My favorite Wii game is Super Mario Galaxy… I love the spacey and lonely atmosphere, it’s such a unique direction for the series! Also has one of the best soundtracks ever made. Super fun memories of picking that up with my older brother on launch night, bringing it back home and having our minds blown
How could you say that when fling Smash exists!?
I absolutely agree, super Mario Galaxy has one of the best ost I've ever heard, and the fact that it's a game in space makes it even better as well as the feel of the ost
@@AdachiTrevelyan006 Smash definitely has a super impressive set of tracks too! I love hearing different takes on familiar songs, it’s so interesting to hear how different songs are interpreted
i don't play that game but it's my favorite too
Super Mario Galaxy was my first videogame, probably my favorite Super Mario. I truly loved it
Kazumi Totaka has got to have one of the greatest resumes in the business. “You remember all that iconic and beloved Wii music? I wrote that. Oh… and also I’m the voice of Yoshi”.
Right!? It’s an absolutely insane track record
*Gigachad GIF starts playing. 🗿*
As a Nintendo kid, thanks for looking into their music, I really enjoy your essays.
Nintendo kids forever 🙏 it was super fun to go back to this era of their history! thanks for the love!
The DSi shop channel is also a banger
Ohh that’s a good one too!
Fax! I love it more than wii shop
WHY DOES THIS ONLY HAVE 74 VIEWS?!?!? THIS IS AMAZING!
Haha, it’s almost double that now, goodness! Thanks for the love!
7k now. 🎉

its not amazing by any stretch, its a bunch of surface level observations
I feel like a lot of the new games soundtracks on switch make up for the lack of music on the home screen (ie; Splatoon, Mario games, Pikmin 4, etc)
Great video! While researching the meaning of "frutiger aero", I stumbled upon this video about the same kind of music. Who knew Kozumi Tokaka was behind all of it!
Thank you so much! I’ve only recently learned what frutiger aero is, and I guess Wii era music kinda fits into it? Interesting stuff haha
wait wtf, i thought this was an already an established channel, what a weirdly high quality video i've just stumbled upon
Nope we’re just getting started haha! Thanks for the love!

I saw Metroid Prime Remastered as the first game on the homescreen and temporarily thought you might have screenshotted my Switch.
Haha! It’s a super well-done remaster, I hope we get 2 and 3 soon
Good analysis, and I've never thought that Nintendo's OSTs aren't afraid of being "silly" and experimental. Although they stepped down from music choices on the Switch menu, I'd say they still manages to keep their core values when it comes to their games' OST, especially with Splatoon (not only the game uses the OST to expand on the lore, but isn't afraid to go really experimental or even completely breaking music theory when needed). So even if the Switch's successor ends up having quiet screens, I think Nintendo will keep with their goofy, comforting and amazing ways of making music in their games (but let's hope they think on how the Mii Channel music is such a staple on the internet and they come up with new tunes even for the most unexpected screens)
Totally agree! I never got super into Splatoon, but I grew up on punk and alternative music, so I LOVE everything about it’s aesthetic and how it handles music!!
The pokemon rumble demo on the wii home menu is so nostalgic.
Great video! Was genuinely confused why you had so few subscribers, and checked if my RUclips app was somehow bugged. Good work, definitely deserves more eyeballs on it!
Thank you so much! Just getting started over in my little corner of RUclips, but my stuff seems to be finding it’s way lately to the people who’d want to see it :) thanks for the love
my favourite wii game- no- favourite game is wii sports resort. the vibe is immaculate and (in my experience) they completely fixed the motion controls. its also super fun and i still play it when friends or family come over.
Wii Sports Resort is awesome, I’ve been playing that one a lot lately! Burback has a really cool retrospective on it that I highly recommend if you haven’t seen it
What’s your favorite mini game on Wii Sports Resort?
@matthewdotwav my favourite game is 100% island flyover. I played it heaps as a kid and I still play it for a while now, and somehow I've memorised nearly every i-point lmao
side note: id probably enjoy Dogfight a lot more if I wasn't too good at it for my own fun. like not trying to flex but I beat my (game-playing) friend nearly every time in Dogfight and it's not that fun because there's no challenge 😭
This was an incredible video. Keep it up man!
Thank you thank you, that is the plan!
i loved this video so much!! keep up the good work!!!
Thank you so much, I’ll try my best!!
totaka appreciation!!! love to see it
I would love a follow up to this vid where you dive like... way deeper and cover the entire catalogue of "nintendo music"!
That’d be fun! I mentioned to someone else who proposed something similar.. I’d love to revisit a song or a game or a topic if I feel like I had more to add!
If I did make more like this honing in on specific games or series, what would you like to hear about?
My favorite part Wii game is a tie between Animal Crossing: Let’s go to the City and Wii Sports
I haven’t played ARMS or Snipperclips in years but I love their OSTs. Snipperclips definitely has that funky sound.
Great picks! I’ve spent a lot of time in Animal Crossing
Snipperclips OST is awesome; bo en did the music for that and pretty much all his music sounds just as fun and strange, he definitely understood the assignment!
They should really get more goofy again
also Super Paper Mario
Super Paper Mario is a banger, really under-appreciated game
Dude you've put in quite a lot of effort and the algorithm still hasn't snagged you up, I think it's only a matter of time
I think so too; my subscriber count doubled today, and this video is doing way better than any of my other ones - kinda crazy! Thanks for the love
This video is very cool
Thank you, glad you enjoyed it!
While Pikmin has some quirky music, Paper Mario has continued to keep its quirky music. Even in the Origami King, with a lot of instrumental and rock music, the music it’s still quirky and memorable. Disco Devil is a _personal_ favorite.
Oh I hadn’t even thought about Paper Mario’s music! Super Paper Mario was the last one I played, but I’ve heard good things about Origami King so I might have to give it a go
Just listened to Disco Devil and it sounds really really cool, I’m a fan!
Yeah, PM music is great! I hope you become a great channel!
Some of my favorite games:
Mario Kart Wii, Wii Sports Resort and Sonic & Sega All-stars Racing, baby !
All fantastic picks! Sonic racing is super underrated
Great vid!
Thank you!!
nintendo kid here and the wii was my childhood game console, my top 3 games would probably be smash brawl, galaxy 2, and donkey kong country returns
Ooo those are all rock-solid picks! Lots of fond memories of Brawl, definitely go have to revisit these sometime soon!
I had the same feeling of "Man, «Nintendo music» is so iconic and charmingly wacky, but what makes «Nintendo music» «Nintendo music»?" since I was re-hearing Miitopia's OST. I love seeing I'm not alone!
Heck yeah! There’s just some thing about it, glad I could shed some light on it!
Great job!

And just great and iconic
Came back to this video again and I am shocked it didn't blow up to be one of those 800k+ viewed videos. It's a really impressive analysis that deserves more attention.
Ah thanks for coming back! It’s steadily going up for sure, but I don’t think it’ll pull those numbers without it going viral outside RUclips or something… and I’m ok with that! I’m quite pleased with how it’s done so far - 18k views is nothing to sneeze at and it hasn’t slowed down really, and a lot of people watched this and subscribed, which has been boosting my other videos too :) I’m very grateful for the love it has gotten!
SUBBED! underrated video :D
Ahh thank you so much!!

This is a great video, keep this coming man, I love Nintendo music so much, everyone analyzes it by game but I feel it needs more focus as a whole, Nintendo knows how to make great music
thank you, will do! i love music and game audio, i’m excited to keep talking about it on here :)
Charm is definitely the word I think of. In the sillier tunes you mention, the music is charming in that it is almost there as a notice to the player, "yep, this is goofy, and we know it." The Mii creator music was so perfect when my family was creating our Miis back in the day. We'd put on a weird nose or smile and laugh out loud, and that music went so well with it all. I'll also say, while the more "serious" games have more orchestral soundtracks, I think they're doing a good job of each game having their signature. For instance, AC:NH, with the trumpet and acoustic guitar. Tears of the Kingdom, with the reversed vocals that play in so many tracks and cutscenes. Nintendo knows how important music is and I'm grateful that their crew is so dedicated to it. Great video.
Thank you so much! Sounds like a lovely memory of the Mii Channel!
I think it’s a sign of really good audio direction that they place so much emphasis on certain instruments to give each soundtrack it’s own feel, like the examples you mentioned! Scruffy has a really good video on how TOTK does that so well
kazumi totaka is seriously the goat, this made me realize just how iconic his music is and i truly believe now that his work has been instrumental to nintendo's identity! also all throughout this video i was hoping you would mention Malo Mart from Twilight Princess for some reason hahaha
he really is awesome! hugely influential to Nintendo’s musical identity and he doesn’t get that recognition
Malo Mart truly is the silliest Zelda song, I just had to throw it in over the ending hehe
@matthewdotwav OMG i wrote that comment without even watching the very end, thats amazing you actually did put malo mart in 😭👌
snuck it right in 😉
Watching these kinds of videos gives me my fill of having a friend who is as interested in Nintendo/Nintendo games as I am, since none of my friends like Nintendo. Thank you, love the video!
Glad I could provide that! Thanks for the love!
The Wii U had a whole slew of eShop themes and they were all solid.
You’re right, now that you mention it! I didn’t use the Wii U’s eShop a whole lot; I opted more for physical games
Damn this vid is a banger definitely subbing
Thank you!
This is such a great video! Glad to see that from the looks of the comments it’s gained a lot of traction! Can’t wait to see what you make next!
Yeah it’s kinda nuts, really really wasn’t expecting it! Thanks for the kind words!

My favourite Wii game is and will always be Mario Kart Wii! Its gameplay and soundtrack are very nostalgic to me 😃
Loooove Mario Kart Wii, I’ve been playing it a lot lately! Super good game
You deserve WAY more subscribers! This video is so well edited and I acually thought the subscriber count on your channel froze or something. Subscribed!

Commenting for the algorithm. Nice video! You deserve more subs. I’m sure they’ll come your way soon. And my favourite wii game has got to be Super Mario Galaxy 2!
Thank you so much! They’re definitely rolling in; I had 34 when this video went up!
I need to replay Galaxy 2! I love them both but I think I only ever played 2 once despite really really enjoying it, so I’ll have to revisit it!
@@matthewdotwav Yeah! I grew up with it, so it’s one of my favourites. The soundtrack gives me many nostalgic memories. Funny enough though, I’ve never fully played through the first one haha Yeah you deserve all the subs! Keep up the great work! 💗
To me *Nintendo Music* just brings me back to a simpler time in my life when I was naive to most of the world around me, and that with my fond memories of playing on my 3DS & Wii U
Me too, for me it’s Wii and gamecube! simpler times indeed
Really well made video 👌🏼 I’m composing the music for the indie games I’m about to release and something I’ve noticed about mine which I see now must be inspired by the Nintendo music is how Nintendo uses instruments to replicate/replace singing voices. There is almost always a certain melody or melodies which you can clearly imagine being sung. And because it’s an instrument instead, it just sounds like silly alien language, this is very evident with kk.slider music
Ahh thank you so much! That is one thing I love about Nintendo’s music, it’s cool in that way!
Also, plug your game, I’d love to check it out!
Dude, this video totally needs more views. You perfectly described exactly what a piece of 'Nintendo Music' is. Great work man! 👍👍👍👌👌👌

I think we can all agree: Needs MORE cowbell 🐮🔔
We need Moo Moo Meadows: Cowbell Remix now

Thank you so much!!
The Splatoon games OSTs not being mentioned is a travesty, they are some of the most fun and silly sounding OSTs you can find! Especially when it comes to the single player or salmon run they have so many odd synths or musical choices that make them very silly sometimes.
Ahh I REALLY need to play Splatoon! I kinda fell off multiplayer shooters for a little while, so I’ll have to check it out - especially the single player modes, which I’ve heard great things about
I do love what I’ve heard from the Splatoon soundtrack though!
My favorite Wii game is, easily, Super Mario Galaxy! Such a brilliant game all around, with fantastic level design, a banging soundtrack, and fun secrets to discover! Mario Kart Wii is definitely my favorite game to revisit on Wii, as it has the best track design and music of all the Mario Kart games! 🔥
Totally agree, those are two of my favorites as well! I grew up with Double Dash, personally, but Mario Kart Wii is definitely one of the best
Came to this video at 530 views. Count me a new subscriber, stoked to watch your channel blow up!
goodness, it’s nearly doubled by now! thanks for the love!
I personally think rythm heaven is the physical representation of the "Nintendo art style" perfect lines lots of detail even for little mini games, nintendo is a brand who loves making GOOD games even if its meaningless "Gameplay first, story second"
Ooh Rhythm Heaven is one of my biggest Nintendo gaps, I need to play it! Nintendo does have such a great design ethos: gameplay first, story second. A lot of AAA studios put “story first, gameplay second”, and there’s not really anything wrong with that but it definitely doesn’t always pan out! What Nintendo’s doing is working well for them though, and it makes it that much better when they REALLY cook on the story
nintendo music is definitely its own thing, nostalgia and amazing, timeless melodies all packed into one genre
it really is! it’s unique and instantly identifiable, and they know how to pick composers that understand how to do that
This is such an interesting deep-dive into why a bunch of Nintendo music has that silly charm to it. Nicely done on the video!
Also, Kirby's Return To Dream Land is my favorite Wii game, just putting that out there.
Thank you so much, glad you liked it! Didn’t play Return to Dreamland but I’ve heard great things!
Nintendo Music is probably one of my favorite styles? Genres? (Idk how to define it) of music it’s just so fun and gets me in a good mood also I’m definitely subbing this video was awesome
For sure! I put Nintendo music mixes on while I do stuff around the house, it’s just a blast! Thanks for the sub, it means a lot!
I'd love to see what you think about Sonic music if you're planning to make
Ooh nothing “planned”, but that’s a good idea! Might be a fun one to tackle!
My favorite wii game was wii sports, i know that's a bssic pick but my second favorite was Xenoblade, also you deserve more views
I mean Wii Sports is pretty great, that’s a solid pick! I’ve not played Xenoblade yet but I’ve heard only good things, I’ll get to it someday
Thanks for the love!!

Mario Kart Wii is awesome, I’ve been playing it a lot recently! Definitely one of the best MK games
I love this video, very underrated. I share your thoughts on Nintendo's music exactly. Very well edited, subbed - looking forward to more videos from you
My favorite wii game, and game of all time is Twilight Princess :>
Thank you so much, glad you enjoyed it!
Twilight Princess is an excellent game, I’m long overdue for a replay of it
My favorite Wii game would probably have to be a tie between Rhythm Heaven Fever and Wii Sports Resort. Great video!! :)
Great picks! Haven't played Rhythm Heaven - gotta fix that! Been playing a lot of Wii Sports Resort lately, it's a great chill game :) thanks for the love!
enjoyed this vid a lot ! I enjoyed playing Pokemon battle revolution when I was younger... being able to port my teams over from the handheld games was great (a favorite feature of mine for the stadium games on N64) but honestly the online versus mode is what kept me occupied. I'd spend all day playing random trainers online. I would even go on RUclips or other online forums to see peoples game play to see if I showed up in any of them, or if I would be able to recognize the players while I played! TBH it's hard to find anyone who had a Wii as a child that doesn't have some fond memories of it. amazing console.
Ohh that sounds so interesting! I didn’t play a ton of Pokémon growing up, I might have to check that out because it sounds really fun
clicked because of olimar in thumbnail.
i was not disappointed
Glad I could be of service, thanks for stopping by!
A theme that i think perfectly shows the difference between regular music and "Nintendo music" is Ultra Necrozma from Pokemon. It starts out like you'd expect the theme for a god would go, all formidiable with organs and stuff, but about 40 seconds in it just shifts to something totally unconventional. Like take a bite out of it and it sounds like something from a goofy rival theme, not a beast that literally causes the heat death of the universe (I sure love my power creep), but when you put it all together it just flows so perfectly.
That sounds so interesting! I’ve only dipped my toes into the Pokémon series, I’ll have to check that out
Way to underrated.
Thank you 🙏 just gettin’ started, we’re on the up and up over here!
I'm 19 now, definitely not old enough to have been able to experience the Gamecube Era and the peak of the Wii era, but Nintendo music always sounds so... Nintendo. It's hard to put my finger on it so the way you were able to define it just makes so much sense.
I grew up as a Nintendo kid, despite my parents desperately wanting me to get into Playstation instead, and they always hated how "childish" Nintendo was. I'm still into Nintendo, I mean my profile picture is a Nintendo character, but I think one of the reasons i've stayed a Nintendo fan is because of the bangers Nintendo makes for even the littlest things!! The songs are whimsical and slightly childish, and that's what Nintendo strives to be. It's a family company, of course their music is going to be the way it is.
Totally!! The cool part is now you’ll likely end up with nostalgia for the Switch era - which is an awesome era so far! Nintendo is certainly really unique in how they present themselves and their games, and the music is a HUGE part of that. Glad I could shed some light on it, thanks for the love!
My favorite Wii games to Play with friends were,
Wii Party, Wii Sports and New super Mario bros
Great picks!
HOW do you only have 208 subscribers? I’ll make that 209 at the very least. Amazing, in depth video. I love Nintendo, and a huge part of that is the music.
Haha thanks for jumping aboard!
I'm always in for supporting small RUclipsrs
thank you so much!!
My personal favourite silly track from the Wii era is “Riki, the Legendary Heropon” from Xenoblade Chronicles, you know which it is if I say “crashing the mobile artillery into a house!! How long have you been in the force?!”
Like the soundtrack generally has a more Square Enix type sound, but the Nintendo twists add a lot to the appeal of that track.
Just listened and I love it! I admittedly haven't played the Xenoblade games, but I do love the pieces of the soundtracks I've heard in RUclips mixes and Smash Bros!
Just discovered your channel and it looks very nice just that 2 things that i think could be fixed to make the video feels more readable:
1 : better lighting : pretty self-explanatory i think. (it's kinda odd to see you being in a low lighting room and using bright images, would make this a lot better)
2 : avoiding bland background or using no green screen at all : this would make it feel way better if you don't use background to illustrate your video and if you to show something in big, removing your webcam is a nice idea tho
this is personally opinion,i sincerer thing that your editing skills are amazing tho!
Also my favourite game is a pretty generic one : sujper mario bros wii (i love throwing my littel brothere's character off a cliff)
Hey thanks for the constructive criticism! I wanna make the best stuff I can and comments like yours really help me out a lot :) definitely looking into some kind of lighting array that would fit my space; maybe a ring light or something? I'll keep an eye on visual contrast and keeping things interesting too while I'm editing this next video!
Nothing wrong with SMBW, it was a ton of fun to play especially with other people!
I spent a lot of time staring at games on the Wii Shop Channel and always love to hear other people acknowledge how it genuinely is a really good track. I feel like I recognized that even as a kid hoping my mom would put her credit card number in so I could buy another Mario game 🥹 Great video! I’d love to see a video further examining some of the musical elements that are going on that really give these songs the character they do.
Oh, and my favorite Wii game is probably LOZ Skyward Sword :D
It really is! I spent a lot of time there too; we only got a handful of Virtual Console games, but that was how I played Ocarina of Time and Majora’s Mask for the first time! On the Zelda note, I feel like I need to give Skyward Sword another fair shake; I’ve cooled on it since it first came out, but it DID have some really cool stuff! (Koloktos battle is A+) but I feel like I’d appreciate it more now that I’m an adult
Will definitely look into doing a video on the music theory and such of Nintendo music, this one was all about the vibe 🙂 thanks for the love!
I didn't play a ton of wii games, but to anyone who'll listen, Spectrobes: Origins goes really hard in the design department, and even has a lot of really decent gameplay elements, but the music I think is where that series often shines. Are they GOOD games? Not really, they're like a 6.5/10 experience, but I would definitely say it's worth the 15 or so dollars I paid for each of the 3 games, and emulation would certainly get the bang for your buck, so give it a shot!
Also thank you for the video! I'm so glad to be a new subscriber, I look forward to hearing more about your musical opinions and also hearing more of your brilliant covers!
That sounds interesting, I’ll have to check it out for sure!
Thanks for sticking around, more coming real soon!

@@matthewdotwav Absolutely, it always adds so much to whatever it’s played behind.
The way you say Totaka hurts my soul
Oh no i thought i had it right! Is it To-TA-ka?
Sad to me that the poor sales of the Wii U led Nintendo to axe that silly console-design/UI in their pursuit of moving away from the Wii U and related.
Also on the mention of the 3DS internet theme, the little helper-guy that's made of like two squares and bobs back and forth to the beat of the song I love with all my heart.
Ahaa yeah I love that little dude!
But agreed, it is a bit of a bummer; they seem to want to appeal to a more “core” audience, and right now they don’t want stylized really. It’s a bummer
So true!!! I love the 3DS internet settings music. Peak. really wish the switch did... something... anything!

Ironic that by trying to appeal to adults, they lost what adults tend to lookfor in nintendo: a piece of their childhood.
It really is, that’s a great way of putting it. It’s interesting because in almost every other area, they try NOT to do it like everyone rlse
Completely agree - I made a video last week asking for Nintendo to be silly again.

Nintendo in my opinion has the best music over any other company, they're unique and filled with melodies that make you listen to it more and more, i even bought a game just because i heard the final boss theme and found it awesome!
Yeah they really know how to choose composers for projects who understand the assignment and what they’re going for - and that’s great audio direction! Some of the best-ever OSTs are Nintendo games for sure
