The headline is first time trade surplus in last 3 years. There are 12 quarters in 3 years out of there is surplus in one . But our people are very short sighted the takeaway message is our economy is booming. But it is not the reality. China became the biggest trading partner of India with highest trade deficit of 85 billion US dollars.May be there is surplus in 4th quarter of 2023-24. But in reality the annual trade deficit in financial year 2023-24 with China itself is 85 billion US Dollars, Russia 57.2 billion US dollars.
Total trade deficit is 238 billion US dollars. If there is surplus of 6 billion US dollars in 4th quarter, that means the trade deficit at the end of 3rd quarter was 238+6= 244 billion US dollars.
