    ||About The Barnes Foundation||
    The mission of the Barnes is to promote the advancement of education and the appreciation of the fine arts and horticulture.
    Our founder, Dr. Albert C. Barnes, believed that art had the power to improve minds and transform lives. Our diverse educational programs are based on his teachings and one-of-a-kind collections.
    Philadelphia art collector Albert C. Barnes (1872-1951) chartered the Barnes Foundation in 1922 to teach people from all walks of life how to look at art. Over three decades, he collected some of the world’s most important impressionist, post-impressionist, and modern paintings, including works by Renoir, Cézanne, Matisse, and Picasso. He displayed them alongside African masks, native American jewelry, Greek antiquities, and decorative metalwork.

    17:30 I really loved your explication of this still life. I never feel like I "get" Cezanne, but here you bring me closer to understanding him. You are a great docent. Thanks!

    Thank you so much! I have visited the Barnes in its former location and the new one. I don't believe that I saw everything since you introduced quite a few new pieces to me. This was wonderful!

    Penny, thank you for this superb virtual tour. You've given us a great gift! It was a pleasure to see and hear so much about the Barnes and the art. I selfishly hope that you will do more of these as we travel through other rooms. Many thanks for the tremendous effort it must have taken to put this together for us.
    Also, I would like someone to discuss the Cezanne quarry pictures in Room 8. And, further, I would like to hear from more docents. I enjoy the various voices and perspectives you've given us the the Barnes Takeout and hope they never end. They certainly have helped to bring knowledge and insight while we weather the pandemic.

      Thank you for your kind comment Judy. We're happy to report that Barnes Takeout episodes will continue after our reopening, but with a slight scheduling tweak. The last full week of the Barnes Takeout series will be the week of July 20, and then new episodes will be released every Friday around lunchtime. :)

    It would have been even nicer if our hostess were looking at us as she spoke instead of looking downward at her notes
