That trick with making the center front box pleat meet has rocked my world! I have never been able to get mine to look right and have always wondered what I was doing wrong and now I am going to win the box pleat war!! YAY!! Thank you so much!!!
My mind just exploded when I finally understood how to attach the gathers without increasing the bulk of the skirt. Thank you very much, it was incredibly insightful and very well presented!!
Great, got my fabric, prewashed and dried...all I have to do now is cut the fabric and follow your instructions... Thanks for sharing your knowledge Nikki, highly appreciated!
Really incredibly useful! I've never seen anyone explain how to actually implement cartridge pleats into a skirt with additional, different pleats and show it so clearly at the same time. Thank you so much!
Thank you for this wonderful tutorial series Nikki! I'd love to see more - box pleats, hem facings, pleated gored skirts, pattern draping and drafting, cowl necklines, sleeves (especially sleeves with two or more parts). Thanks again, and Happy Holidays!
Juul Thijssen has a good video on various ways to hem a skirt if you need one now. A skirt made like the example in Nikki’s series would simply get a folded hem, since there aren’t any curves to worry about.
I thought I knew how to do these things. I have learned so much from you. I will watch any lesson you choose to share. Thank you, so very much for your clear, precise, skilled lessons. You are a super star!
Wow I totally had a misconception about the cartridge pleats. This blew my mind thank you. I love that there is always something new to learn in sewing.
Thank you So much for sharing your skill and knowledge. Those pleats are amazing. Thank you. I'll be coming back to these videos allot. - Cathy (&, accidently, Steve), Ottawa/Bytown/Pimisi
A very helpful series indeed. When you learn to sew yourself, sometimes there are small tricks and things to think about that you have completely missed, until explains all the small things. No matter how much I sew I find these in dept technique-videos really helpful!
Me: But that level of precision is SOOoooo... much work! More rational me: And doing it for the THIRD time, plus all the ripping out of mistakes, is easier? Is your skirt currently able to be worn without safety pins? I thought not. Subscribed so I can attempt doing it correctly and maybe get a finished wearable skirt.
Enough so that I think I can make a skirt like this on my own now, by referring back to the videos as I need them. Everything is explained very clearly, both the “how” and the “why”.
So wonderful and welldone little serie! So helpful! Thank you so much, I now have watched it twice, to really catch all the little things you do. My suggestion to another miniseries is neckband, and collar. How to think when measuring and sew it. And how big you are suppose to do them for the 1830ies, 1840ies, and so on.. Both a “laying down” collar and a “standing up”. I hope you understand what I mean by that..
I've done a few skirts with cartridge pleats, and after an incident where someone stepped on my hem, I will be knotting the thread at every cartridge pleat from now on, so that they don't all threaten to unravel after one pleat-thread snaps
So very helpful! Now I have a mighty need to make a pleated skirt of my own. Also I love the thumbnail you made for the video! It’s just *chef’s kiss*!!
Thank you for this wonderful tutorial! Now I’m a bit sad that this is only an example piece. But what an example piece it is!! Merry Christmas and a happy new year!I would love a tutorial on shirt collars. They still give me trouble😔
This reminds me of the time when I was still in uni earlier this year and our technician would explain sewing techniques in detail just like you're doing it here. Seeing this I can't help but think that one can really learn everything on RUclips, especially with how thorough you are 👍 Very well explained!
I have been having trouble with shirt cuffs. Both the button and french cuff styles. If you would be willing to make a video(s) on sleave cuffs I would very much appreciate it.

Oh - that is far too lovely to just be a sample - you've done most of the work for a full skirt! What an outstanding little series - thank you!
