I'm adding two to my TBR! Significant Others sounds so intriguing, I'd love if it turns out to be a queerplatonic relationship. That's a relationship type I'm in and I rarely see representation for it.
And The Age of Magical Overthinking! I fell really deep into manifesting culture over the last few years and grateful I got out of it. Thinking my thoughts can change my reality has been really damaging for me. It made me shame myself for my mental illness because I believed I was thinking wrong and that's why I was suffering and having unwanted thoughts.

Hi there!! I just wanted to say that I have a really epic middle grade book series to reccomend. It's the warrior series by Erin Hunter. Cat fantasy fighting with clans and great characters. The first series is called "The Prophecies Begin". I just finished my reread and it holds up so well (with some middle grade-isms to be aware of), but otherwise as long as you are fine with the main characters dying--they are cats... so---I think you will enjoy it! Just a recommendation

I just read The Kamogawa Food Detectives on the weekend. (its already available where I live in English) it is a pure comfort book. Be warned, you will get hungry reading it, the food descriptions are mouthwatering. Before the Coffee gets cold hit me harder in the feels, but I really enjoyed the chill comfort of this one. And, yes there is a cat in the book. That Korean bookshop one looks interesting, have added it to my cart. I'm hoping to get the prose and comic versions of She and her cat as well soon. I need these comfort reads in between the dark sci-fis I tend to read.

Hey. I don't know if you'll be able to get your hands on it but My debut translation comes out this February. It's called "Under The Night Jasmine" and it's written by Manav Kaul. It's translated from Hindi. It should be available everywhere as Penguin has the world rights.
Synopsis : In the middle of the lockdown a writer starts to lose his mind while he is writing a novel and fact and fiction intermingle. There's a queer relationship and straight relationships in it as well. I like to describe it as Call Me By Your Name meets The Reader. I hope you enjoy it.
P.S. I'm mentored in translation by Daisy Rockwell. I hope that gets me browny points.

Ok this is very random and isn't a book recommendations BUT I think you'd absalutley luv this kdrama. Its the first piece of entertainment with a romance between an autistic person and a neurotypical person in it that I've seen done right. The kdrama is called "extraordinary Attorney Woo" and meanwhile she mainly exhibits very stereotypical autistic traits in films and shows, it was represented right. People around her appriciate her for not just her skills, her boyfriend is absalutley head over heels for her just the way she is, she has an specail interest that is not just law (ocean animals!), she has a safe food, her boyfriend lets her info dump a lot, she also happy stims a lot! The show also touches on many issues that autistic people face. Episode 3 especailly hit so hard touching on verious different things that I want to go into but this comment is already long enough. Nevertheless I highly recommend checking this show out despite it not being a book! It's on Netflix and I think they are working on a season 2 sometimes this year or the next. :)

one of my favourite romances in 2023 was the dangerous damsels series by india holton. they're cosy fantasy romances set in the victorian era in england and all the protagonists of her books are autistic, as well as the male love interest in the third book. she's got another similar series beginning in july but i highly recommend the dangerous damsels series. the first one has my favourite romance but the autistic traits of the second book's main character were so very relatable.

Beautyland by Marie-Helene Bertino is a new release that I really think will appeal to you! I truly loved it. Literary fiction/scifi all about humanity and grief. A special coming of age story, which includes honest and tender moments between a mother and daughter. Adina is my new favorite fictional character. I described this as Lady Bird + E.T. + The Friend all came together and made this literary baby. 😅

Ahhhh! So many good books coming out and such little time haha. Also, disability activist and writer Imani Barbarin is coming out with her first memoir/essay collection, "If I Were You I'd Kill Myself", in August that I am so hype for!!!

    Love this list!
I’m in the middle of an ARC for Interesting Facts About Space and have copied out so many quotes! The main character also is strongly autistic-coded

I've started doing the Reading the World challenge this year so translated books coming out in my biggest hyperfocus right now: Sons, Daughters by Ivana Bodrožić (trans poetry from Croatia, out in February), Ghostroots by 'Pemi Aguda (speculative fiction from Nigeria, out in June). Just a taste from now, if you want more ill send you a bigger list when I have the spoons

@@allisonpaiges ok I've joined books that are being translated with books from the challenge set in other countries around the world, hopefully, you can find something that you would like to read: Ghostroots by ‘Pemi Aguda (horror short stories from Nigeria); Sons, Daughter by ivana bodrožić (trans poetry from Croatia); River East, River West by Aube Rey Lescure (historical fiction in developing modern China); The cemetery of Untold Stories by Julia Alvarez (magical realism stories from the dominican republic); Cinema Love by Jiaming Tang (gay men in rural China); Lost Ark Dreaming by Suyi Davies Okungbowa (dystopia novella set off the coast of West Africa). There are also a lot of speculative books coming out inspired by the author's culture which is amazing, including The Spice Gate by Prashanth Srivatsa!

Hi Ally! I love your videos, and especially that you keep ypur language almost always clean, not needing to worry if my kids are around while I watch you! Speaking of my kids, will you link where you got your Totoro plushy? My daughter's birthday is in February and she is asking for one!
