- Golf boomed during the pandemic...Everywhere except here. Two years later, it's finally making its comeback. Erik Anders Lang travels to this formally unreachable course to find out what happened on this Adventures in Golf, presented by United Airlines.
Bald Eagle GC has a unique story of being virtually abandoned during the pandemic, which was far from unique in the US and Canada at the time, but is slowly making a comeback thanks to the local volunteers who are helping as they play.
Highlighting golf's fun, human, and humorous side. Golf is no longer just the stuffy world of middle-aged country club members. Skratch brings you golf content for a new generation.
From getting the most exotic tee times on Earth (see: Adventures in Golf) to digging into the game's interesting personalities (see: Skratching the Surface, Finding the Fairway), Skratch showcases a side of golf many would never get to see.

I bought my first tv just so I could watch your videos on a bigger screen. This is better than TV quality content.
Absolutely beautiful video. I wouldn't be surprised if a movie comes out of this golf club's story..
God I love when a new episode of Adventures in Golf comes out.
I am one of those Canadians who played here since the beginning occasionally. Now we can go there again. Thx.
LOVE THE POINT🇺🇸🇨🇦
Rick is an absolute legend of the highest regard.
I mean, come on. This is why I stay subscribed to Skratch.
One of your best Erik!
Dude I live eight hours east of Vancouver. Make your way here. Nelson British Columbia and I’ll show you around.
If it has Erik Anders in it I’m watching it.
This is awesome I love this course. Very close to my home and point roberts is such a unique area.
Love this series
Very cool and interesting vlog Erik!!😀👍
Yeehaw
Seems like everyone but the drunk wants the place to be nice
I heard about this place during the lockdowns. I love the resilience of this little place and this course. The super and GM deserve the Marquis de Sod Award for 2022
What do you mean by GM and super?
@Tracy Evans Yes, just didn't get what the terms meant.
Absolutely love this golf course. As a Vancouver golfer it was brutal that we were not able to get down and support it during the pandemic
Similar story to Aroostook Valley CC in Northern Maine. Awesome track that lost half its membership during covid. Course in Canada, clubhouse in US!
Now that’s some shit lol jeez!
Exactly right, I’m from Maine and that track is so close to border.
I live on the other side of the border and just played this course for the first time since the pandemic. Yes it is rough around the edges but it has a ton of potential. Vancouver golf got even more pretentious during Covid. Jacked up rates, booking fees….absolute garbage!
I am more than happy to support this course and look forward to see it return to its former glory.
@Tracy Evans played again this afternoon and loved it!
@Tracy Evans any updates to the course opening this year?
I played here 3 weeks ago for the first time. Bald Eagle is in a tough spot, even beyond the fact that a border separates them from their customers. It's been a nightmare getting tee times for Vancouver area courses so I hopped on Bald Eagle as a single and it was wide open. It could be really nice, but it's in rough shape. It's burnt to a crisp everywhere besides the greens and will need a ton of repair work. How's it going to happen with no workers and few golfers playing it?
Canada should just buy Point Roberts. Why does the US need it? Or how about a trade? Take a similar sized chunk along the BC-Alaska border or something! If Point Roberts was in Canada their real estate market would explode and places like Bald Eagle would flourish.
Also, EAL - if you need a 16 handicap hack I'll throw my name in the mix for the Breaking series!
I play here evey weekend. The course has a long way to go but it is one of my favourite courses to play at. Looking forward to next season.
Karan, i'm in Bham can you get here by boat or do you need to drive around to go play?
@@jakedoty3441 You can drive if fully vaccinated, but you have to complete ArriveCAN for coming to Point Roberts by land, and then again to return to Bellingham. If unvaccinated, you need to fly or boat in.
Remember that bullshit! Can't believe they made us get vaccinated to cross the border. Luckily as a US citizen I never had to buy had a few friends have clots and heart issues :(
I’ve been there. Not for golf but it’s an interesting town
Woah, crazy that EAL's Point Roberts video comes out the same day as Half As Interesting's Point Roberts video! ruclips.net/video/dKzYD59TtZ8/видео.html
Blonde lady gives me The Ozarks wife vibes
Such a quality video!! We golfed at Bald Eagle on Monday and pretty much had the whole course to ourselves so that was great. There is so much more to do to get this beautiful course back breathing again - everything from tee boxes to bunkers to fairways to greens needs love, labour ... and money. There is love but not so much labor available and I'm not privy to the funding behind it other than the odd rumour of it being up for sale. Bald Eagle in its prime was the most beautiful course in the lower mainland so everyone hopes that it can be reborn again. Kudos to Tracy and Rick and the rest of the staff for their efforts. Hope is abundant.
From Bham can you get here by boat or do you need to drive around to go play?
I just love the people Erik meets around the world, and how he interacts with them. Faith in humanity restored 😅
give me these stories over PGA v LIV. i'm over all that noise, ready to hear more about why i love this game so damn much
Tracy is giving me strong Wendy Byrde vibes and now I know how they REALLY stayed open
i would have loved to volunteer that sounds so cool
Rick is a legend! I'm an asst super on Long island and would kill to help him
Loved this. So heart warming
More Adventures in Canada! Look up Stanly Thompson (Thompson taught Robert Trent Jones in the 1930s) and the development of the CP railroad and the hotels and golf courses that followed, designed by Mr Thompson. Now that would be an Epic Adventures in Golf S08E01
If I was a young single man..I know where I'd be going..what a gem
Wow... I got really emotional watching this....
God willing I am going to visit and play at Point Roberts. It will be aong journey for me as I live in Australia.
Wow... what a magical looking place.
‘Whhuuatt? It’s…81, dude. You nutted that!’
Two things: 1- that’s some articulate journalism happening there and 2- you have an open invitation for some golf with me when you pass through town!
One of the coolest stories yet!
My friend Spencer had an amazing time working with you on this! Love seeing his work paired with the way you guys do storytelling! Thanks for hiring great people!
Would you take a family of 4 with a awesome food truck seem like a awesome place to live just have to convince the wife lol
I live in Vancouver, and I love that course. When i got my first set of clubs I had them shipped to there to save on shipping.
Being in WA you head rumors of this place. Cool to hear the whole story.
Love this! Such a sweet story!
Very cool story and GC. Alachua FL. has a similar GC that just reopened after being closed for several years. They recently had a story published in Golf Digest, and it it detailed how volunteers helped get the GC back into playing conditions. Would love to see Turkey Creek GC get some additional recognition for all the hard work everyone has put in.
being a turf major this seems like an amazing experience to work on
What a great story. I hope this video spreads the story of the course and brings in golfers, workers, and money. Very well done and thanks for spotlighting such a unique place.
Playing there next week. Stoked. Perfect timing
Erik, you always have great stories to showcase. This course on my bucket list. Thanks for sharing.
I love that Erik cannot fathom the idea of a border, just mind blowing stuff
How much have Takomo been paying you to wear that shirt!? They’ve been blowing a bag on their marketing campaign.
Damn you were in my city and I had no clue :(
If the Northwest Angle Country Club ever opens again you should do a sequel to this episode there, another case of a weird spot in the Canada-US border with a golf course residing in it!
Awesome work. Would love to help out and film if ever near Atlanta.
I went to a fortune teller some years ago and she told me I will live in America for 2-3 years. Now I know why.
Ahh, Adventures in Golf……..coffee and relax, and enjoy! My favourite golf series, thank you
next time I go up to Bellingham wa I'm going to see if my buddy wants to cruise up there in his boat and play this course
We would be happy to pick you up from the Marina!
@@carlinglytle1031 wow! thanks carling Lyle, you'll have to join us for our round! I live in scottsdale AZ so this would be very cool. thank you
I was one of those lurkers, a guy who watches and didn't subscribe. Then FP gave me the story about his Whoop. Instant Subscribe! Thank you Mr. Perez for sharing that gem with the world.
FP is a living legend, but I think you are in the wrong channel. 😉
Eric when are you coming to Canada my guy?
Love these episodes. Golf is great game around the world. Have played in 15 countries ; most unique being in Newelya in Sri Lanka
There is no main restaurant
I hope you came to Vancouver after this!
Same thing happened to the golf course on Campobello Island in Canada. The island is located off of downeast Maine, and doesn't have a bridge to Canada. The only bridge access is to Maine. They were allowed to cross he bridge into Maine to get supplies during cover, but Mainers were not allowed to cross the bridge onto the island
Hope you get a round in Canada this season!
Safety nest of honesty-What was the biggest problem here? Vote below
1) Covid
2) Government
Since the COVID rates here are tiny, I'd say the Governement.
How have you not played in Canada yet?! Get up here already!
Great piece done, i hope they get the staff they need. No way my wife would move to a small island so i could work on a golf course. she hate me playing twice a week as it is... lol
I wish I could get out there and support them.
I hope Rick and I are related.
Played here a bunch pre covid. One of the nicest layouts around! Hope they come all the way back.
I love you Erik
Well done
I need a follow up of people who actually went here to work after hitting up Rick
I'm from England, Yorkshire 🏴.
Green keeper most of my working life and running courses with 2/3 staff , this place seems like heaven to me lol shame so far away or I'd be there
Another great show. Straight into google maps after this to look it up!
Great addition here!
Another great video Erik !
This is golf
Such a unique opportunity, thanks for sharing
I really enjoy stories like these. The greens keeper was a real treat to listen to.
Great film Erik
I was there in 2017, specifically to play the course but it was being renovated and I think had new ownership. I guess I have to go back. You should also be aware of the other US Exclave; the Angle - which also has a golf course (at the post office) and has sand greens. I was there in 2017 and couldn't play because of the weather.
It should just be given back to Canada. So dumb
I still cringe when I think of the lone surfer in California that was arrested by the California armed navy (local cops) for being outside. What a complete disaster of a response. And they pretend we are free.
Hi Ryan,
Are you the volunteer fireman who spoke with my daughter Carling at the front desk in the pro shop? Would love to meet you and say hi, Tracy
This is an awesome video & story - love it EAL
This is beautiful, it's like a Frank Capra movie in real life. I wish I could go there, thank you for telling their story, hope that by doing so you are giving them a helping hand.
Good luck to you guys - great film Eric.
Omg come to Canada! Play Banff Springs!
Awesome video!!!! Hope you come to the Philippines
Bob rocking the Bandon Dunes shirt, nice.
@skratch is season 8 coming?
Jesus loves you all and died for our sins .
FINALLY
I looked at the map and see that Victoria, BC is below the 49th parallel. Why isn’t that part of the U.S. (or better question, why wasn’t Port Roberts made a part of Canada? Weird.
that's why we made Victoria the capital of BC and not Vancouver eh :)
1) How has EAL NEVER hit a shot in Canada?!?! You're missing out man!
2) When this course opened it was arguable the best course in and around Vancouver. It's layout in original condition was phenomenal.
Oh those poor people are gonna be assaulted by emails!
I love golf
Bravo
Rick is a Goddamn HERO
Canada has made a lot of mistakes over the last 2 years.
Liberal state wat do u expect
