  • @dionj.pierre

Yup, I remember this era. It was when I first became conscious of how bizarre MJ seemed to so many people. As an eight year old it was difficult to reconcile the MJ I heard on my walkman and saw in music videos with the person he was described as being by the media and members of my community. It did for a moment seem like he would turn things around, and then the Bashir interview aired, after which it became wholly uncool to say that you were an MJ fan. As I remember, that didn’t change until Sony began promoting Thriller 25, which was when everyone my age discovered his music for the first time. Watching this reminded me of the extent to which his death rehabilitated his image.

Love mj, but this was definitely the year I think life got to him, never mind the allegations that came after this, just his life in general.
He was mentally suffering here, he’s more aware than any of us that he looks odd, because no matter what he wanted to look perfect. He wanted to be the perfect human, and his surgery decision as well as illness really got him looking alien, then the same time his reputation was alien, he had the history of NOBODY else at that moment. He was the most famous, most rewarded artist ever, but he wanted constant perfection. I stand by the fact this year shows how he is a product of being the most famous Pearson alive if not ever. Fame is scary
Mike was always positive and calm, kind and caring, even in the visible worst times he never lashed out, he said anything negative, he never got spotted boozing and on drugs in bars. He dealt with his problems while keeping a positive energy around him.

This was really hard to watch in real time when it was happening. My personal memories of the 2000s decade were great as it was the time that I went into my teen years but at the same time being a Michael Jackson fan was not easy. Especially for me as a super fan, it was really hard defending him to my friends at the time, especially the baby dangling incident. I kept telling them that he admitted he made a mistake and they were convinced that he was going crazy. When he won the award at the Billboard Music Awards, presented by Chris Tucker that December, I thought the new year would be better for him. I was sadly mistaken.

@@crazy4corbinbleux it was a mixed bag being a fan during this time when I was a young teenager. People still had genuine love for Michael but they were concerned with his then-current behavior. I became very popular singing and dancing to Michael’s music during this time to the point that my nickname was “The Michael Jackson Kid” growing up. I went on school tours around New York City and audiences would scream and give me standing ovations for replicating his performances in school talent shows, so clearly people, even young people still loved Michael Jackson. But when he would show up on the news, my classmates would ask how I felt about it and they would want me to defend or at least explain his behavior. my heart really hurts watching this as I love Michael so much. very tough year and the tabloids treated him is disgraceful, on the top of that battle was sunny and this fake award when Britney Spears was handling that to him. they arrange that just to making a fool of him and he thought it was serious. I hope that they’re already in hell. but little did you know that the worst is yet to come… and they were worried what kind of father he is we can see, his children comparing to some of their so-called stars are just gold. i’m so sorry Michael that you have to go through so much of this crap. I miss you so much every day but rest in heaven❤

Michael helped keep feeding them, and by the time he wanted to stop them, it was too late. I remember that Lisa Marie commented in the RS of the year 2003, that she surely must have told Michael at the time.
That year I noticed him different, not only in his appearance, but in his behavior... for the worse, unfortunately.
And nobody told him that at MTV he was going to receive only a symbolic award, for his birthday, instead of a real award? Those bizarre things, that only happened to him... but hey, he was surrounded by vultures and shit.

How did he looked like that? How was he white?” until not long after I learned more about Michael.
Also this is when MTV screwed Michael and when that man hating b🤬 Gloria Allretch threatens Michael to drag authorities to take his kids away and he told her (not personally) to “go to hell”.

Unfortunately, I also have all of newspapers from that year that have him on the cover when he had the bandage on his nose, him dangling Blanket over the balcony and taking Prince and Paris to the zoo with face masks on (people thought that Michael putting masks over his children’s faces was so weird, how ironic).

Those years were his active years in music and his time to dominate and shine, but as years went by, new artists and more musical culture and trends comes up! People began to jealous MJ because they knows he fits in all trends and he has got the money and the audience to listen to him. MJ was set up and killed! Period! The media didn't make MJ dangle his baby, they didn't make him dress his kids in these disguises that stick out like a sore thumb....or keep getting his nosejobs etc. MJ did that all on his own.
