1- Get millionaire and billionaire donors out of politics 2- Allow 3rd party candidates a fair chance, equal coverage by msm 3- Host more debates so voters can clearly hear what issues they're running on until then I refuse to waste my time playing a rigged game
I don't bother voting either. Im not calling off work on a weekday to cast a vote that will later get "lost" or mysteriously changes to a person i didn't vote for.
I am college educated and I used to vote every election. I also used to go to my party's caucuses meetings and was sent to the county level. I turned down the state level because of schedule conflicts. Because of my job, I have to kick people off property for not following the rules. I had to remove myself from the political scene when I found that my party was releasing my address on the internet when I registered to vote.
The Founding Fathers would detest our modern system and likely abstain from it, realizing the futility of voting in an age where the people are literally nothing more than keys to power.
In the UK you can file & pay your taxes online, IMO, there's no reason why you couldn't also let people vote online. I bet you MAJORITY of young voters would vote then.
do party leaders actually want to increase voter turnout? you act like we all want the same thing, progressives would make it much easier to vote, neither corporate dems or repubs want this. this is another instance of ny times leaving out the most important part of the story. that is the story. still contributing to distrust of the system. the ny times is not a very helpful institution.
This is why I don't vote. "Vote blue" or "Vote red". No. Vote for who is going to represent you the best. And the problem is, as long as it's a party system, it's all about beating the other parties, and fulfilling your own parties agenda. It's no longer "for the people" it's for the government. So if I'm voting for which party is going to screw us the people, I don't really care. They both will, whoever wins. So I'll save my time, and use it for better purposes.
Automatic voter registration, access to early voting, mail-in/electronic voting, and mandatory voting would all help resolve the issue. Given our history of outright voter suppression, they are also excessively unlikely - especially in the areas most in need of the policies. Hoping things will improve simply by those in power acting as they should is a misguided stance. Should change come, it will be from the voice of a newly motivated populace. With any luck, this year.
I oppose mandatory voting because of the freedom of expression. By not going to the polls you are expressing your dissatisfaction with the political system.
Without proportional representation there is rarely any reason to vote because most votes don't count. However, in swing ridings you would expect super high turnout and that doesn't happen perhaps because there's already a culture of votes not counting thanks to the distorted undemocratic single-winner districts of FPTP.
I'm pretty sure the majority of the Founding Fathers would be the opposite of proud by learning that the descendants of the people they used to own are able to vote at all.
I have an MBA, 40 years old, white. I’ve never voted. That’s my choice...not an excuse. Your argument is total BS regarding those who are “disadvantaged” and can’t vote. If it’s important to you, you’ll find time to vote. This is why your publication was the laughing stock of the 2016 election.
i honestly don't think income level matters as much as educational level. it doesn't matter how much money you give or don't give to someone who has earned a college degree, they're going to be able to out-think the game and act in their own best interest.
Everything closed in countries that got major turnout. No one works Walmart will close its doors and every 24 hour store of all retailers. All banks and wall street closed, all schools universities and no plane flying. No malls open, all borders closed.
I think campaign ads should be strictly about the person placing the add and not about throwing mudd at their opponent. Back to back adds will tell you the exact opposite messsge. They are useless.
What if not voting on a subject meant the government wasnt doing good enough at their job and they werent addressing things their community is paying attention to and therefore they need to revise and be a little more transparent to get the voters involved. What if people are just tired of the way politics are handled and the government has lost touch with the heart and souls of the people by addressing the same 6 things every voting cycle and never doing anything right because they are seen as greedy incompetent leeches. What if a certain percentage of voters was required to be met before any action was taken and the propositions implied preparedness for immediate implementation so the non voters were given a strategic opportunity by effectively blocking the government from moving forward with anything for as long as it takes the government to get back in touch with the heart and minds of the people by putting g their boots on the ground and doing what they need to do to be active in the community without posting ads on line or selling stickers and buttons, running around preaching instead of showing their backbone.
It's only the ideas that matter. It's just a shame people like certain ideas and can't agree on which are the good ones. This is why voting has no real value at all, because people only vote for what they want. It might help everyone, it might not, but it doesn't matter because people will vote for what they want and it's not about anything else. They tell you to get out and vote as if it's something good, but if it means something good, then we should trust people actually know what the good vote is and everyone thinks they do. If voting did some good and smart people voted for smart things, then it wouldn't matter if 10 people voted or a million people voted, the smart vote would get in there every time. I don't want anything, that's why I don't vote. I'll let others get what they want. I trust the good people of earth to know what they are doing and I hope they get what they want every time, because if you encourage everyone to vote, then you encourage that you trust they know what to vote for. If someone believes in the system of voting they should also accept the outcome too. Don't play the game if you don't like the rules. If you accept the rules and still play, then don't complain when the game is over. If people complain the stupid one won, then you have to admit you are stupid for participating in a game you know can have a stupid outcome. Plus, the outcome is often thought of as stupid by a person who voted for the opposite candidate, showing that they don't believe in the process they chose to participate in. Who is the stupid one in this situation? Voting doesn't cause of create anything, it just pushes ideas forward by people thinking they are the right ideas or the ideas wanted by someone. Individually wanting never helped everyone, unless they are wanting ideas that help everyone, but we all know that is not how America works.
@@guitarsrcool4922 Oh yeah, I stay home for sure. If voting worked as something good and everyone who voted were smart and knew everything that was going on, they would all likely vote for the same things, the good things or good ideas. Except it's not just about voting for the right or wrong things, it's also about voting for beliefs and selfish wants. Therefor, voting just does what it does. it's not good or bad and doesn't really accomplishing anything god or bad. It's just an arbitrary thing.
Some other problems: Can only vote your party registration on certain elections. Any registered voter should be able to in any election. Also you have to vote in your district. With todays tech, should be able to vote from anywhere as stated in other countries have online voting. I can go anywhere to use an ATM card but I have to be in my district to vote. Also the gauntlet of literature pushers as you approach the polls. Pa. redrew the districts to favor their party. Also I dont believe any of the people running for office. Those ads berate each other running for election. This is all we have for elections? Mudslingers? How about just putting forth their positive ads and stop insulting each other like elementary school students! Then I worked at the polls a few times, worked under political sponser to have/keep my job. Seen the ugliness behind the public image. Those are my reasons I'm reluctant to vote. I have always voted.
So you’re saying it doesn’t have anything to do with horrible candidates Who care more about corporations than the average American people Who don’t vote ?!?! Americans didn’t vote in the 2016 election because their choices were between awful and worse.
We the people have more power than we use, but we need to vote and get involved in our communities, towns and cities. I know it seems what is the use, but it takes all of us to make change happen
Automatic voter regiatration. Early access voting. National public holiday on election day. No gerrymandering or voter suppression laws. Do these things and our government will become more representative and continue a renewed wave of American progress. It's simple. Those who understand these vicious cycles, and stand to benefit from them, will fight tooth and nail to suppress turnout. The only way to change that is the break through now. VOTE
Well I guess less and less people will vote every election cycle and the next thing you know it will be down to about a few thousand voters running the Country. Lol.
I used to be one of these people that didn't keep up with politics because I ignorantly believed that the government as a whole is corrupt and so my voice didn't matter. I decided to start keeping up with it all in the months before the 2016 elections and I've gradually realized how wrong of me it was to not pay attention to this all, and now I even share videos and articles regarding the US and Mexico's current events with friends and family. This is something that just HAS to change.
Not all the founding fathers were in favor of democracy. Hamilton advocated for a more aristocratic government. That is why we have misrepresentation like in the electoral college and the senate.
And Jefferson wanted the House of Representatives and a popular vote to elect the Executive President. Really, Jefferson and Hamilton were the founding fathers of the two-party system, and that Hamilton play fools people into thinking that Hamilton cared about minorities or democracy, or that his main rival in life was Burr.
@@coinsagE46m3 I'm just responding to the claim made at the end of the video that voting would make the Founding Fathers proud. Some of them would be but others, like Hamilton and Robert Morris, had deep distrust in the will of the masses. The constitutional framework was not designed to be particularly democratic, it was a compromise. But do vote tomorrow, no matter what some of the Founding Fathers would think!
@@brandondavidson4085 I do not side with any party myself. But as fun as the Hamilton play is to watch, it is raw propaganda. I've literally met people who believe that Hamilton was a good person simply because they watched this musical. My question is...why Hamilton and not Thomas Paine? Paine led a far more interesting and "progressive" life than Hamilton in my opinion.
The Senate actually does a better job with representation than the house in my opinion. Each state is represented equally unlike if we were governed by just a House of Representatives. If that were to happen than districts from the majority of smaller states would practically lose representation and legislation would be decided by a small number of highly populated districts. It's the same thing with the electoral college, even though seemingly everyone is calling it broken (though it wasn't when Obama was twice elected, just sayin) and that it needs to be abolished they don't realize the same problem would occur as that which I mentioned if the house was the sole body of congress. Now I'm not for getting rid of the electoral college, I am in favor of reforming it though. What I think is that the National Popular Vote Bill should be passed into law, getting rid of the winner take all system that all but two states have which basically means whoever wins the most votes in a state wins all of that states electoral votes. If passed into law, NPV would replace the winner take all system with a more democratic system that awards candidates electoral votes based on congressional districts.
I'll just probably follow what everyone else know is doing. Without voting for what I actually believe. And tbh again lol I know there's MANY other people my age (22) and younger and older who feel the same way

The things I care about, no one is talking about. Yet. But I vote because I am a woman of color. A lot of fighting was done to give me the right I have today. So to honor those who fought, and to celebrate this privilege, I vote, and wait In hopes that one day, what I care about will be on a ballot
I don’t like Democrats and I voted for them. But if I’m being honest I don’t trust Democrats to represent the left because they’re bankrolled by corporate lobbyists like the Republicans and they also gerrymander like the Republicans. I vote for Democrats but at the end of the day they represent corporate interests and only pretend to represent the American people.
Definitely in the middle but lean to the left. Ok lol.
Idiotic comment
Get rid of the electorial college
Dude you do NOT want a country ruled by a lynch mob
Vote in politicians that'll try to get rid of it like Bernie and AOC.
Yes so then NY and CA will decide everything and then it becomes even more pointless for the rest of the country to vote than it already is
@@almalone3282 SEE?!!!!! YOU ARE PART OF THE PROBLEM EXPLAINED IN THIS VIDEO!!!!!!!!
YSE!!!!!!! AND USE RANKED CHOICE VOTING IN CONJUNCTION WITH A DIRECT NATIONAL POPULAR VOTE ELECTION OF THE PRESIDENT!!!!!!!
Controlled opposition the illusion we have a choice.
Nobody wants to wait in a long line! If there was an app, I guarantee numbers would double. Such a outdated process.
still wouldn't vote.
Thank god, the majority believes voting is trash.. now we need to figure out what to do next..
They call it the American dream...... because you have to be asleep to believe it---George Carlin
1- Get millionaire and billionaire donors out of politics
2- Allow 3rd party candidates a fair chance, equal coverage by msm
3- Host more debates so voters can clearly hear what issues they're running on
until then I refuse to waste my time playing a rigged game
Exactly
Meh
I don't bother voting either. Im not calling off work on a weekday to cast a vote that will later get "lost" or mysteriously changes to a person i didn't vote for.
I am college educated and I used to vote every election. I also used to go to my party's caucuses meetings and was sent to the county level. I turned down the state level because of schedule conflicts. Because of my job, I have to kick people off property for not following the rules. I had to remove myself from the political scene when I found that my party was releasing my address on the internet when I registered to vote.
make founding father proud. I will pass on that
PREACH!!!
The Founding Fathers would detest our modern system and likely abstain from it, realizing the futility of voting in an age where the people are literally nothing more than keys to power.
Make Nigeria great again
In the UK you can file & pay your taxes online, IMO, there's no reason why you couldn't also let people vote online. I bet you MAJORITY of young voters would vote then.
The two parties ARE the same. Vote Libertarian!
Voting libertarian is just as bad.
do party leaders actually want to increase voter turnout? you act like we all want the same thing, progressives would make it much easier to vote, neither corporate dems or repubs want this. this is another instance of ny times leaving out the most important part of the story. that is the story. still contributing to distrust of the system. the ny times is not a very helpful institution.
LOL, you're trying to stay poor people don't have ID
Vote Blue
Vote Red
Vote
This is why I don't vote. "Vote blue" or "Vote red". No. Vote for who is going to represent you the best. And the problem is, as long as it's a party system, it's all about beating the other parties, and fulfilling your own parties agenda. It's no longer "for the people" it's for the government. So if I'm voting for which party is going to screw us the people, I don't really care. They both will, whoever wins. So I'll save my time, and use it for better purposes.
This isn't a sporting event, you need to ditch the whole idea of team red and team blue
Angie or.....how about just vote?? U democrats always telling people what to do
Politics is toxic, I don’t vote for hypocrites, i take my chance. I have nice peace of mind. It’s working for me
Did Not Vote 2020 !!!
Eff that paternal ending! They owned slaves!
LMAO
Why is requiring a ID a bad thing. If you can't get one of those then you probably don't work or do anything for the community at all.
@@christianrupprechter3645 Thats a good way to put it.
@N C Enjoy the decline.
Lol you say it girl !
Yes!
Lmao people always seem to forget how morally reprehensible a lot of the founding fathers were
The founding fathers thought about slavery but assumed that it would end by itself, that's the reason why the constitution never touches the issue.
I think it’s ok to think that the system is corrupt, etc. but that should be more of a reason to get involved in politics.
Life's short enough without wasting it on polibollocks.
Boom.

Thats like going to a poker table with a single chip while the other 2 players have a mountain of chips infront of them
mysterious stranger there's a small chance, and sometimes that's all you need
everybody knows the electoral college picks the outcome LMAO
The big corporations, Wall Street, international bankers and powerful secret societies have the last word.
Literally.... our votes don’t matter, only do when you’re in a swing state. Electoral college is bs.
Hmm interesting. I believe more people would vote if there more multiple parties i.e. not just democrat vs. republican, you know?
No one comes for my vote. So, I frankly do not care.
I think it would be a great idea to be able to vote via letter! You can do that in Germany
i honestly don't think income level matters as much as educational level. it doesn't matter how much money you give or don't give to someone who has earned a college degree, they're going to be able to out-think the game and act in their own best interest.
Colleges are centers for higher indoctrination, not higher learning
I voted for Bernie last time. Not going to vote this time.
As the great al bundy said I'm never voting again
Same
Why? Bad options.
Great video. All good except the brief reference to online voting. Online voting is such a horrible idea.
Whose we?
I vote and my candidate always wins … in my dreams.
Everything closed in countries that got major turnout. No one works Walmart will close its doors and every 24 hour store of all retailers. All banks and wall street closed, all schools universities and no plane flying. No malls open, all borders closed.
Euh, I wouldn't pick belgium as example. They have 6 fricking governments at the moment.
"THE SYSTEM IS BUSTED AND UNFAIR, so i'm gonna stay home and not do anything about it...."
Because there legitimately isn't anything that can be done about it. 😂
What about this do you voter sheep have trouble understanding? 😂
I think campaign ads should be strictly about the person placing the add and not about throwing mudd at their opponent. Back to back adds will tell you the exact opposite messsge. They are useless.
Didn't Vote wins the electoral college 🤣
If you don’t want to vote you don’t have to.
Of course the NY Times think online voting is a good idea...
Good video but those sound effects on your graphics were too distracting.
lol largest voter turnout in history got us Biden 🤣 We were better off when the ignorant and the lazy stayed home.
Biden won because of Dominion voting systems
Yeah I think it best that you stay home and have another Bong. Lol
@@guitarsrcool4922
Oh yeah, I stay home for sure.
It’s crazy that we in Turkey have a higher voter turnout that the US
great
This is why there needs to be a third party
So you’re saying it doesn’t have anything to do with horrible candidates Who care more about corporations than the average American people Who don’t vote ?!?! Americans didn’t vote in the 2016 election because their choices were between awful and worse.
Was anyone else very annoyed by that swiping sounds? It was distracting from the information in the video
We vote yet have BS like this.
We the people have more power than we use, but we need to vote and get involved in our communities, towns and cities. I know it seems what is the use, but it takes all of us to make change happen
Like that's going to happen, look communities are divided, no one cares anymore, it doesn't matter anymore
We have no power friend....no matter how we come together, we have no power. That's why it's no use.
Oh guys, have some faith in light that is shining
@@dianewiegel7136 Why have faith in a light that isn't there? 😂
VOTE
Idk how requiring an ID card to vote is a bad thing??
Donald Trump 's Day on the Communist Party on the Soviet union: October 6, 1967 ( KGB Docement )
Online vote
If we implemented online voting, younger voters would vote by a drastic change.
I feel the visuals aids in the piece were stif, uninspired: 3/10. Not gunna vote :(
Well I guess less and less people will vote every election cycle and the next thing you know it will be down to about a few thousand voters running the Country. Lol.
I live in a county dominated by Democrat party my votes are canceled every time by 10 to 20 other voters so why bother
The sound effects were a little distracting
Not all the founding fathers were in favor of democracy. Hamilton advocated for a more aristocratic government. That is why we have misrepresentation like in the electoral college and the senate.
So?
If passed into law, NPV would replace the winner take all system with a more democratic system that awards candidates electoral votes based on congressional districts.
all the swiping and swooshing sounds make it feel very amateur-ish..
I'll just probably follow what everyone else know is doing. Without voting for what I actually believe. And tbh again lol I know there's MANY other people my age (22) and younger and older who feel the same way
While i don't believe in mandatory voting, I believe in mandatory/automatic voter registration. I think it would help immensely.
I think we need to make voting mandatory like Australia.
