimental right away the playstation release to raise the interest in the game again, after there not being a patch with big features for a few months. I think they will release it sometime in January. They probably won't do it near christmas because of possible bugs. They have every incentive to hurry with getting this stuff into stable because it would greatly boost player numbers with all the new stuff in the patch.
Just a heads up, but your vid about the animations doesn’t make sense. The footage you showed from Arma 3 was using mods, not stuff made by Bohemia. We have a massive improvement with animations in Reforger as well. Also in Arma 3 the mortars give a lot less information in to sight
There are still placeholders and a couple of things missing. I couldn't figure any way to fuel up the BRDM for example. So either I'm too stupid to find it or that is missing. :D
I wonder if they improved the btr-70’s amphibious animation because when you drive it in water none of the amphibious components deploy such as the propeller and the front face bit
The vehicle is really cool but "useless" at the moment because its not possible to refuel it. We captured 3 of these in one round and the fuel was already low. It also spawns with like 1/4 of the fuel...
@@TheJonas2104 … if you don’t build a fuel depot at a capture point. The fuel depot’s main purpose, other than point refueling for vehicles and jerrycans, has a global effect on all spawned vehicles to auto-fill their tank to 75%. Unless you’re saying the fuel depot has no effect on the BRDM right now…
So I understand that the Americans are supposed to get the LAV to combat the BRDM however, the HUMVEE itself is still not a very good combat to the BTR. The LAV and BRDM make sense as being equals... but the HUMVEE and BTR is just a joke. At least give the HUMVEE a turret, they had those in Operation Just Cause.
The BTR-70 and BRDM-2 have identical weapons. Also the Humvee with a M2 .50 can take out BTR-70 and BRDM-2. It is just that the protection of the humvee is lower. However as far as weapons goes every vehicle with a gun larger or the same as .50 caliber can destroy any other vehicle.
There are a few key differences on HUMVEE vs. BTR/BRDM. HUMVEEs (the armored variant). Both have armor that can withstand small arms fire pretty well, one has to note though that the side windows in the HUMVEE will not protect much, the front windows do. The new 7.62 AP rounds will penetrate the front windows and door armor though (at least at close range). Still the BTR/BRDM armor is thicker. As for weapons I would classify HUMVEEs as suited for close/medium range with the .50 without optics. They have much more peripheral awareness. BTR/BRDM are more med/long range vehicles due to the optics of the gunner, which extremely limit what you can hit say below 50m unless you are pointing straight at it. Also peripheral awareness is near zero (maybe until they fix / implement the prisms) That said the vehicles are not meant to be balanced and stand an open fight against each other. As always it's more about who is seen first, who hits first. .50 cal will make Swiss cheese out of any armored soviet vehicle. One could say the new LAV will close the gap a little, as it's (in the context of Reforger) less a scout vehicle, but the most heavily armored vehicle the US will have available.
I think saying BTR=Humvee and BRDM=LAV is ridiculous. BTR and LAV both carry what...6? troops in addition to crew. BRDM and Humvee carry what...3/5 respectively? Those are your peers. I think they should put an M60 on the Jeep as a counterpart to the armed UAZ, Humvees match against BRDM, LAV against BTR (though the 25mm is clearly better than the KPVT) The "fastback" Humvees in the game are not armored either, at least IRL. That shell is sheet metal and fiberglass.
The control for gunner is animated now. Cool
You mean the handcranking? That has been in the BTR-70 already.
@caracal3892 yes but in 1.2.1 its not animated yet

the rear flap and trim vane being animated when in water is great, would be cool if it was a manual interaction though
