Coming back to this after Dallas WHOOPED up on the Suns in game 7. They were on pace to surpass this, but a late run by Phoenix secured this game's place as, for now, still the worst game 7 blowout in NBA history by scoring deficit.

They were up 2 4/5 games to none (up with a few minutes left in game 3) to take a 3-0 lead that no one has ever came back from .. then the mob connected gambling ring game fixing refs took over and turned Wade into MJ on steroids in the 4th quarter with a foul call every time down the floor.

Biggest Mav fan ever, and I agree with you. But we saw the Mavs play the Heat in a series in which they were up 2-0 that had to be rigged. Also remember so many Suns/Spurs series that felt wrong? One game Dirk was so not himself, and got none of the calls... the Rockets had the win, and the officials made so many calls for the Mavs at the end. They won barely. This was back when every series felt off if you were honest with yourself.

If you're talking about Donaghy, he never said the series was rigged. He said Cuban complained after Game 2 that Yao was setting illegal picks. Instead of the league telling him to shut it, they admitted he was right and warned both teams that Yao won't get away with that shit anymore. The Rockets obviously adjusted, because Yao wasn't called for illegal picks in Game 3 either.
This video shows the only illegal pick set by Yao in this game, and it was an easy call.

@maxinutri Too bad they blew that damn 13 pt lead late in game three, if they win that one they sweep and are champs! that three not going in should never have been involved in that, they should have won in 5 IMO, they were the superior team that year once they beat SA in 7! If you beat the title team you own the rights to the title, yet they somehow blew it and will forever remember that there.

Did it ever occur to you that Yao actually was setting illegal picks in Game 2? Did it ever occur to you that sending clips to the league office is standard procedure?

@taylortype Watch what happens at 1:35. Yao getting away with that over and over again with no call was the reason the Rockets unjustly stole Game 2. Fortunately, the league office then told the refs to start holding Yao to the same rules everyone else was already held to, and the result was a fair series in which the Mavs ran the Rockets out of the gym four times out of five.

      Let's talk facts.
      G1 26% FG 0-2 3pt
      G2 38% FG 0-1 3pt
      G3 56% FG 0-0 3pt
      G4 28% FG. 1-1 3pt
      G5 40% FG 1-3 3pt
      G6 22% FG 2-6 3pt
      G7 35% FG 0-1 3pt
*That's 4 3pointer for the entire series...FROM DIRK.* Plus he shot 40% or worst in all but one game. Trust me you're not going to find any "highlight" from Dirk 2005 Mavs vs Rockets series
I saw the game myself in real time. Rockets took the first two games in Dallas. Mark Cuban started to cry to David Stern and it was rigged from game 3-7. Game 5 was horrible, the refs couldn't even hide what they were doing in that game. Mark Cuban couldn't accept that they might have been losing because of their best player (Dirk) not showing up. I remember Jeff Van Gundy getting fined in that series. Do you realize what it takes to be fined $100,000 in the nba? He didn't hit anybody or run into the stands. All Jeff Van Gundy did was say that the refs were making very questionable calls against Yao Ming. Just to put that into perspective. Phil Jackson, Larry Brown, and Doc Rivers are the top three most fined Coaches. Phil was fined 8 times for a total of 380,000. That's 47,500 per fine for Phil. Phil single biggest fine is 75,000 in 2011. Larry was fined 7 times adding up to 117,500. Doc was fined 6 times for a total of 115,000. Jeff Van Gundy got fined 100,000 for one comment. It was the single biggest fine for any Coach in NBA History at the time. Tmac was scoring, dunking, and sinking game winners. Plus he had to help hold down Dirk because Shane Battier wasn't playing for the Rockets yet. Yao was getting fouled on the hand and arms I swear they were trying to play patty cake. Plus this Mavs team were known floppers during this era. Yao and Tmac were about to run away with the series easily before the ref stepped in to saved Mark Cuban. People need to watch this *entire* series. Not 5 minutes clips. I like how Mavs fans never talk about Dirk during this series. This is probably why the NBA got tired of Mark in 2006 vs Miami.

Did it ever occur to you that Yao wasn't called for any illegal picks in Game 3? Did it ever occur to you that Donaghy only mentioned illegal picks, so Finley's out of bounds play in Game 5 is irrelevant? Did it ever occur to you that Game 7 shows just how unworthy the Rockets were? Nah, you never cared about the details, because none of them favor your victim standpoint.

    • @JamesHardenoverKobe13
      @JamesHardenoverKobe13 2 года назад

The refs were actually on Jeff Van Gundy side and tried to tell him the truth. Hence the 100k fine. Mark Cuban would flood the NBA headquarters with email all the time. Calls he felt should've gone the Mavs way. Plus the Mavs were known floppers . The refs did not like to officiate their games during this time. They felt like sticking it to Mark when he go to the Finals vs the Heat. Had Mark just chill they might have a champ in 2006. Karma.

Wasn't tainted or rigged. The Mavs were screwed in Game 2, Cuban sent the evidence, the NBA agreed they blew a bunch of calls, they warned both teams the rules would be enforced thereafter, the Rockets adjusted, and the Mavs still proved they were the better team.
There was no actual mention by Donaghy of foul play either, only suggestive terminology like "targeting" (but he still admitted the league was "enforcing the rules"). He only mentioned foul play regarding the Lakers/Kings series.

Now why would the evil NBA fix a FIRST ROUND SERIES for the Mavs one season, then screw them over in the CHAMPIONSHIP ROUND the very next year? Oh yeah, so that Donaghy can sell more books.
The actual story is much less exciting, I'm afraid. Cuban had a point about the illegal screens early in the series and the league agreed to not let Houston cheat any more.
