Congratulations I play for about 1 to two years and I actually making a course about piano in a University that is my first exercise quite easy but really beautyful.
Thanks for sharing this! I bought the 1st volume in an Old Books' flea market in Spain, and it helped me so, so much in understanding music & improving my way of playing! A genius in music not only creates something worth being listened to, but can change our perception of the world. Undoubtedly, Bartók was a big genius.
Yes. This was written by Bartok for his young son Peter. He has been quoted as saying it had unresolved problems. This is my second listen. Wish I could play it. [trombone player here]
Every human approaching a piano keyboard should be handed the first volume of Mikrokosmos. Ocatave/unison is what it all becomes about. The synchronicity of the hands, the fingers. And then, gently, imitation.
I heard Claude Hellfer perform all three Piano Sonatas of Pierre Boulez in Aspen, Colorado the summer of 1974. He is capable of extraordinary artistry. That he has recorded these pieces should tell you what he sees in them, and what we all should. The name gives it away: the large in the small.
BÉLÁ BARTÓK - MIKROKOSMOS, Volume I, 1-17 Mikrokosmos, progressive pieces for piano in 6 volumes, Sz. 107, BB 105 (1926-1939) Presentación: Adolfo Vásquez Rocca D.Phil Claude Helffer, piano Haakon Austbö, second piano
Hi, Thanks for posting Mikrokosmos! I went to iTunes to purchase this (complete) but don't see Claude Helffer in list, is this recording not available in US? Time to add much more Bartók to mix - sick to death of method books. :)
I know this is a really beginnerish question! On the first few pieces is it ok that i play them by just following the direction of the melody, rather than specifically reading each note and figuring out where it is on the piano? Aka... Im reading it by following the intervals rather than the specific notes?
Ignorance is the worst enemy of human kind so why dislike his comment its nothing offensive it dose sound a little chilldlish and that dosnt meen its not good
I have to cry hearing this, i started this when i was 4 or 5. Now i am conservatory student, i came such a long way...

Wonderful pianist, playing music that is, for all its simplicity, beautiful when played by such a pianist.
