    If the parents called “local police” to say their son was missing, that would have been Bethel Park police. Butler is 56 miles from Butler. Unless the parents said “Our son stole his father’s gun and said he’s going to the Trump rally”, why would cops 56 miles away be looking for him there?

      No one is claiming that this is what the Dad said, or even thought. The fact that he called police (or any emergency service) shows that he had urgent concern for his son. It isn’t normal for a Dad of an adult to call police if his whereabouts are unknown for a few hours. I don’t think anyone is making an excuse that the father must have known this was going to happen BUT ALL questions are valid at this point.

      His father knew he had the rifle, he said he was going to the shooting range. My guess would be that when he didn't return, they may have figured out that he wasn't at the range. I believe that his parents must have had some idea that there was a problem. Why would parents call the police to report him missing a few hours after the 20 YEAR OLD MAN(not a child in danger), didn't come home when he was expected. I have a gut feeling the parents were more aware of the threat than they are letting on.

      If he lives at home and is the only child or not, parents may have a rule that he let's them know where he is going, if he will be home for dinner, etc.. If he needed their permission to take the gun and they noticed it missing, that would cause concern. We do not know the parent/son dynamic. Possibly, he had some radical ideas that were mentioned in conversations with his parents.
      There are a number of reasons, as to why his parents were concerned to inform the police.

    Local PA cops are the worst.
    I was stopped and ticketed in a Trailer Trash town in the Poconos for going 5 mph over the limit on a deserted road at 11PM. I explained to the cop that I was from out of state and lost while trying to find the entrance to I84 and wasn't aware I was "speeding". He did not want to hear any of it.

      yesterday I saw a video (from a news source...not just a guy on YT) that said the kid borrowed his dad's AR. So, assuming that's true, I think that would explain why the parents called LE.

    Doesn't add up. Why would his father give him an AR15 rifle, when son requested it. To go practice at a shooting range. Speculate, father mentioned that warning to police. During phone call.
    Why weren't the police, F.B.I., Secret Service, on top of that major red flag. So many unanswered questions.
