You know it is a great car when every single upshift is greeted by a backfire.
And when there is a familiar version of it so you tune it to be a cheap and less reliable rival of an rs6

But if you do have money you'll probably need to work on the engine a lot (not sure how good the octavia engine is, it has to be a 2.0 petrol version tho) to be able to take a somewhat big of a turbo with anti-lag and not die, then get a nice exhaust.

@@sonyjuric3443 New Computer, More aggressive cam, If they're not already turbo'd you'd need to do that which would subsequently be followed up by doing life support mods for boost, so head gasket, head studs, if you're tearing the motor apart then better Crankshaft, Con rods, and pistons are recommended if it's not already a boosted vehicle. An Anti-lag to keep the new turbo spooled when you let off the accelerator (Which is the backfire and popping you're hearing between shifts), and an exhaust with no restrictions.
You're talking about dedicating maybe a good 10-15 grand to a 20 year old Skoda, so I hope you like Octavias a lot.
Edit: You'd also need a sequential transmission/straight cut gears with close ratio LSD to have the acceleration this car has out of corners.

but vrs (179hp?) is just frontwheeldrive i think :(

I dunno why, but the Octavia is one of my most favourite WRC cars of any (WRC) generation.
it didn´t compete all that well, it didn´t have any great names on board, it looks comparatively ugly and tame..
And yet, I love it.
Didn´t Armin Schwarz drive for Skoda before or after his contract with Hyundai? does anyone know whether I´m misremembering that?
Jeremy J. Thank you so much mate! Yes Schwarz drove the Octavia between 1999 and 2001, then 2 years with the Hyundai and for 2004 and 2005 again with the Skoda team, but with the Fabia WRC

Top motor. Had mine a while and it never let's me down. Solid engine and body. Stick good tires on it, check brakes and flue's, and it will not let you down..

What are the other upgrades from stock?
Is this an 8 valve turbo, 16 valve turbo, or 20 valve turbo? I cant tell by the sound.

Jeremy J. Theres a designated key for it on a Czech keyboard. I reckon you could do it with some kind of alt and something combination but I don't know it exactly. Skoda is good enough I suppose but it is good to know that it is not written exactly like that.

How much would it cost to have a car prepared like this but not wrc regulated ?
They are not really prepared from stock cars as such, they´re mostly purpose-built.
If you would want to get one of them, I´d say you´re looking at a ~130.000 € price tag.
If you own an octavia vRS (any year), and you simply want to get it to the same weight and power of one of the originals, you might get away with 60.000 € if you get used parts whereever possible and do much of the work yourself.
These are only educated guesses though.
That's a good answer. I believe that I could buy it although it may take me about 4-5 years ( talking about the 130 euros ). I don't own a Octavia but I could buy the focus rs and prepare it,I believe it also depends on parts manufactures and what's cheaper. But yes its possible but It will take me a long time... But at the end the car won't look old and for a rally car even less.
Any idea on what's the high sound when he steps off the gas? That chripp chripp...!!! Isn't that the turbo that doesn't have any waste gate or bov or is it a double waste gate system ? Thanks ! (Long message!!)

renato muu I´m pretty sure that´s just the turbo. But I´m really not sure, maybe someone can tell us.
'bout 100k euros. You need a new engine block that can support the stress of a race car, new pistons, cylinders, roll cage, chassis, transmission, short range gearbox, suspension, bigger fuel tank possibly and turbochargers with anti lag, which need to be replaced after a while, because anti-lag destroys turbos. And that's just for one race. The turbochargers stop working as efficiently after a certain mileage, even without anti lag. So, you're better off buying one premade on sale and keeping the extra cash for restorations :P
