The legacy of Aristotle thought is like no other. From his idea of what reality is and that which is truth is enough to help us understand the eternal aspect of life.

All of Western Society was in awe when Aristotle was first translated. I live my life by these rules over my family's religion. "Nicomachean Ethics" was written for his son. I figure he meant what he was saying.

I'm inclined to agree. There's no other single individual that achieved so much, and much of it developed almost ex nihil, which is nearly unheard of. Most intellectual achievements are incremental improvements, including Newton and Einstein, though they are his peers as some of the greatest minds to ever live.

First I would just like to take the time to give credit where credit is due. The editing and effort put into this requires skill and you’ve done a good job at hoghlighting the major concepts in which he worked on. And you have a good understanding of those too. But I have to ask if you’ve ever read the story of philosophy? As in which I’m reading actively right now lol. And a lot of these key concepts are seeming to be pretty similar yeah ? 🙄😉

Let’s talk The Life of Aristotle - He died at age 62 without any reports throughout his life of symptoms of illness, stomach or digestive problems. He dies soon after he was run out of town for impiety. He fled and did not stay to “take his medicine” so to speak. Many, many, so many, hated him at that time. Is it too far of a stretch to say that the likely cause of his death was murder?

Aristotle was one of the greatest philosophers of Greek antiquity and was also a great natural scientist and the founder of a whole range of sciences. Formal logic reached its highest point with Aristotle. But he was also a product of his time. Of course Aristotle was opposed to the notion of revolution because ancient society had no way out. There was no class in this society which could offer any sort of antithetical, revolutionary outlet, like the working class under capitalism. On the question of slavery, democracy in ancient Greece did not and could not have a fundamentally different viewpoint, since its existence was based on resources of the state provided by slave labor.

Everybody wants to know the meaning of life. Ok, here it is. The meaning, the purpose of life is, life. You can either choose to think about how a perfect life could be, or you can live the life you have. You only get one. And the reason the Republic would never have worked, is that you don’t have a philosopher king currently and no one is going to wait for someone to pass all the tests and turn 50. So yeah, it couldn’t happen because of human nature. The best government is the one that ensures the health and general well being of it’s people. Happy people have hope for a better future. Take care of the people, give them hope and great things happen.

Let’s talk Logic - The Complete Works of Aristotle, The Revised Oxford Translation, Edited by Jonathan Barnes was published in 1984 and not available to Will Durant. The Barnes edition is superior to all previous translations. In the 1984 publication, the board of trustees for the Jowett Trust, approved that the 1925 translation of The Posterior Analytics by Geoffrey Mure be replaced with the 1975 translation by Jonathan Barnes. Jonathan Barnes’ translation of the Posterior Analytics is the second best thing that happened to logic since Aristotle invented logic. As instruction of knowledge to those who desire to learn, the Barnes translation is, for lack of any better description, the most logical.
For example, he replaces the Latin translation from the word ‘syllogism’ to the word ‘deduction.’ Why is this important? Consider that learning and thinking is best understood and practiced while contemplating in terms of contraries. What is the contrary of syllogism? Modern dictionaries have a syllogism as to mean reasoning and thus the contrary is non-reasoning. Now ask what is the contrary of deduction. The contrary of deduction is not non-reasoning; it is induction. This is much better! It is in harmony with what Aristotle is teaching in The Analytics and in The Topics (the primary works of Logic). He is teaching that deduction and induction are both instruments of reasoning. Knowing this, it is easier to grasp that induction always comes first. Without induction there can be no deduction. Induction is coming to know; deduction is proving what we say we know. All induction is art; all deduction is science.

Philosophers are no different from everyone else. You'll notice that the ones who have a decent relationship with their father such as Aristotle had, tend to have better ideas, That end up providing better results. They also seem less likely to have mental illness. He had a generally good relationship with both his father and his son, who he named after his father.

Researchers believe Oswald was drinking a coke in the 2nd floor lunch room but don't believe he was standing out front on the steps watching the motorcade? Why ? Because a policeman stated it but 99% of Oswald's movements was guess work or false testimony. He was leaving work early that day and also you can see him standing out front with a coat over his shoulder. Then he walked asap to the car picking him up. Having a bus ticket in his (so called pocket) doesn't mean he caught a bus. It means police reorganized Oswald's movements after he died falsifying TSBD workers accounts all the way to Tippit them the movie theater ... That's why he was so confident when caught je had other workers ready to swear witness he was out front. They had 2 wallets of Oswald's for God's sake. Get it !!

@@brickdinero5468 Agreed. Like the OP, I also thought that "CE" and "BCE" were yet another politically correct way of trying to change what had always been used. I was quite chagrined to find out that I was TOTALLY wrong. The terms were used as early as the 1700's and became more popular in the 19th century, especially among Jewish scholars. In point of fact, BC and AD weren't used commonly until almost 1000 years after Christ had walked the Earth. The general idea is that for scholarly and scientific purposes, CE and BCE were a more accurate way of dating historical events since there was no actual date known that pinned down Christ's birth (something Christians acknowledge as well). It never really caught on in the mainstream and still hasn't for the most part, but there's nothing subversive or "trying to remove Christ from the calendar" about it.

I had no idea Uncle Ari was so clever: he’s a flat earther, anti-vaccer, and ardent Trump supporter; and every time I go over he’s always freaking out at the kitchen staff 🤬 - but he does make a mean gyros...🌯🏛🇬🇷
