Very nice video. Can’t blame the sailors who sent their boats back home with Spliethoff. It takes some real mental strength to last out this pandemic far from home never mind being confined on a sailboat not knowing when one can sail onwards.
We are in Costa Rica now. We don't want to cross the Pacific this year. We are hoping more countries will be opening up by next year again. Especially New Zealand and Australia. We don't want to get stuck in the South Pacific with no option of moving on to New Zealand.
All in all we are happy with our boat. There are still some warranty issues outstanding, but all the bigger problems are solved. However, we chose to postpone the pacific crossing and use the coastal cruising to test the boat again.
Actually you have been so lucky during your elongated stay in Panama City / Pacific side because of Covid. a) you did not have to be afraid of Hurricane Season b) you were not forced to leave the country abruptly by the authorities,- as it happened to many sailors in many places c) you could anchor there for free d) for your technical problems thas was help and the spare parts you were able to get. e) you did not have to troublesome fight for food, instead a big world selection of grocery items (and even priceworthy) available at Ribasmith Supermarkets in PANAMA city. f) a dream sailors destinatation, the Las Perlas Islands, just a few hours away form your usual anchoring. But the uncertainty about Covid world-development was with you, as with all your comrade sailors. Wish you equal good luck on your future trips.
That is a good summary of our situation in Panama City. Only the very frequent thunderstorms are missing from the desciption. But all in all we were ok to pass the time at the anchorage in Panama City. As you said, the Covid world-development affected all sailors and it still does. We do not know whether we will get into the US and when it will be possible to sail to French Polynesia or rather sail on to New Zealand from there. But, no complaints, we are on the water, Costa Rica is beautiful, let's wait and see.
