Curious if you could try using one of those floats to raise the water channel, so that it can be automatically raised and lowered depending on the water level. Yet to see a youtuber incorporate one in a build. I recall some contractor using one in a water tank connected to a warehouse roof, which saved water for the sprinkler system. If the float got to high, it would pull up on a valve and send the water to the overflow pond.
