Trans Mexican filmmakers made a parody on RUclips called "Johanne Sacreblu"; it has stereotyped French culture and bad French accents. In a way, it's as sincere as "Emilia Perez."
Where can I watch this?

Not JUST a bad musical about a trans Mexican cartel boss directed by a French person but one directed by someone who PROUDLY did not consult any trans or Mexican people, didn't cast any people from Mexico and shot the entire thing on a sound stage in Paris.
Oscar please~
theres plenty of trans people and actors that speak spanish. they had to cast the most insane pseudofascist spanish national bigot
Not true, there is a Mexican in the cast. She just couldn't sit at the cast table at the Golden Globes.
You miss the best part: shot the entire thing on a sound stage in Paris... because the idea he had in his mind of what Mexico is -- or the Mexico he wants for the film -- has nothing to do with the real Mexico.
And he said "Spanish is a language of modest countries, of developing countries, of the poor and migrants."
I bet the Mexican actress was deliberately excluded from the cast table.
Crazier is the fact that one of the lead actresses is racist too
It doesn’t help that one of the casted members shows a clear distain towards other cultures reminiscent of the director as shown by her many tweets.
This movie is such a nightmare that it literally ending with a “Bury your gays” moment is barely getting discussed.
Bury your happiness?

And don't they reveal immediately before that that Emilia married Selena Gomez when Selena was a teenager
@@octonine6212 It's a TV Trope where LGBT characters die in the end, so gays never get a happy ending
I think my favorite response to this movie is that a Mexican trans woman created a crowdfunded romance musical about badly-researched _French_ stereotypes falling in love, just because the French studio behind it did such a bad job of tackling Mexican social issues.
It’s called Johanne Sacrebleu if anyone wants to look it up!

Considering people hating on the movie was the first time I ever heard of it, I have to assume this was exactly what they were thinking
Still probably a better strategy would be to actually make a good movie, and get people talking about how good your movie is. So that people want to go watch it and you make money.
@ronnie926 That's only a good strategy if you think you can make a movie people will like. Making something bad or hated on purpose is easier
@@ronnie926 That takes effort. No real genuine effort has been put on Emilia.

I think I would like Emilia Perez if I also was a trans Mexican that used to run a drug cartel. They probably have a huge fanbase tbh
They really cornered that market
@fornana Marketing 101: Always make sure to pick the most specific target audience so you can completely conquer them. It's not always about money, sometimes it's about dominance.
@ I like to believe the conversation went like
Marking “You got to pick a specific niche when you make a movie”
Producers “Ok we made a musical about a Mexican trans former drug lord”
Marketing “too specific, way too specific!”
See, it also doesn’t even do _that_ right apparently, given the terrible lack of research on Mexico or trans people in general.
Or on drug cartels, I’d assume.
@@fornana the premise isn’t inherently bad, or at the very least having a bunch of specific details about the characters you can list like that certainly isn’t bad. They just did zero research on the relevant topics, didn’t involve those with relevant experience with the topics, and poorly executed the plans they’d managed to come up with.
Considering how the movie itself is already both incredibly racist and transphobic I'm surprised anyone cared about the lead actress being a racist.
Like she's in the racism movie why are people surprised.
They called Selena Gomez a rat. Only to work with her two years later
Because it's incredibly hypocritical for a movie that wants to come across as inclusive. You could say that the worst part was the hypocrisy
@@ALovelyLad she btw. any trans person doing something bad is not a reason to revoke said person's gender identity 😭 white women (cis or trans!) can do racist things too
I don't understand why they can never make a good representation of Mexico or Trans people, it always has to be something "exotic", and even the sex change song sounds like suspenseful, mysterious, weird music. We in Mexico are always "no man's land" or we still live in the old west, if there is any film of our pre-Hispanic cultures it's always "primitive", when their empires were super advanced and their capitals were beautiful, colorful. The same as our cities now, they are colorful, beautiful, not a yellow filter 💀

Sadly, many people will hear about this story and think this is a case of how DEI is ruining art. No. Not even close. A French guy making a movie about Mexican drug cartels with a trans person in it, while doing no research on Mexico or trans people, is NOT an example of how DEI is ruining anything. It is an example of lazy filmmaking.
Very lazy indeed, as well as, should i say ‘hyperconsumerised’. Studios are so desperate for a smash hit, they pack everything that they think will sell into one piece. And still have the nerve to plan for a sequel.
@@yolanda6392 agreed. In that sense, DEI here is probably being used as a marketing tool by a company that has no idea how DEI actually works. Either way, doesn't reflect the intention of real DEI.
@@ElGrandeFatsopeople blame everything on DEI a plane crash ? DEI FAULT!!! another plane crashed ? DEI FAULT AGAIN!!!
@@ElGrandeFatso I get that, but I don't think that is DEI. I mean, it is in the sense someone heard this has a trans person in it, so I'll vote for it/market it as such, but that isn't reflective of what a DEI policy is actually intended to do. And many people are smart enough to distinguish between the two, but many are not. The problem is that the ones who would use this an excuse to dismantle it entirely are more vocal.
