    The reason people don't vote is that the US has 2 right wing parties both bank rolled by big business and lobbyists. The system is designed to restrict change and keep the people's interests out of politics.

    If there's a voting booth open, I'm in it. I strongly believe that voting is part of my civic duty. But I don't kid myself that it matters in any substantial way. My vote for President is meaningless because I'm a Democrat in a deep red state, and Congress doesn't react to votes, it reacts to money. The few votes cast by those who read, think, and carefully discuss issues are swamped by the millions of votes cast by people who are moved by dishonest television commercials, partisan furor, or religious zealotry. The choices are effectively limited to two self-interested millionaires, greedy for more money and attention, who, if their campaign positions diverge in any significant way, will try to govern from "the center," if they are Democrats, breaking every policy promise they made. Or if Republican, they will govern entirely on behalf of their wealthy donors while throwing scraps to the frightened and the reactionary.
    I don't blame young people for not voting. They've been lied to and sold out so often that they feel like suckers being played again and again. And no, it's not going to be fixed. It's too far gone. The canoe is over the falls now. Pretty soon it won't matter where you sat, or how hard you paddled. Maybe, after the logical consequence of decades of misrule inflicts enough pain and chaos we'll change something substantial. But I'm not counting on it.

    People choose not to vote because if they have voted in the past and did not see the results they were looking for after they were told time and time again there vote matters than what's the point? You have you're right to vote just like others have the right not to. The only votes that matter are those of the rich that actually have the power to make a change. My vote in a red state with me being liberal wouldn't matter I couldn't even get paid through the state to take care of my mother for 6 months when I was out of work attending her aid in hospice care because she wanted to die at home instead of a hospital. They told me she had to have Medicaid instead of Medicare. Both Medicare and Medicaid comes out of everyone's check. It should have not mattered I still should have gotten paid. My mother died and I took a huge financial hit now I'm expected to try to work 2 or 3 jobs to make up that loss after still grieving over being a caregiver so for that I'm choosing not to vote. At this point I don't care anymore.

    Automatic voter registration, access to early voting, mail-in/electronic voting, and mandatory voting would all help resolve the issue. Given our history of outright voter suppression, they are also excessively unlikely - especially in the areas most in need of the policies. Hoping things will improve simply by those in power acting as they should is a misguided stance. Should change come, it will be from the voice of a newly motivated populace. However, in swing ridings you would expect super high turnout and that doesn't happen perhaps because there's already a culture of votes not counting thanks to the distorted undemocratic single-winner districts of FPTP.

    What if not voting on a subject meant the government wasnt doing good enough at their job and they werent addressing things their community is paying attention to and therefore they need to revise and be a little more transparent to get the voters involved. What if people are just tired of the way politics are handled and the government has lost touch with the heart and souls of the people by addressing the same 6 things every voting cycle and never doing anything right because they are seen as greedy incompetent leeches. What if a certain percentage of voters was required to be met before any action was taken and the propositions implied preparedness for immediate implementation so the non voters were given a strategic opportunity by effectively blocking the government from moving forward with anything for as long as it takes the government to get back in touch with the heart and minds of the people by putting g their boots on the ground and doing what they need to do to be active in the community without posting ads on line or selling stickers and buttons, running around preaching instead of showing their backbone.

    It's only the ideas that matter. It's just a shame people like certain ideas and can't agree on which are the good ones. This is why voting has no real value at all, because people only vote for what they want. It might help everyone, it might not, but it doesn't matter because people will vote for what they want and it's not about anything else. They tell you to get out and vote as if it's something good, but if it means something good, then we should trust people actually know what the good vote is and everyone thinks they do. If voting did some good and smart people voted for smart things, then it wouldn't matter if 10 people voted or a million people voted, the smart vote would get in there every time. I don't want anything, that's why I don't vote. I'll let others get what they want. I trust the good people of earth to know what they are doing and I hope they get what they want every time, because if you encourage everyone to vote, then you encourage that you trust they know what to vote for. If someone believes in the system of voting they should also accept the outcome too. Don't play the game if you don't like the rules. If you accept the rules and still play, then don't complain when the game is over. If people complain the stupid one won, then you have to admit you are stupid for participating in a game you know can have a stupid outcome. Plus, the outcome is often thought of as stupid by a person who voted for the opposite candidate, showing that they don't believe in the process they chose to participate in. Who is the stupid one in this situation? Voting doesn't cause of create anything, it just pushes ideas forward by people thinking they are the right ideas or the ideas wanted by someone. Individually wanting never helped everyone, unless they are wanting ideas that help everyone, but we all know that is not how America works.

      Oh yeah, I stay home for sure. Except it's not just about voting for the right or wrong things, it's also about voting for beliefs and selfish wants. Therefor, voting just does what it does. it's not good or bad and doesn't really accomplishing anything god or bad. It's just an arbitrary thing.

    Some other problems: Can only vote your party registration on certain elections. Any registered voter should be able to in any election. Also you have to vote in your district. With todays tech, should be able to vote from anywhere as stated in other countries have online voting. I can go anywhere to use an ATM card but I have to be in my district to vote. Also the gauntlet of literature pushers as you approach the polls. Pa. redrew the districts to favor their party. Also I dont believe any of the people running for office. Those ads berate each other running for election. This is all we have for elections? Mudslingers? How about just putting forth their positive ads and stop insulting each other like elementary school students! Then I worked at the polls a few times, worked under political sponser to have/keep my job. Seen the ugliness behind the public image. Those are my reasons I'm reluctant to vote. I have always voted.

    • @Ariesguy41499
      @Ariesguy41499 5 лет назад

      The Senate actually does a better job with representation than the house in my opinion. Each state is represented equally unlike if we were governed by just a House of Representatives. If that were to happen than districts from the majority of smaller states would practically lose representation and legislation would be decided by a small number of highly populated districts. It's the same thing with the electoral college, even though seemingly everyone is calling it broken (though it wasn't when Obama was twice elected, just sayin) and that it needs to be abolished they don't realize the same problem would occur as that which I mentioned if the house was the sole body of congress. Now I'm not for getting rid of the electoral college, I am in favor of reforming it though. What I think is that the National Popular Vote Bill should be passed into law, getting rid of the winner take all system that all but two states have which basically means whoever wins the most votes in a state wins all of that states electoral votes. If passed into law, NPV would replace the winner take all system with a more democratic system that awards candidates electoral votes based on congressional districts.
