Not Andy, it's Robin, the older twin. Barry said (HBO documentary), "Robin came in and said I have an idea for a song and when he sang it my jaw dropped open". Robin was 17 when he wrote it and It was their first UK #1. At this show he would have been 39. Some of his other leads were "Country Lanes", "I can't see nobody", "Fallen Angel", "Bodyguard", "When he's gone", "Juliet", "Black Diamond", and many others. Robin had a very unique voice with rare vibrato (the quavering sound). Listen to "I started a joke" by Robin from the same 1989 Melbourne concert. People are actually watching and listening...NO CELL PHONES in the air.
The Bee Gees were Barry(the oldest) and twins Maurice&Robin, little brother Andy did a solo career he was not a Bee Gees member. Robin is the one taking the lead singing on this music. A unique&amazing voice we will never found one voice like his. You should try to listening to their 60´s music videos on youtube. This song is actually from the 60´s but this performance was in 1989. There is a video from 1963 it´s a medley they were just kids, go watch if you can it will surprise you😀 they have so many hits and amazing music from all the 5 decades they were active. I´m glad you found them. Sadly only Barry is still alive.
Bee Gees sound as great live as they do in their recordings. Their talent was phenomenal. Please react to Bee Gees LOVE SO RIGHT, from their 1976 Children of the World album, thank you. ❤❤❤
Had the pleasure to visit a few concerts of them (1968 up to 1992) in Munich and it's always been a perfect lifetime-experiance. Clear sound, phenomenal voices and phantastic songs, not to overdo from anyone else. Listen to the medley, they sang and played on the same concert in 1989, it's magical!
Before MTV and VH1 the only way we got to see our favorite groups is on a TV special or in concert. Robin is singing. He has a beautiful haunting vulnerable sadness to his voice. Nobody's voice has ever come close to a match. They songs I Can't See Nobody or For Whom The Bell Tolls really showcases it beautifully. Barry is the oldest. Long hair and beard. Robin and Maurice (pronounced Morris) are twins. They started performing when Barry was 9 and the twins were 6. Their mom went to tell them to turn down the radio and found it was her three sons singing in perfect three part harmony. Andy was 12 years younger than Barry but they were as alike as a twin might be. They had same interests and thought alike. Barry said that they even had identical birthmarks. Andy passed away 5 days after his 30th birthday. He died March 10, 1988. They had announced earlier in the year that he would be joining the group as an official member but sadly it wasn't to be. Barry said that they have written and/or still writing somewhere around 3,000 songs. They've written for top artists and have been covered by hundreds of top artists. Any interview or documentary you run across please watch. The story of this group and families is amazing. Awesome fact, Barry took his family with him on tour every time. He wanted that solid foundation. Another fact is they never learned to read music and they recorded the music before they wrote the song lyrics.
Please listen to and comment on ' Bodyguard', very different. Love this Robin had it almost completely written when he brought it to his brothers. He wrote it on a boat trip around New York. They had not been to Massachusetts at the time.
If you haven't done so, please give a listen to their Medley from the same 1989 Melbourne concert where they sang short bits of many of their hits. Funny you mistook Robin for Andy. Most people think he resembles Barry but he also looks a lot like Robin.

Thanks! I love Robin.. not the usual "lead singer" - but in my opinion the most unique voice!
As Mo said Robin had the voice that touches your heart.
Thank you for reacting to this one. So beautiful. Robin's voice with his brother's harmonies gives me chills. I can't help but sing along.

I will always regret not seeing them in concert. I hang on to the hope in the song Rock And Roll Heaven by Righteous Brothers. It would be awesome.
Considering when they wrote this they never been to Mass. it is amazingly beautiful.

Back in the day concerts are what we did. Every group came through and all concerts were sold out. I went to at least 4-5 every summer.
My favourite song so glad you found this one. Go Robin❤
They were playing stadiums in the late 70's
