Ha ha, I’ve just bought 50 baby snow gum just like your tree but I’m planting them to grow copies firewood so I’m delighted that they’ll grow large and quick. They won’t be anywhere near buildings though so thanks for the tips
I think it's crucial to do your research before choosing the Eucalyptus variety, and the location, before you plant them. Varieties such as Parvula, Pauriflora and Coccifera grow slowly to about 8-10m max they say, so are more suitable to the smaller garden, whereas the Dalrympleana, Globulus, Gunnii etc grow to massive heights, so need to be planted as a very safe distance from any structure, while taking the predominant wind/storm direction into consideration, in my opinion.
It’s crazy how fast these trees can grow I got a eucalyptus coolibah which is great for a desert and it was around 6 feet around 7 months ago and then when spring hit IT GREW AROUND 2 feet like that’s crazy so now in total it’s 8 feet tall walk, luckily I don’t plan on planting stuff under it and it’s far enough away from the house to not break my foundation love these tree they can get to 100 feet even in my desert climate
Yes, you are right. Extremely fast growth if in the right conditions and climate. I have had nitens grow over 6'ft in one season, very fast. I have tried Coolibah but not hardy enough for this climate
Yeah we have a tendency to think that eucalyptus won’t tolerate any cold, but if you have a look at the Tasmanian giants they’re exactly suited to a temperate rainforest climate so be careful, they can grow to gargantuan levels.
Yes, This seed for these came from Tasmania back in the day when I grew them from that seed. Nice hardy trees for this area of Canada. We on't experience extreme temps in winter so they do very well here
I have a Eucalyptus Nova-Angelica here in Cincinnati. If it survives the winter, which it very well could, I'll have to cut it down eventhough it'll pain me to do it. Its getting really big and planted right against the house.
Yes, hire my friend with his 80'ft bucket truck., We have had some towering ones cut down already. Cut them down in small pieces from the top down. I had one guy climb a big Euc here and cut it for me years ago. I have a video of it
Just read about a woman in NZ who’s lucky to be alive after a big eucalyptus fell over her house and pinned her in bed. I see lots of photos of them fallen after great winds and storms. Is a weeping willow safer? Ahh I’m in UK and moving to Shetland where it’s v windy and pretty cold too, please can you recommend me anything hardy? I’d love to make a geodesic dome and plant a tropical garden. I love moss, fern, i just discovered fern trees and they look tropical hehe 🙃 oh and I’d love to plant a cherry tree, can I plant a cherry tree together with a weeping willow? What’s another fast growing tree you’d recommend? I forgot to mention, there’s no trees on Shetland, which worries me slightly as I love them. I’ll have to make do with the ocean as I had to make compromises to afford a house, there’s a housing crisis here that’s by design...
I would space the Willow out from the herry tree because Weeping willow grow very wide. Yes, Eucs and break or uproot and we have all of our 100'ft ones cut down last Feb, but they have all sprouted back fast now I have to manage them for height. Try Coast Redwood trees they are hardy and love coastal conditions. Shetland Islands would be beautiful. Try Trachycarpus fortunei palms and Cordyline australis too. Cheers
@@BananaJSSI Thank you most kindly for the suggestions, will try them all, greatly appreciated! I will look those up, one of my favourite singers, Alan ‘Blind Owl’ Wilson loved the Redwood trees so I would love one, I’m guessing they’re not as big as the famous American Redwoods? I have come across the beautiful fern trees that supposedly tolerant winds so will definitely try them also. Good luck with managing the eucalyptuses (eucalypti?), they seem to grow with a vengeance! 🍒🌴🌱🌳🍁🌵
@@Ida-Adriana We actually heat our home with Eucalyptus firewood which burns very hot and is a nice hardwood. The California Coast Redwoods we grow here are the tallest conifers in the world when they reach maturity. We have the green and the blue form, quite nice trees. Cheers
I have a mountain gum 20 feet from the house which I plan to coppice once it reaches a certain height . Is it far enough from the house and will coppicing help control the roots?
Ours are less than that from our house and they do have big agressive root systems. Coppicing certaing controls top growth and also may slow down the roots too
Yes, it is a bummer but we don't want them to crash on the house of detroy the rest of our garden. I will plant more palms lol. We have tons of Eucalyptus trees all over our gardens

Good stuff. These Mountain Gum trees made great firewood, still burning it

True and we grow all of the ones you listed.

Be careful because when they get big the roots will crack that foundations, I have seen it on our island
Woah
Big trees very heavy
Useful info for me.
I live in England so mine should be OK for now ,it,s about 45ft.
Thanks
How do you cut them down without it falling across the garden? Do you have to hire someone to climb up it with a harness and cut it little at a time?

How tall would you venture my jounama will get in USDA zone 7b?
This far north they are good to 8a in a sheltered location and can freeze down in a northern 7b.. In the south a different story. May reach 20'ft tall
why are they so commonly grown for landscaping purposes in warmer parts of the world?
Ornamental beauty. They are very beautiful trees
Can you prune a eucalyptus tree Into a bush type tree?
Yes, coppice them to keep small
can you grow them from cuttings?
No, grow them from seed and my wife sells fresh Eucalyptus bunches of leaves in her road side farm stand.
It's a shame you got to cut those beauty's but safety first and your lucky not much damage happened only to your back lol
