I still can’t believe ABS was his last live performance. I still remember seeing it live and feeling that something was off with that performance. It just felt. Final. I can’t explain it.
American bandstand wasn't his last live performance. This video missed live at the apollo in April 2002. Jacko performed dangerous, black or white and finally heal the world.
The tragedy of Michael Jackson will go down as an almost Shakespearean tale so heartbreaking to see a genuinely great human be plagued with the the hurts and hang ups he experienced these last years, and the traumas from his childhood surfacing even more as he reached mature adulthood. We don’t know a lot from the last year in 2009 bout him personally but I pray he was able to figure some of this stuff out. God bless him and his family
I've said the same thing. The story of Michael Jackson could be something out of Shakespeare. Such a tragedy. I always said if I could do a biopic of MJ, it'd be a Shakespearean like tale. One of Triumph and Tragedy.
Its so obvious there was a smear campaign against the King, and we know who and why. The real ones knew as it was happening and defended him till the end. We love you Michael
5:36 Michael is heavily sedated here. .. He is sedated throughout many of the clips this year but here it is most significant. He is slurring words, barely moving his jaw, has paralysis of facial expression. He isn't able to pronounce 'racism' at 4:46. My heart hurts.
Looking back in hindsight, you can clearly see the writing on the wall. The 2000’s was the decline. From the plastic surgeries, financial situations, drug addiction & allegations. His life was spiralling out of control. His death was on the cards. A real shame for such great talent.
Yes, you are absolutely right. But what gets me nonetheless is that his three children are so nice, well behaved and generous. Especially his eldest son who lived MJ‘s most tragic years consciously is an absolutely amazing and normal person to me.
His comeback was thru the grave, just as it was with Elvis. MJs debt was settled in short order once he was out of the way. Branca was able to rehab MJs image with strategic music and production deals that made MJ the wealthiest he’s ever been… and as a corpse. MJ could never have accomplished that whilst living.
I'm gonna take a wild guess what the themes of the next years are gonna be- 2003 - Martin Bash*t documentary 2004 - beginning of trial charges, police raiding Neverland 2005 - Court trials Santa Barbara / escape to Bahrain 2006 - World Music Awards 2007 - Japan ? 2008 - Thriller 25. TMZ videos of him shopping with kids, bookstores, his house in Vegas 2009 - preparations for This It It, his death :( I am absolutely dreading the Year in Review 2009 video 😢
Good on Michael for holding it down for Dick Clark & the American Music Awards. I never heard of this controversy before. Mike remembers the beginning & who was down for him & who wasn't. It wasn't the American Music Awards who snubbed him, it was the Grammys! Never forget 1988. Mike remembers his appearances on Dick Clark's American Bandstand since the earliest Jackson 5 days to the days of the Jacksons. It was a no-brainer that Mike would ride for a True Blue like Dick Clark who ALWAYS had his family's back. I refrained from watching this one for a long time. This is when us fans had to defend Michael STRONG. They were coming for his NECK back then. And the worst was yet to come.
I love MJ but it's clear to see that by 2002 his mental health was spiralling out of control. Whether it was from the drugs he was taking, the stress he was under due to his album being underpromoted, the media being on his case. Whatever it was just led to one bad decision after another. Which is why it's so sad that This Is It never came to fruition. It would've been his chance to come back as the MJ everyone knew him as during the 80s and 90s. Sadly he died as the MJ that was constantly mocked all throughout his later life.
The problem with the invincible album was definitely its songs that were too slow and inclined to R&B, only highlighting 2 or 4 fast songs as was his style, because his music was created according to his mental state and the age he was with as a family man, Tastes and rhythms change to what he was when he was young and single, a pity, I don't think Sony had an influence on the low sales after 2002.
You fail to mention how Sony pumped millions upon millions into invincible. It was the most expensive album ever created at that point (im unsure if it still holds the record). Sony was in their right to withhold further investment when the album flopped on launch.
@@harrydhcco Jacko's formula was to jump aboard the trends at the time and run with it. Dangerous - new jack swing. Invincible - R&B. Off the wall - disco/funk.
@@mrpussinboots4252 but unfortunately his R&B was too slow, Invincible had too many slow songs which caused his low sales and loss of the thread that he left at 97 with the 5 new songs of Blood on the dance floor in comparison.

my heart really hurts watching this as I love Michael so much. very tough year and the tabloids treated him is disgraceful, on the top of that battle was sunny and this fake award when Britney Spears was handling that to him. they arrange that just to making a fool of him and he thought it was serious. I hope that they’re already in hell. but little did you know that the worst is yet to come… and they were worried what kind of father he is we can see, his children comparing to some of their so-called stars are just gold. i’m so sorry Michael that you have to go through so much of this crap. I miss you so much every day but rest in heaven❤
As a long time fan (since late 80's) i have to say that things started to getting worse year after year, since late 2000's in above... MJ was not the same anymore in every aspect like physical, behaviors, artistic, ect. We lost him for ever since.
I remember watching all of this in real time - it's very vivid to me because even as a pre-teen, it was really hard to watch. I really wish he had had good, honest people around him to force him to get the help he so desperately needed.
I don’t understand the comments, despite the media and baby dangling throughout 2002 and 2003 Michael was constantly getting awards, so I don’t think this was a bad year.
You forgot the clip, where he told Diane Diamond to tell Gloroa Allred to Go To Hell on his way into court!! That was regarding the baby dangling incident, and he was going to court for that $21 million dollar lawsuit.
Michael will always be the best! No one can take that from him. It hurts to see what they did to him but he can always count on his fans. We will never let him down. He will always be my No. 1, forever❤️🔥the one and only, the king, the God, my everything Michael Jackson ❤️🔥🌹✨💯💋
This is very sad and hard to watch. They destroyed such a talented, sweet, kind, dynamic and handsome man with all their words, rumors and jealously. All these people who ever did any harm to MJ will have their Karma served to them. God is watching. RIP MJ💔
My God... It's so sad to see how much of a wreck he was during this year! From one major embarrassment to the next. I know his drug addiction would have been the primary factor behind all of this. How was this not highlighted by the media at the time? So scary to watch all of this in hindsight.
I feel so bad for Michael for what he had to go through, he was the most sweetest, pure, angelic human being, but the world was so evil and they literally destroyed him, I’ll never forgive the people that done that to him, I hope he’s at peace with the angels and Jesus🥺🥺🥺🥺💞💞💞💞!!!!!
I really wish his marriage to LMP worked out but I get why it didn't. There was definitely a significant downward spiral for MJ after their marriage ended but I think there is a good chance they could both still be with us if they stayed together.
Me too i think with her he kind of looked normal and his downward spiral was when she left him like forever like I suspect around 2000 and then he just went in a rabbit hole well she did talk about it in her interview with Oprah but I hoped desperately they stayed together she went too so too and the Debbie situation mj did was just outrageous he basically ended his own marriage
I am old enough to remember those unfortunate years, which I lived with sadness, despite not agreeing with those who attribute all the responsibility to the press. Michael helped keep feeding them, and by the time he wanted to stop them, it was too late. I remember that Lisa Marie commented in the RS of the year 2003, that she surely must have told Michael at the time. That year I noticed him different, not only in his appearance, but in his behavior... for the worse, unfortunately. And nobody told him that at MTV he was going to receive only a symbolic award, for his birthday, instead of a real award? Those bizarre things, that only happened to him... but hey, he was surrounded by vultures and shit.
yeah . 2002 was a strange year I’m sure you probably remember the shop lifting incident with Winona Ryder and the infamous diane sawyer interview with Whitney Houston
... Thanks a lot. Very interesting and informative ... we know a lot. But I saw something for the first time .... Michael is an incredible person !!!!! I really love fragments of his voice.. And what a cool deep voice.. 😘
No offense to anyone who likes her but I find Liza Minnelli to be such a weird and annoying person and I don't know how Michael was friends with her. PS. still have nightmares from her rendition of You Are Not Alone at the anniversary special.
Entering 2000s Michael Jackson fell apart. I feel that everything Michael did back then was always wrong in the eyes of the media and journalism. Covering his children's face to protect them i mean nothing wrong with that besides he's a famous person on earth, like what celebrities do these days protecting their children from the media but no one talks about it
Hard to believe, but in late 2002 it was the first time I heard Michael Jackson’s name, but never actually see what he looked like a little later in early 2003 I saw a pic of him in 2002 (the Marcel Avram court trial 1st day) in J14 magazine and I was like “What happened? How did he looked like that? How was he white?” until not long after I learned more about Michael. Also this is when MTV screwed Michael and when that man hating b🤬 Gloria Allretch threatens Michael to drag authorities to take his kids away and he told her (not personally) to “go to hell”.
How did I not know about the Marcel Avram trial and what that whole thing was about?! I always knew of the infamous picture of Michael's nose at 7:50 but I never knew what is was for. I think I thought it was from the 2005 trials or something
I have that Vibe Magazine! I remember being so excited to get that magazine and thinking how cool it was for him at that time to be wearing his glove and Billie Jean jacket (outside of performing) casually in a photo shoot, and the clothes he had on inside the magazine were very cool. Unfortunately, I also have all of newspapers from that year that have him on the cover when he had the bandage on his nose, him dangling Blanket over the balcony and taking Prince and Paris to the zoo with face masks on (people thought that Michael putting masks over his children’s faces was so weird, how ironic).
There goes the negativity they just want leave Michael alone…They’re still angry and it’s been 13 years racism is as real as there’s a sky above…They’re still mad at Michael’s success well they might as well scratch their behind and be glad for Michael he did it and was perfect at it the whole world loved it and him as well I think it’s safe to say 95 percent of the world loved him wholeheartedly and the 5 percent don’t count…🙏🏽🙏🏽🙏🏽💪🏽💪🏽💪🏽☝🏽☝🏽☝🏽👀
No, just no. Jacko planted stories mid 80s and it back fired drastically. Every celebrity is under constant scrutiny from the media and press, Jacko wasn't an exception. Whether it was Whitney, Madonna, Bieber ect.. they all felt the brunt of the media.
Why? I think because he obviously was black, loved and this is too much power especially political influences. Michael needed special support since hos teenage to heal all that shit from his father, as a therapist i see that he definetly was a victim from his own ghosts, without strength to leave the past and bring his self-confidence high. He was very talented and amazing human being. But like everyone here, he needed support, emotional, psichological. He needed to heal his wounds.
😥😥😥I wish 1993 never happen to Michael Jackson, I wish his public decline never happened way back in 1993, I wish 2002 never came along to put him in more trouble too. Michael Jackson made mistakes in his life, yes we know! Things won't always remain the same for him as to when he was from 6 years old up to 25! Those years were his active years in music and his time to dominate and shine, but as years went by, new artists and more musical culture and trends comes up! People began to jealous MJ because they knows he fits in all trends and he has got the money and the audience to listen to him. MJ was set up and killed! Period! Michael 's only mistake was to trust the wrong people who betrayed and stab him in the back! 😥 I love and miss him so much.
Too bad of you to say that! The press manipulated that picture, that's not the real picture of Michael, they use Photoshop to create a monster effect picture of him because they wants to ridicule him. God will judge and punish them all. They will all end up in brewing hell.
Even though 2009 looks like the last year to cover, Michael Jackson generates news even after 2009 and it is very interesting to cover. Some questions might be answered after 2009.
I’m a big fan of Michael but hanging his baby over a hotel balcony is something I’m gonna criticize him for. Regardless if he was holding him tight or not, I still don’t think that was a good idea.
Yeah it was a sad period from 2001 onwards. For some reason he seemed unable to properly animate and the hairstyle was absolutely atrocious. Some puzzling slip ups and mistakes caused by a dependence on medications really seemed to take him out of it. If anything he looked more "with it" in This Is It concert.
He was a joke at this point here in the US, it was sad for me because he was my idol in the early-mid 80s, it was really hard to believe that this was the same dude that everybody was in love with during the Thriller years.

Especially his eldest son who lived MJ‘s most tragic years consciously is an absolutely amazing and normal person to me.
spot on... he never really had a comeback by this time frame... it was just a waiting game.
The decline was there since the late 80s....
I doubt there's anyone on earth that would of dealt with even half of the things he did for as long as he did and come the other side
I'm gonna take a wild guess what the themes of the next years are gonna be-
2003 - Martin Bash*t documentary
2004 - beginning of trial charges, police raiding Neverland
2005 - Court trials Santa Barbara / escape to Bahrain
2006 - World Music Awards
2007 - Japan ?
2008 - Thriller 25. TMZ videos of him shopping with kids, bookstores, his house in Vegas
2009 - preparations for This It It, his death :(

The Greatest Musician and Entertainer Of All Time
Good on Michael for holding it down for Dick Clark & the American Music Awards.

Michael jackson was a great legend of music and there will never be another like him RIP king of pop 🕺❤️🌹🕶🎙👑🌟
As a fan i feel so bad for him so many people hated such a good man
As a long time fan (since late 80's) i have to say that things started to getting worse year after year, since late 2000's in above...
His family conducted an intervention this year but it didn’t help the situation
Michael's face when David and Liza kiss always gets me 🤣
You saw that too!
I honestly feel like he should've retired after he released History in 95'. And raised his family and stepped fully away from the fame.
A good point. I am sure he knew this too, but something or somebody didn't let him...this is my guess. Sony?
This is very sad and hard to watch. They destroyed such a talented, sweet, kind, dynamic and handsome man with all their words, rumors and jealously. All these people who ever did any harm to MJ will have their Karma served to them. God is watching. RIP MJ💔
My God... It's so sad to see how much of a wreck he was during this year! From one major embarrassment to the next. I know his drug addiction would have been the primary factor behind all of this. How was this not highlighted by the media at the time? So scary to watch all of this in hindsight.
It was tho! Alot of tabloids was talking and speculating about all the pills he was on and etc, they didnt shut up about it either
He looked horrible like a monster not human 🤣
I feel so bad for Michael for what he had to go through, he was the most sweetest, pure, angelic human being, but the world was so evil and they literally destroyed him, I’ll never forgive the people that done that to him, I hope he’s at peace with the angels and Jesus🥺🥺🥺🥺💞💞💞💞!!!!!

2002-2005 is going to be tough to watch
How about 2009. I am dreading it
I really wish his marriage to LMP worked out but I get why it didn't. There was definitely a significant downward spiral for MJ after their marriage ended but I think there is a good chance they could both still be with us if they stayed together.
I absolutely agree with you! They should have stayed together.
I feel this in my heart as well. Mike and Lisa may have been soul mates.
I like Lisa to b his wife too..they looked cute together, to be honest MJ had a wonderful life!
Jacko was a shit racist and abuser
MTV told Michael's team that he was going to be receiving an actual award. They lied.
Jesus how the media was eating this man up🤦🏽♂️

I love your year review videos🥹!! I hope you will make the next years till 2009 too
That's the plan!
Thank you SOOooo much, Detail, for this channel & everything you guys do. Are you gonna do the 70's too? Or just leave it at 80's-2009?

Why? I think because he obviously was black, loved and this is too much power especially political influences. Period!
